2010 Daytime Emmys: We Predict the Nominees
by Allison Waldman, posted May 10th 2010 10:00AM
On Wednesday, nominations for the 37th Annual Daytime Emmys will be announced, and we here at TV Squad are placing early bets in all of the top categories. Will last year's winner, 'The Bold and the Beautiful,' triumph again? Will Peter Bergman ('The Young and the Restless') earn his 16th nomination? Read our fearless predictions below, and don't forget to tune in to CBS when the Daytime Emmys air live Sun., June 27 at 9PM.Outstanding Drama Series
'Days of Our Lives'
'The Bold and the Beautiful'
'General Hospital'
'The Young and the Restless'
The likeliest nomination here is 'General Hospital,' because it produced another terrific, big-event episode -- the hospital carnival, in which a car crashed through the crowd. It was an impressive and unique moment for daytime TV, so look for it to translate into a Drama Series nomination. Meanwhile, 'The Young and the Restless' offered up Colleen's death, which was moody and sad, and should be good enough to earn the seven-time champ a spot in the final four. 'Days' has been rising in Emmy estimation in the last few years, and is looking set for a nomination after the episode about Grace's death. And after last year's big win, expect 'Bold and the Beautiful' to round out the category.
Should 'Mad Men' Really Chase After More Emmy Noms?
by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 2nd 2010 11:02AM

Yesterday, Brad told you about how the 'Mad Men' powers that be are figuring out how to improve their chances at the Emmys. It was strange to think that a show as successful as 'Mad Men' was angling for a way to get more awards, but there is a reasoning behind the strategy. You see, even though 'Mad Men' has consistently been honored for the show and the writing and direction, the actors -- Jon Hamm, January Jones, Elisabeth Moss, John Slattery, Christina Hendricks, etc. -- have been shut out. That's irksome. Not one Emmy for acting. Plenty of nominations, but no wins.
DGA Announces TV Nominations
by Adam Keleman, posted Jan 8th 2010 4:05PM
Friday morning the Director's Guild of America announced their picks for the best directed cable and network TV shows in 2009.Among the list there were several surprises, including nominations for many newcomers to the '09 TV schedule, namely 'Modern Family' and 'Glee'. We're also glad to see many prominent critical faves like 'Mad Men' and 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' well-represented on the list again for stellar seasons.
NBC's quality comedy programming was clearly snubbed, though, taking home nilch for such Awards-show staples as '30 Rock' and 'The Office'; even a greatly improved 'Parks and Recreation' got no love.
After the jump you'll find the list of the TV DGA nominations.
The TV Squad Podcast: The Golden Globes, when to watch a show live, and more
by Joel Keller, posted Dec 21st 2009 6:09PM
It was a very loosey-goosey podcast this week, as Jason Hughes, Kona Gallagher and Danny Gallagher join me to talk about some of the goings on in TV:- We talk about what we usually watch this time of year, whether it's holiday specials or just catching up on shows via DVD,
- The Golden Globes nominations came out last week, and we talk about how they got things (mostly) right,
- Something Danny has some experience with: When should you make like it's the 1990s and actually watch a show in real time to ensure you don't get spoiled (like the Dexter finale)?
- Ask TV Squad, Comment of the Week, our picks of the week, and more!

As usual, the music at the beginning and end of the podcast is "Life" by Justin Trawick. Note that we recorded the podcast last week, so my pick of the week -- Cowboys vs. Saints -- has already happened.

Big Brother 11: Eviction #9, HoH #10

(S11E25) It's the end of the line for the two lovebirds of the Big Brother 11 season, Jordan and Jeff. With both of them sitting in the nomination chairs tonight, it's inevitable that one will go home. Kevin and Natalie hold the power in the house, and lone wolf Michele is but a lone vote. Kevin doesn't vote unless there's a tie.

(S11E23) You don't always see them wearing them, but three out of the final five hamsters in the Big Brother 11 house wear eyeglasses. It was four out of six wearing them before the Russell boot last week. Yes, Russell wore glasses. I recall him mentioning that they didn't want him to wear them in his diary room segments. Perhaps they didn't fit the persona of his brawny beastie-boy character the show wanted to portray.

(S11E21) My goodness, whatever could be making Natalie smile in the Big Brother 11 house? Could she have actually won a competition for the first time this season? Perhaps she's thinking of the Lydia/Jessie reunion in the jury house -- picturing scenes of Lydia scratching Jessie's eyes out or something. Maybe she's proud to be wearing a doo-rag which clashes with her shirt instead of her neatly color-coordinated um ... urban wear. Maybe she's thinking of adopting a pit bull so they can wear matching little outfits. Or maybe ...

(S11E20) After the recent excitement in the Big Brother 11 house, I'm spoiled. I want every episode to be a Chima meltdown. I want the producer's voice to come over the intercoms of the house and yell at bad hamsters. I want brouhahas and perhaps even fisticuffs. No, I don't anyone to get hurt -- I just want my excitement fix from the episodes. What did I get tonight?

(S11E19) Jordan's abbreviated head of household reign came to an end on tonight's Big Brother 11. Of course, it wasn't quite as abbreviated as Michele's run before her. However, this whole week has been all topsy-turvy in the house. Let's see ... this week was originally scheduled to be the fast forward double eviction week. Instead, Chima went all kinds of bonkers and got the boot from the producers, forcing the comps to go a bit awry, as well as the events of tonight's show.

(S11E18) If you're a Big Brother aficionado, this single episode is bound to be one of the biggest classics of the series. I'm talking absolutely brimming with moments which will be referred to for years to come. Remember the classic Dustin face upon eviction? This is better than that. Evel Dick dumping ice tea on Jen? Child's play, I say! For once, the television-show-only viewers get a taste of what the live-feed-watchers have seen this season. It's not pretty. It's actually a rather depressing look at humanity. But it's entertainment.

(S11E17) I think Michele's eyes are glazing over and she's put herself into a coma state as she listens to Chima rant on about Russell in the head of household room. You see, Chima isn't over her loss of power to Jeff's use of the coup d'etat in the Big Brother 11 eviction this past week. How dare Jeff change her nominations! How dare America screw her over by voting to give Jeff the power! How dare they evict Jessie (the man, the myth, the legend) instead of her choice of Russell, the terrorist. Mind you, those are her words ... not mine.
Big Brother 11: Breaking spoilers from inside the house
by Jackie Schnoop, posted Aug 15th 2009 12:33PM
Admit it. You don't want to wait until Sunday night ... or maybe even Tuesday night to hear about the big drama going on in the Big Brother 11 house. Sure, the real happenings in the house are usually a few days ahead of the actual airing of the shows.Yes, the nominations have already happened. But that's not even the major news of the day. I'm talking huge. I'm talking BB history annals big. I'm talking drama, I'm talking excitement. But, unless you want to know major spoilers, be warned that show-changing news is beyond the jump.
Big Brother 11: Nominations #4
by Jackie Schnoop, posted Aug 10th 2009 3:02AM

(S11E14) Well, the power was up for grabs in the Big Brother 11 house on Thursday, and Chima not only snagged it, but she's relishing it. I have a feeling she's not going to be happy relinquishing it when the time comes. She's Queen Bee! She's the woman with power! A woman should win this game! Unite, gals! Burn your bras; join the revolution. But will she go as far as losing Jessie as an ally? Read on.
Big Brother 11: Live Eviction #4, HoH #5
by Jackie Schnoop, posted Aug 7th 2009 12:52AM

(S11E13) After watching a man in a banana suit get evicted last week on Big Brother 11, it was a welcome sight to see Russell neatly dressed in a sport coat. But then there's Lydia. No, she wore neither a banana suit nor a sport coat. It wasn't what she was wearing at all. It was her face. For reasons known only to herself, she painted a black make-up stripe across her eyes. It was sort of raccoonish, quasi-Lone Ranger. It was just a tad odd, but Lydia isn't your normal gal next door anyway.
