Ken Jennings breaks down the Linus and Lucy Dance - VIDEO
by Joel Keller, posted Dec 13th 2006 7:44PM
You know, I'm really starting to appreciate how good a writer Ken Jennings is. Every time I go to his blog, he's been consistently sharp and funny (who knew Mormons could be that snarky?). Today, he has an especially good entry: he breaks down the dancing styles of everyone participating in the infamous "Linus and Lucy" dance from A Charlie Brown Christmas. Some of his pithier observations? "That "Frankenstein" is pretty lame, but the head-bob makes it semi-work," he writes of Shermy's dance. "Jumping Joseph on a pogo stick, is this a train wreck. Elbows flailing, wildly off the beat, staring at her feet in sheer panic, she looks like Benny at the L.A. Law Christmas party," he clucks about Violet. But he has nothing but praise for Linus: "Man, watch him stomp, even with the blanket limiting his mobility."
By the way, he mentions an old video that mashes together the "Linus and Lucy" dance with OutKast's monster hit "Hey Ya!" Since the video is fun and I'm in a good mood, I embedded it after the jump, just for poops and giggles.
Fantasia scores big name producers for second album
by Julia Ward, posted Nov 14th 2006 6:35PM
American Idol champ Fantasia Barrino is bringing out the big guns for her second album. The R&B vocalist's second outing will drop on December 12th, and this time she's bringing Missy Elliott, Outkast's Big Boi, Babyface and Swiss Beatz with her. The only big name producers she hasn't snagged are Timbaland, Kanye and The Neptunes, but give Miss Thing time.Fantasia seems to be pulling a Mary J. Blige on her second release - beefing up the hip-hop element and telling fans, "I've let go of things from the past and I'm having a good time. Now I'm on a whole different level." No more drama for Ms. Barrino, and man, did she know from drama. The High Point, NC native is a single mother who struggled with literacy problems and had her rags to riches stories made into a Lifetime original movie directed by Debbie "Fame" Allen.
Class of 3000 coming in November
by Adam Finley, posted Sep 28th 2006 7:58PM
Back in March I wrote about a new animated series from Andre Benjamin, a.k.a. "Andre 3000" of the band Outkast titled Class of 3000. The series, which debuts on Cartoon Network November 3 at 8 pm, is about a famous musician named Sunny Bridges (voiced by Benjamin) who sets everything aside to teach a group of music students in Atlanta. Benjamin will also serve as executive producer for the series, and will also write original music for it. Voice actors and comedians Tom Kenny and Phil LaMarr will also provide voices for the show, while Futurama and The Critic scribe Patric M. Verrone is attached to the project as head writer. You can also catch a half-hour mockumentary on the life of Sunny Bridges titled Sunny Bridges: From Bankhead to Buckhead on October 27 at 7 pm.Class of 3000 will rock
by Adam Finley, posted Mar 1st 2006 3:02PM
It won't debut until November, but the new cartoon from Andre 3000 (or Andre
Benjamin, if you prefer) sounds like it's going to be pretty cool. Benjamin, half of the band Outkast, says the new
Cartoon Network series will be a sort of combination of Peanuts and Fat Albert. The show, Class
of 3000, will center on a group of misfits who attend a music school. The character of Little D is based on
Benjamin as a youngster. Benjamin says the children will represent several different races, and that the soundtrack
will be decidedly more rockin' than typical Saturday morning fare. Keep an eye out for it, though I'm sure it'll be
mentioned here again before it debuts.
