NKOTBSB Kicks Off Tour with a Medley Performance on 'Today' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 3rd 2011 1:25PM
NKOTBSB kick of their new tour with a performance on 'Today'It is a combination that would have made seventh grade girls around the country swoon in 1994, and then again in 1998. The New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys, now known as a NKOTBSB, officially start their tour tonight in Washington, D.C., but they gave fans a preview with a performance Friday morning on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC).

Starting with the cafeteria rallying cry of "oh oh oh oh oh" that kicks off 'The Right Stuff,' NKOTBSB performed a short medley that segued into the BSB classic 'Larger Than Life.' Nine now-fully grown boy band members singing, "Every time we're down, you can make it right, that makes you larger than life" gave the performance the feel of a mass therapy session/homecoming parade.

Jennifer Lopez, 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'A walk down memory lane turned into a scream of shock and anticipation for Jennifer Lopez on 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC). It started off innocently enough, with Jay Leno asking her about her big break into the world of professional dancing.

"I got a job working as a back-up dancer for New Kids on the Block," she said. "Dancing on the American Music Awards and it was a big deal."

That was back in 1991, "a long time ago," according to Lopez. "There's tape out there somewhere, for sure," she said of her performance.

That's when Leno announced, "In fact, we have it right here." And she screamed.

NKOTBSB Bring Their New Single to 'Dancing with the Stars' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 27th 2011 12:35AM
NKOTBSB, 'Dancing with the Stars'With their joint tour selling out across the nation, the supergroup NKOTBSB performed on the 'Dancing with the Stars' (Tue., 9PM ET on ABC) results show. The group was a perfect fit for the "Guilty Pleasures" theme of the week, comprised as it is of the members of New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys.

They performed a medley of two of their respective classic hits, and then broke into a new single, 'Don't Turn Out the Lights.' It will be featured on their compilation 'NKOTBSB' album coming out May 24, 2011, along with another new single and greatest hits from both groups.

With both bands known as much for their dance moves as their music, it was no surprise that they shared the dance floor with the 'DWTS' troupe throughout their performances. It was certainly a fun and memorable performance.

Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block Join Forces on '2010 AMAs' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Nov 22nd 2010 5:31AM
Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block Join Forces on '2010 AMAs' There was a bit of a time-warp on tonight's '2010 AMAs' (Sun., 8PM ET on ABC). In fact, if you fell asleep in front of the TV, then suddenly woke up, you could have been forgiven for thinking that you were dreaming ... that you were back in the year 1996 -- or even 1986.

The Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block appeared on tonight's American Music Awards. Yes, the two boy bands are "back." And though the Backstreet Boys never really left us -- continuing their career to the present day -- New Kids on the Block famously tried to re-brand themselves as "NKOTB," then gave up and broke up the band in 1995.

Now, the two former teeny-bopper groups are touring together, using the semi-unwieldy name of "NKOTBSB." Tonight's AMAs represented their coming-out party of sorts. Though the "Boys" were popular in the mid-'90s, and the "Kids" were all the rage in the mid-'80s, it's been a long time since they've had mainstream success.

New Kids on the Block talk Comeback on 'The Today Show' The New Kids on the Block are back! They appeared on 'The Today Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC) to talk about their career and comeback, noting that it wasn't all that hard to step away from the spotlight way back when. "We wanted to kind of get away from it," said Joey McIntyre. "It was so intense for four, five years when we were young kids, that it was just natural to go away and kind of say, 'alright, 'what do I want to do with my life?'"

VH1 brings back a good show this time: Behind the Music

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 19th 2009 3:00PM
Lil' WayneNormally you can expect VH1 to be renewing their horrible reality sexcapade competitions and other trashy shows, but suddenly there's a glimmer of hope on what was once an actual escape for the more mature music enthusiast. While it's only for 10 episodes or so for now, I'm still jazzed that VH1 is reviving Behind the Music at all. This was E!'s True Hollywood Story before True Hollywood Story. For me it generally didn't matter who they were spotlighting, all the stories were interesting. Of course, there'll always be a special place in my heart for the Milli Vanilli story. Heartbreak and more heartbreak!

You could call it a response to the success of the New Kids on the Block "Behind the Music" special this past fall. Honestly, I'm not even sure why the series was shelved in 2006. There are always new acts sprouting up and you'd think there would be plenty of fodder with the likes of The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and a new batch of American Idol wannabes each year. So far Lil' Wayne and Scott Weiland have signed on. I'm hoping for a Kanye West one narrated and written by West.
