Unauthorized Oprah Biographer Allegedly Shunned by Media (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 12th 2010 2:00PM
According to Kitty Kelley, author of an upcoming unauthorized biography on Oprah Winfrey, the media is afraid to interview her about the book lest they incur Winfrey's wrath and run afoul of the highly influential media mogul, she said on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC).

"Barbara Walters won't have me on her show, because she doesn't want to offend Oprah," Kelley said, adding that Larry King, Rachael Ray and Charlie Rose also refused to interview her. "Even David Letterman, who's had a 16-year feud with [Oprah], said, 'I don't really want to disrupt the relationship I now have with her.'"

Kitty Kelley Gets Talk Show Cold Shoulder for Oprah Bio

by Brad Trechak, posted Apr 12th 2010 10:30AM
Oprah: A BiographyShe has written about the Bush family, the Royals, the Reagans and the Kennedys. Now, Kitty Kelley's latest sensationalistic tome is about the Queen of Daytime Talk Shows, Oprah Winfrey. This time, she may have bitten off more than she can chew.

After all, when most writers come out with a new book to appeal to the gossipy crowd, they try to make an appearance on Oprah in order to promote it. In this case, it can be safely said that it won't happen. In fact, a myriad of other talk shows refuse to allow Kelley to appear and promote her latest work. Perhaps Kelley should stick to dead celebrities in the future to avoid retribution from the talk community?

Granted, Kitty Kelley is a big enough name that the book will likely sell even without the assistance of the talk show crowd. It could be argued that Oprah actually is helping sales simply by her name being on the cover.

When she wrote her Nancy Reagan biography, Kelley received anonymous death threats. Oprah's acolytes probably won't be as kind.

Oprah Unveils New OWN Lineup Featuring Shania Twain

by Scott Harris, posted Apr 8th 2010 1:00PM
Hot on the heels of today's news that Oprah Winfrey would be following up 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' with a new prime time series titled 'Oprah's Next Chapter' comes word of an entire new lineup of shows from the media powerhouse. And headlining the list? None other than country sensation Shania Twain.

According to a press release issued by OWN (The Oprah Winfrey Network), the network, which is scheduled to begin airing programming on Jan. 1, has lined up five new shows, including 'Why Not? With Shania Twain,' which will follow the country star's comeback attempt reality-show style.

That attempt is also apparently getting some more help from 'American Idol,' as TV Guide is reporting that the singer, who appeared as a guest judge during auditions earlier this season, will be returning to America's most popular TV show to mentor contestants in an upcoming episode.

After the Oprah-calypse: Who Can Fill Oprah's Seat?

by Stephanie Earp, posted Apr 6th 2010 11:58PM

Rumor has it that Rosie O'Donnell is being set up as Oprah's replacement when the Daytime Queen retires from her eponymous show in 2011. At least that's how the industry gossips put it. The truth is that while Rosie is planning a talk show to launch when the Oprah set goes dark, it's being produced by a different company and will probably run on cable, not on ABC.

But who can resist speculating about who could replace Oprah Winfrey? Since Oprah announced that her show would be ending its 25-year run, a short list of possible candidates has included Ellen DeGeneres, Rachael Ray, Martha Stewart, Sarah Palin, Tyra Banks and even Michelle Obama. But I think Oprah is irreplaceable. Sure, you could give another woman her time-slot, but in the world of daytime talk, time-slots are meaningless. You live or die on your own ability to capture the public imagination.

Tina Fey Grills Oprah Winfrey on Relationship With Jamie Foxx (VIDEO)

Oprah WinfreyTina Fey got to turn the tables on Oprah Winfrey and pressed the talk show queen about her relationship with Jamie Foxx.

Winfrey denied anything romantic, claiming the two were just friends, but Fey seemed skeptical. Winfrey sounded impressed with Fey's questioning -- and flirty footage. "That's good," Winfrey said with surprise. "That's a real question."

Rielle Hunter to Talk About "Johnny" Edwards on Oprah

by Brad Trechak, posted Apr 6th 2010 3:03PM
Rielle HunterLike so many other mistresses before her, Rielle Hunter will be appearing on a daytime talk show to discuss her side of the affair with former vice presidential candidate John Edwards. Wisely, Hunter decided to appear on the talk show of the Queen Mother of all the other talk shows: Oprah Winfrey.

Hunter has already had an interview with GQ Magazine that included some questionable photos that supposedly "had her in tears." Oprah managed to get the sought-after interview over other talk show hosts as Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters. It is said that John Edwards encouraged her to go on Oprah's show (but that's from the National Enquirer, so treat it with the journalistic respect it deserves).

The saga of a mistress in politics is old as the hills. Ask people like Gary Hart and Bill Clinton about the subject (all the aforementioned are Democrats, but a list of Republican affairs could be named just as easily). As Oprah continues to nab high-profile interviews like this one, daytime syndicated television is seeing just how tough things are going to be without her.

'Saturday Night Live' Doesn't Think Gabourey Sidibe Is Too Fat

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 1st 2010 8:02PM
Gabourey SidibeIt's interesting that in E! Online's announcement about 'Precious' star Gabourey Sidibe being asked to host an upcoming episode of 'Saturday Night Live,' their writer referenced a couple of disrespectful quotes Howard Stern had made about Sidibe in early March. Stern makes a living by saying things that push the envelope of good taste, but these words seem to have resonated a bit more than usual.

"There's the most enormous, fat black chick I've ever seen," he said. "She is enormous. Everyone's pretending she's a part of show business and she's never going to be in another movie." He even took on Oprah Winfrey, who's certainly no stranger to weight struggles or lasting success. "Oprah's another liar, a filthy liar. She's telling an enormous woman the size of a planet that she's going to have a career."
