'Kimmel': Are the Other 'X Factor' Judges Ganging Up on Simon Cowell? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 13th 2011 3:00AM
'The X Factor' judges, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'In the past two weeks, Simon Cowell has gone from three to one act on 'The X Factor.' In both instances, it came down to the women on the panel to decide. The first week, they eliminated Drew. This week, Nicole Scherzinger threw it to the public vote and Rachel Crow was out.

"Do you guys feel like you ganged up on Simon's contestants specifically because you wanted to win this competition?" Jimmy Kimmel asked the other three judges on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC). All of them, of course, vehemently denied it.

Could 'X Factor' Judges Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland Swap Shows?

by Laura Prudom, posted Nov 29th 2011 7:20AM
Nicole ScherzingerOn this side of the pond, 'X Factor' judge Nicole Scherzinger has become known for her questionable song choices, rambling critiques and the ability to make every comment she gives to contestants somehow relate to her own career.

Needless to say, there are some viewers who would be glad to see her gone from the judges' table.

According to British tabloid Now, they may soon get their wish, with rumors swirling that Simon Cowell is considering a job switch between Scherzinger and former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland. Rowland joined the judging panel on the UK version of the show this season, but audiences have failed to connect with her the way they embraced the exiled Cheryl Cole.

'The X Factor' Recap: The Judges Choose The Top 12 (VIDEO)

by Laura Prudom, posted Oct 26th 2011 3:00AM
X FactorThere were some controversial choices made during the judges' houses round of 'The X Factor,' but our mentors had the chance to right many wrongs with this week's live elimination show, as each category had to narrow their finalists down to three in order to proceed to America's vote next week.

Up until tonight, the groups seemed like the weakest category by a mile, but smart song choices and confident choreography helped Paula up the ante and raise her category to the standard of the soloists -- though I doubt even the smooth moves of the Stereo Hogzz can compete with the likes of Drew, Josh or Stacy.

Join us after the jump to find out who made it into the top 12 to compete for your votes next week.

Enrique Iglesias is Moved by Christa Collins on 'The X Factor' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 17th 2011 5:00AM
Enrique Iglesias & Nicole Scherzinger, 'The X Factor'It was the last of the Top 32 on a special Sunday edition of 'The X Factor' (Sun., 8PM ET on FOX) and it proved that this is going to be a brutal elimination for the judges. One thing 'The X Factor' has done for us is allow us to get to know each of these contestants personally and as performers, which makes these cuts as difficult for us to watch as it must have been for the judges to make.

Christa Collins seemed to connect with Enrique Iglesias, who was helping Nicole Scherzinger make decisions in the Over 30s category. But did she do enough to make it to the live shows? It's a particularly brutal category, and one Scherzinger agonized over as she sees this as a last shot for so many of them.

'The X Factor' Recap: Top 4 Performances From the Judges' Houses (Part 1)

by Laura Prudom, posted Oct 14th 2011 5:15AM
X Factor Judges['The X Factor - Season 1, Episode 7]

An audition round is an audition round, and Hollywood Week by any other name ("Boot Camp") would smell as sweet, but now we've reached the "Judges' House" portion of 'The X Factor,' and this is where the show should really start to differentiate itself from its rivals.

Did it succeed? Partially. Whether any of the judges actually occupy these lavish abodes is questionable (I'm especially suspicious of Cowell), but it was a refreshing change to actually see the entirety of the contestants' performances (aside from Over 30 waiter James Kenney, who, I guess, the producers deemed too boring). Seeing only two artists between every ad break got more than a little tedious, though, as did the constant recapping of last week's events. But aren't we all jealous of Steve Jones and his jetsetting job?

Hit the jump for our four favorite performances of the night -- we picked one from each category, just to be fair, though right now I think that L.A. Reid's boys should eliminate almost everyone else.

Simon Cowell Explains 'The X Factor' Tutor Phase (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 12th 2011 6:15PM
Now that 'The X Factor' has moved past its 'Idol'-inspired laugh-at-the-weird people stage, it's beginning its 'The Voice'-inspired mentor phase, where the contenders will be split into 4 groups, each to be tutored by one of the show's judges. On 'Good Day LA' (weekdays, 7AM PT on FOX) Cowell explained what the show is looking for in its champion.

"You've got to find somebody and you've gotta show how you can turn them into a real winner in the real world. Not within a competition, 'cuz someone's always going to win a show, somebody you can say ... we helped make this person into a star," he explained.

Did Stacy Francis Make it Through 'X Factor' Boot Camp? (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 7th 2011 7:15AM
Stacy FrancisIt's been a series of ups and downs for 'X Factor' contestant Stacy Francis. First, thanks to the lack of an age limit for contestants, the 42-year old was allowed to compete despite an almost crippling lack of self-esteem.

Then, the standing ovation for her knock-out audition was followed by judge Simon Cowell telling her to tone it down after her next performance. To cap it off, the day Francis arrived at boot camp she had received the devastating news that her father had died.

Last night she revealed that she'd missed her dad's funeral in order to stay in the competition. Was her sacrifice worth it?

'The X Factor' Judges Fight Over Contestant Tiah Tolliver

by Catherine Lawson, posted Sep 29th 2011 6:15AM
'The X Factor'As his fellow Brits would say, it was "handbags" time on 'The X Factor' last night as Simon Cowell lost his temper with his fellow judges.

Teenage singer Tiah Tolliver split the judging panel straight down the middle, with Cowell -- "I'm saying 'yes' a hundred percent" -- and L.A. Reid voting to put her through to the next round, and the female judges voting to send her home.

When Nicole Scherzinger said "I'll have to pass," the crowd started booing, and an irritated Cowell exclaimed "Oh, for god's sake!"

Paula Abdul's decision to say no was greeted with Cowell hurling a piece of paper to the floor and turning away in disgust.

The X Factor judgesThe first of this week's 'X Factor' episodes was a little lacking in actual talent, but it's reassuring to know that we only have to suffer through one more audition round before we can get to the good stuff.

(I wonder if all of the true stars are being left on the cutting room floor so that they can shine during Hollywood Week bootcamp instead?)

Though not every contestant can be like Chris Rene, there were still a few memorable performances this Wednesday night, so we waded through the filler to dig up the Top Five most memorable acts -- good and bad -- for our video highlights.

'The X Factor': Top 5 Memorable Performances from the Series Premiere

The X Factor judgesWhat you trippin' on, music fans? Did the first episode of 'The X Factor' make a believer out of you? After months (nay, years) of hype, the reality juggernaut finally rolled onto Fox last night with a whole host of talented -- and not so talented -- performers vying for at least three yeses from Simon Cowell and his fellow judges.

The good, the bad and the ugly were out in full force, but does this feel like 'Idol' redux, or will 'X Factor' be able to carve out its own niche in the crowded reality marketplace once we get down to the mentoring rounds? Only time will tell -- but in the meantime, we've assembled our top five most memorable performances, inspiring and horrifying, for your perusal within.

What's that? No, of course I'm not crying -- I've just got something in my eye ...

Stacy Francis Proves It's Never Too Late for Dreams on 'The X Factor' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 22nd 2011 12:00AM
Stacy Francis, 'The X Factor'Already an international sensation, Simon Cowell finally managed to bring 'The X Factor' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX) stateside, and while it's expected to get massive ratings for this premiere, featuring the returns of Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul together, along with L.A. Reid, Nicole Scherzinger and ever-so-briefly Cheryl Cole.

But as much as Cowell might wish it weren't so, it's about the contestants they manage to find. And while Chris Rene, who was 70 days sober and trying to turn his life around, blew everyone away with a heartfelt original performance, it was another contestant who perhaps best personified what makes 'The X Factor' different.

Simon Cowell Talks About Axing Cheryl Cole as 'The X Factor' Judge

by Catherine Lawson, posted Sep 21st 2011 10:15AM
Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, 'Piers Morgan Tonight'The excitement surrounding Simon Cowell's new reality talent show 'The X Factor' is reaching fever pitch ahead of tonight's premiere.

Over the summer there was much drama off-screen as judge Cheryl Cole was booted from the panel after auditions had got underway and was replaced by the show's original co-host, Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger.

Cowell and Scherzinger were guests on 'Piers Morgan Tonight' and he talked candidly about the reasons for Cole's departure: "I was talking to someone about this at the screening the other night and they put it very well -- she looked a bit bewildered."

Cowell -- who says he feels bad about the very public way in which Cole was fired -- added that "I took the view, along with a few other people, that she would have been more comfortable back in the UK."

He also opened up about his hopes for 'The X Factor' and whether it will take down 'American Idol.'

'The X Factor' Interviews: Simon, Paula, Nicole and Steve Talk Mentoring, Fights & 'The Voice'

by Laura Prudom, posted Sep 16th 2011 10:30AM
Next week, Simon Cowell will attempt to take over America using three little words: 'The X Factor' (premieres Wed., Sept. 21, 8PM ET on Fox).

Already a smash hit in the UK (where episodes have been known to capture over 60 percent of the country's audience in a single airing) and across the world, Cowell's answer to 'Idol' is certainly competing with its predecessor in terms of buzz right out of the gate, thanks in no small part to the promised reunion of Cowell and his former 'AI' sparring partner, Paula Abdul.

Following a preview of the first two episodes, AOL TV caught up with the two 'Idol' alums, plus fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger and charming 'X Factor' host Steve Jones, to get their take on auditioning in front of a live audience, the rivalries already forming between the judges and whether or not 'The Voice' stole their thunder.

Nicole Scherzinger's a Hit at 'The X Factor' Auditions

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 10th 2011 5:45AM
Nicole ScherzingerNewly appointed judge Nicole Scherzinger made her debut at 'The X Factor' auditions in Newark, New Jersey. And, according to Simon Cowell, "she was terrific."

It seems that Scherzinger has been hired to be the mean judge: Cowell introduced her to the crowd as "our own answer to Cruella de Vil," the villainous puppy-skinner from '101 Dalmatians.'

Scherzinger sidestepped questions about the controversy surrounding the exit of former judge Cheryl Cole from the show, telling 'The Daily Mirror' that "I haven't spoken to Cheryl but she is a lovely, talented, sweet girl. ... I don't know how it went down."

She added that "I found out at the same time as everyone else. I just turned up for work and I'm happy to be here. I just hope she has made the right decisions for her."
