Because Clooney can't do it alone: Margulies coming back to ER too

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 23rd 2009 8:50AM
Juliana MarguliesWow, just the other day we told you about George Clooney coming back to ER for an episode this final season, and now it has been confirmed that his on-screen wife is coming back to the show too.

Juliana Margulies, who played Nurse Carol Hathaway on the show before she and Clooney walked off into the sunset in a surprise scene in her last episode, has agreed to come back to the show too. She and Clooney are going to film their scenes later this week. Margulies joins Anthony Edwards, Laura Innes, Alex Kingston, Paul McCrane, Abraham Benrubi, who have already made return engagements this season, and Noah Wyle, William H. Macy, and Eriq LaSalle. who are still to come (Gloria Reuben made an appearance last season). You know who'd I'd like to see return to the show one last time? Sherry Stringfield. Susan Lewis was one of my favorite characters.

The last episode of the show airs April 2.

Four pairs of TV celebrities I always mix up

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 7th 2009 2:26PM
Paul McCrane and Dan Butler
Sarah Palin and Tina Fey aren't the only celebrities that people sometimes mix up. These two look a lot alike (more so when Fey has her hair a certain way, less so when she doesn't), but I often confuse two celebrities that don't even look alike in the slightest. Sometimes it's because they have similar names or have similar roles or a combination of both. Sometimes it's just because I don't see them that often and when one pops up I say to myself, "hey wait, is that _____ or _____?" Here's my list of eight people I often mix up. This must happen to you too, right?

1. Dan Butler and Paul McCrane. Both bald, both on hit NBC shows. Butler was horndog Bull on Frasier and McCrane was jerky, killed-by-copter Dr. Romano on ER. They really do look alike.

Juliana Margulies says N-O to ER

Awww, Juliana, you don't want to come back to County?

Seems like we've been hearing news about old ER members coming back to the show for its final season, and now comes word from Juliana Marguiles. The actress says that she won't be coming back to the show because she thinks that Carol Hathaway left on a good note and she really can't see how they could top it. A lot of fans would probably say they don't want them to top the character's last appearance, they just want to see the character one more time before the series fades off into the sunset.

Here's a sneak peek at tonight's ER with Anthony Edwards - VIDEO

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 13th 2008 10:00AM
Anthony EdwardsTonight's the night that thousands of fans of ER have been waiting for, the return of Jennifer Aniston! Oh wait, that's 30 Rock that she'll be on tonight. Never mind.

Actually, tonight is the night that Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards) returns to County to try to save the life of Dr. Banfield's sick son. As we told you last week, Greene isn't really alive and he's not a ghost. It seems that Dr. Banfield came to County with her son and husband, years before she became the new head of the ER, and Greene was the doctor who worked on her son. Her memory (and the flashbacks) are triggered by a current story where Banfield is trying to save the life of another child who comes to County.

Edwards isn't the only one who comes back. Since most of the episode takes place years ago, we also see Laura Innes as Dr. Weaver and Paul McCrane as Dr. Romano. Innes has a rather dramatic entrance in the clip after the jump!

Anthony Edwards to interact with Angela Bassett on ER (and he's not a ghost!)

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 4th 2008 1:29PM
Anthony EdwardsWhen the news came that ex-ER star Anthony Edwards was going to return to the show for an episode this last season, fans wondered how that could happen, since he died (and we mean really died, not soap opera died) of a brain tumor around 6 years ago. Would he be a ghost? A hallucination only a patient can see? Would he be Mark's long-lost twin brother (Matt, or maybe Monty) who comes to work at County because his brother worked there? The news that Dr. Mark Greene is going to interact somehow with new doctor Cate Banfield (Angela Bassett) just makes the scenario more confusing.

But now we have our answer. Edwards tells the AP that Mark will be shown via flashback in an ER story we haven't seen before.

Adding Bauer brother to 24 'too good to resist'

by Meredith O'Brien, posted Feb 9th 2007 4:04PM

Jack and Graem Bauer on 24The decision to give 24's Jack Bauer a brother seemed ridiculous at first, the show's executive producer told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

And the notion's absurdity was heightened when producer Howard Gordon suggested to the writing staff that the Bauer brother be the sinister Bluetooth dude who'd been seen in the previous season ordering the president to commit various crimes.

Turning Paul McCrane's character into a Bauer was "probably a crazy, terrible idea," Gordon told the newspaper, however the 24 staff "decided it was too good to resist."

24 producer "obsessive" over ratings

by Meredith O'Brien, posted Jan 25th 2007 3:24PM

Jack and Graham Bauer on 24At 7 o'clock in the morning the day after 24 airs, its executive producer Howard Gordon starts calling people to get the ratings about the previous evening's show. And he does so "obsessively," he told TV Week.

Gordon said that while he was concerned that Heroes -- which airs opposite 24 on Mondays at 9 -- would "take a bite" out of the 24 audience, he was pleased with how his show performed Monday. (Heroes narrowly beat 24.)

Gordon also told the magazine that fans shouldn't be surprised to learn that Jack Bauer has a brother, or for that matter, that the President Palmer II has a sister, because viewers have only known these characters for six days of the characters' lives, adding that he's had plenty of days where he hasn't talked to his own brother.
