'GMA' Examines New Trend, 'Owling' (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 15th 2011 12:30PM
Planking is officially so last week. The kids are no longer laying themselves flat, taking pictures of themselves in public places and posting them on the internet, according to 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM on ABC). Now they're squatting with their arms at their sides, taking pictures of themselves in public places, and posting them on the internet. The practice is imaginatively called "Owling.""I really think there are a lot of things everybody could be doing," said Josh Elliott. "Apparently it's sweeping the nation, and the studio here today." The camera then cut to different crew members and cameramen squatting in places slightly higher than where they would normally sit. Crazy stuff.
So what's the next noun plus gerund to become a big trend? Let's start it right here, people. How about "Standing?" Take pictures of yourself in a normal vertical stance at the post office, in the park, or even, if you're really nuts, at your office. Get posting. These trends don't start themselves.
