Ron Swanson's Facial Hair Takes Center Stage in 'Parks & Recreation' Season 4

by Chris Harnick, posted Jul 12th 2011 11:00AM
Ron Swanson, Parks and RecreationWhen Season 4 of 'Parks and Recreation' kicks off, expect a supporting player to shine: Ron Swanson's prodigious facial hair.

Yes, that epic and oh-so manly mustache will be featured prominently in the fourth season of the hit NBC comedy.

"The current plan is for Ron's facial hair to go through a lot of changes in the first few episodes," Mike Schur, 'Parks and Rec.' executive producer, told TV Guide. "He'll have several different looks in the first few episodes if things stay the way they're planned. Honestly, it wasn't our goal -- to send Ron's facial hair through its own arc -- but we pitched these stories for him involving Tammy 1 and all these other things and we found ourselves in this funny situation where a lot of the ways that we wanted to tell the story of what was happening to him involved his facial hair -- as it should, probably, when you have someone with facial hair as distinctive as Nick's."

Ben & Jerry's Responds to Fictional Ron Swanson Ice Cream Flavor

by Chris Harnick, posted Jun 26th 2011 9:00AM
Ron Swanson, Nick OffermanA cute fan-made image of a Ron Swanson-inspired Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor has been floating around the Internet for the last week, much to the delight of everybody here at AOL TV. But, things got real when Ben & Jerry's took note.

Taken from a line in a 'Parks and Recreation Season 3 episode where Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) demands all the bacon and eggs a diner has, the fictional ice cream is scotch-flavored and called "All the Bacon and Eggs You Have." Sounds ... perfect? Gross? Amazing? Too hard to say, really.

The fine folks and Ben & Jerry's took notice of the exceptional fan-crafted ice cream carton art and said this in a statement to NBC:

"We're thrilled that a passionate and dedicated Pawnee city government employee like Ron Swanson (who is a shotgun of humor to the funny bone) is getting his just desserts."

Amy Poehler, Lea Michele and More Comedy Actresses Dish Career Ups and Downs (VIDEO)

by Chris Harnick, posted Jun 15th 2011 5:45PM
Amy PoehlerWhat happens with you throw Amy Poehler, Jenna Fischer, Kaley Cuoco, Lea Michele, Julie Bowen and Teri Hatcher into a room together? Hilarity.

The aforementioned funny ladies gathered as part of The Hollywood Reporter's Emmy Roundtable series to discuss their big breaks, best moments and those bad jobs everybody in the industry seems to have had.

In the video, Poehler attributes the success of her transition from improv to 'Saturday Night Live' to her experience with the Upright Citizens Brigade.

"It's very difficult to comment on your own career," Poehler said, with the other women nodding in agreement. "It's very strange, you kind of want to leave it up to other people to dissect it."

'The Office' star Fischer wasn't shy about revealing details of her career. She admitted to working as a telephone psychic and spending three years working at a car wash.

Megan Mullally Talks 'Party Down' and Returning to 'Parks & Recreation'

by Kim Potts, posted Apr 22nd 2010 7:00PM
Yes, Jane Lynch has gone off to more 'Glee'-ful pastures, but thanks to new star Megan Mullally, the second season of Starz' buzzworthy comedy 'Party Down' (premieres April 23, 10PM ET), isn't missing a single drop of the funny.

Mullally, the two-time 'Will & Grace' Emmy winner, joins the Party Down catering crew -- as Lydia Dunfree, a recently-divorced mom who has moved to Los Angeles so her daughter, Escapade, can become the next big kid star. Yes, that's right, Escapade ... sounds like something Mullally's Karen Walker would name her kid.

And speaking of the scene-stealing 'Will & Grace' character, Mullally will also soon bring her iconic TV alter ego to theater stages. 'Karen: The Musical' is currently in development, and Mullally talked to AOL TV about Karen's return to pop culture (and the Karen spin-off series that could have been), her 'Party' days, her gig as the I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spokeswoman, guest-starring with hilarious hubby Nick Offerman on 'Parks and Recreation' and which 'Saturday Night Live' star she helped discover.

'Law & Order' Again? Here Are 10 Better Ideas for You, NBC

by Stephanie Earp, posted Apr 20th 2010 7:51PM

I remember when 'Law & Order: SVU' debuted, there were a lot of joking articles asking what would be next, 'Law & Order: Pet Detectives'? There were also questions about how many of these shows an audience could really take, and so on and so forth, with the same humor (if you can call it that) applied to the 'CSI' and 'NCIS' franchises as they came along.

Well guess what, people? 'Law & Order' is doing it again. NBC has greenlit a fourth version of 'L&O' -- set in L.A. -- for a fall debut. The original and 'SVU' are also looking good for renewals, while 'Criminal Intent' airs on cable network USA and on NBC.

My mind is boggled by this news. At this point, when I watch 'L&O' it has the same sort of nostalgic feeling I used to get from old episodes of 'Little House on the Prairie'.

Al Roker Gets Crude With Nick Offerman on 'Today' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 15th 2010 3:30PM
During an appearance on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC), Nick Offerman of 'Parks and Recreation' discussed his hobby of woodworking and a nude New York magazine photo spread in which he appeared with wife Megan Mullally. Seeing an opportunity for a double entendre, Al Roker then commented on Offerman's "wood." You can probably guess how things went from there.

"Just missed showing the wood," Roker said, after viewing the naked photo.

"I'm sorry," Ann Curry apologized. "The show was fine until that moment."

Aziz Ansari Will Host 2010 'MTV Movie Awards'

by Danny Gallagher, posted Mar 22nd 2010 7:04PM
Aziz AnsariOne of TV's rising stars is about to get a little bit higher (not that way, Cheech).

'Parks & Recreation' star and comedian Aziz Ansari will host the next 'MTV Movie Awards' broadcast, which will air live on June 6 from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif.

Some say it's the right choice at the right time since his comedy star is hotter than ever thanks to his primetime appearances and the buzz he has earned from his latest comedy special. I like to think it's MTV's way of apologizing for giving 'Human Giant' the run-around.

Andy Samberg Plays an Obnoxious Park Ranger on 'Parks and Recreation' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 18th 2010 11:37PM
Parks and Recreation, Andy SambergWe'd like to be Andy Samberg when we grow up. Not only does he get to do cool digital shorts like 'I'm on a Boat,' and 'D*ck in a Box,' but between his 'Saturday Night Live' gig and Lonely Island peeps, he's really well connected.

You can just tell his stint as an obnoxious park ranger on pal Amy Poehler's 'Parks and Recreation' (Thu., 8:30PM ET on NBC) must have been a blast. "Have you seen 'Avatar'?! I never saw 'Avatar'! I wanted to read the book first!"

30 RockNBC's Thursday-night comedy lineup will return for another season.

According to Variety, the network has just ordered new seasons of 'Community,' '30 Rock' and 'The Office'; the night's fourth comedy, 'Parks and Recreation,' was renewed in January.

In recent seasons, NBC has struggled to find a larger audience for its comedy bloc; this season, '30 Rock' has averaged somewhere around 6 million viewers, despite having won the Best Comedy Series Emmy three years in a row. 'Community' and 'Parks and Recreation' perform to even lower numbers -- typically around 5 million.
