'Food Network Star' Finalists Compete on 'Rachael Ray' (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 22nd 2011 6:15PM
The season seven finalists on 'Food Network Star' are used to competition, but they got a bit of a twist Friday on 'Rachael Ray' (weekdays, syndicated), when they had to cook for a live audience. The audience also got to ask questions, forcing the contestants to keep their composure and address the camera while cooking and thinking on their feet."We want them to be entertaining, we want them to teach us something," said judge Bobby Flay. "And I think that, Rachael, adding the idea that the audience can actually ask questions, it almost makes it like a live demonstration at a food festival."
'Food Network Star' Season 7 Premiere: First Eliminated Contestant Is... (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 6th 2011 4:23AM
For its seventh season, 'Food Network Star' (Sun., 9PM ET on Food) has dropped 'The Next' from its title and gained a permanent judge in Giada De Laurentiis, who served as a mentor last season.Fifteen hopefuls kicked off their dreams of getting their own show, including Jeff Mauro, who considers himself 'The King of Sandwiches,' and Vic 'Vegas' Moea, who already has the Hollywood name.
!!SPOILER ALERT!!
In taking a quick look down the list of contestants' current occupations, one seemed to stand out more directly than all the others. While there were a lot chefs and owners of restaurants, food and catering companies, there was one guy who's none of these things. He's a radio host.
The Next Iron Chef: Umami (Deliciousness) - open thread
by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 9th 2009 1:35PM
The only things I know about umami comes from those Kikkoman commecials, the ones that talk about umami being the fifth taste (after sweet, salty, sour, and bitter). Last night's Next Iron Chef was all about that, and they even had Iron Chef Morimoto as a judge. What did you think? The show is down to its final three contestants. Can you picture one of them standing next to other Iron Chefs like Morimoto, Flay, Cora, Batali, and Symon in Kitchen Stadium?

So we're down to two. One thing that I was wondering while watching this episode was ... is Emeril Lagasse even on Food Network anymore? I know there are repeats of his shows still running, but I wasn't aware that he was still doing new things (his show now airs on Fine Living).

The Next Food Network Star: Miami Up All Night - open thread

We're really down to the nitty-gritty on The Next Food Network Star. After tonight's elimination, we're down to four contestants, and just think: one of them is going to have their own show on Food Network. None of these people strike me as having the presence of a Guy Fieri, but he was raw once too so maybe one of these people will really shine in the next few weeks and the coming months.

The Next Food Network Star: Rachael Ray - open thread
by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 6th 2009 8:10AM
No, the next Food Network star isn't going to be Rachael Ray. She already has several shows on the network. "Rachael Ray" was the title of last night's episode, as the remaining contestants had to go on her show and do a team cooking presentation. Does someone know if this episode is going to air or will it air when new episodes of the show start up again? It would be weird for the episode to air after the winner of NFNS is crowned.

How could I just "forget" that Next Food Network Star was on last night? - open thread
by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 22nd 2009 5:28PM
The hell? I've been really enjoying Next Food Network Star so far this season, and was all set to watch it last night. And then I just completely forgot that it was on. I can't even remember what I was watching last night at that time. I think it was another Andy Griffith Show marathon. It was the episode where Barney misunderstood something and screwed everything up.So how was this "Dinner at Ina's" episode? This is going to be one of those times where I don't even read your comments until I watch the episode, which I'm going to do right now.
