Former 'American Idol' Contestants Have a Cook-Off on 'Rachael Ray' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted May 25th 2011 2:40PM
Stefano Langone, Paul McDonald, and Pia Toscano from 'American Idol' on 'Rachael Ray'Stefano Langone, Paul McDonald and Pia Toscano may not have won this season's 'American Idol,' but today they had a chance at a different prize. The three former 'Idol' contestants held a cook-off on 'Rachael Ray' (weekdays, syndicated) as part of the 'Rival Ray' segment. Toscano made a quesadilla she described as "the bomb," McDonald made a grilled cheese sandwich, and Langone a pasta dish.

Langone was particularly confident. "I hope that the judges have good taste buds," he said. "Because if they do, I'm taking the crown home." Toscano and her bomb were eliminated first; Langone and his pasta were indeed the last ones standing.

The win actually comes with a little gold statue. If you squint, it kind of looks like an Emmy. So Langone won bragging rights, especially if he has friends with poor vision.

TMZ Gives the Contestants a Crash Course in Being in the Spotlight on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

trip to TMZ, 'American Idol'In past seasons, the folks at 'TMZ' have followed around various 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX) contestants, keeping fans in the loop as to what they're doing now, and in some cases what they've done in the past. It hasn't always been good news.

This season, however, the Idols got a chance to get back at them a little when they went to TMZ's offices for "some serious media training," according to executive producer Harvey Levin.

There wasn't a lot of practical training, though. They advised Paul McDonald to use spit to style his hair if he ever gets arrested and suggested Haley Reinhart try to turn her lipstick-on-the-face incident into an endorsement.

'American Idol' airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8PM ET on FOX.

Paul McDonald Wasn't Blue About 'Folsom Prison' on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

Paul McDonald, 'American Idol'Paul McDonald smiles when he sings, and he brings an infectious groove to every track he lays down. On the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance episode of 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX), McDonald took a trip to 'Folsom Prison' courtesy of Johnny Cash, but he left the blues behind.

The song has been covered extensively over the years, but perhaps never with such an upbeat vibe as the one McDonald gave it. He picked up the tempo, sang joyfully and even gestured for the audience to get clapping.

Shooting a man in Reno just to watch him die is just a Sunday walk in the park, apparently.

Randy Jackson kept it simple. "I loved it!" he said. It was a fun interpretation that strangely worked, if you didn't listen too much to the lyrics. What did you think of McDonald's trip?

It's a Double Elimination on the 'American Idol' Results Show (VIDEO)

The Bottom Three, 'American Idol'There's something fishy going on this season on 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX). There's a pattern forming with these eliminations that could prove very disconcerting for certain remaining contestants.

As established last night, because of the Judges' save of Casey Abrams last week, not one but two contestants will get to see their video package as their time on 'Idol' comes to an end. The good news is, they'll both get to go on tour, but for now their time on the show is coming to an end.

It was a little strange that Ryan Seacrest still trimmed us to a Bottom 3. From there, he simply announced that one of them was safe and eliminated the other two at the same time. Which one is in 11th place, Ryan? Who got more votes, but still not enough?

Proving it still knows how to have fun, 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX) set up a special surprise for contestants James Durbin and Paul McDonald. After showing a clip of the two wrestling in the mansion, and Durbin's passionate talk about the sport, Ryan Seacrest set them up for the ultimate treat.

During the elimination, he positioned them on stage just so and then told them they weren't safe tonight. "I mean, you're really not safe," he said, stepping back as the doors opened behind the pair.

Standing there was Hulk Hogan, who came out with good news and bad news. Durbin was on his knees in shock and excitement at seeing one of his wrestling heroes in the flesh. To make the moment sweeter, Hogan revealed that both he and McDonald were safe. It was Seacrest, the Hulkster was after!
