'Parks and Recreation' - 'Summer Catalog' Recap

by Kona Gallagher, posted Mar 26th 2010 12:22AM
paul schneider(S02E20) Now that I know that Paul Schneider is leaving 'Parks and Recreation,' it's all I can think about any time he and Anne have scenes together. They're celebrating their six-month anniversary in a very low-key way, which is not unusual for them, but they're not exactly in the honeymoon phase, are they? Six months really isn't a long time to be together, yet the thrill seems to be gone.

When Mark and Anne were doing the photo shoot with Tom, his whole schtick of "make your face look better" initially seemed to be a joke about hot girls taking bad pictures (kind of the opposite of Barney's talent on this week's 'How I Met Your Mother'), but it soon seemed to turn into something else entirely. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it definitely seemed like Mark was concerned when he was looking at the pictures Tom took; like maybe he was realizing that the fact that Anne looks so miserable when they're pretending to be a family could be indicative of a much larger problem.

Natalie Morales Joining 'Parks and Recreation'

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 16th 2010 3:03PM
Natalie MoralesWe told you earlier today about Marsha Thomason returning to her role as Agent Diana Lancing on 'White Collar.' But where would that leave Natalie Morales, who took over for Thomason (in another role)? Creator Jeff Eastin mentioned the four movies that Morales has coming out this year, but would that mean she wouldn't have time for television too?

Actually, she has time for that too. Michael Ausiello reports that Morales will appear on 'Parks and Recreation' for several episodes. She'll play Lucy, who works at one of the local bars.

There seems to be more news coming from 'Parks and Recreation' than there does from the health care debate in Washington. Rob Lowe is joining the show! Adam Scott is joining the show! Paul Schneider is leaving the show! The news that Scott is not only joining 'Parks and Recreation' but leaving 'Party Down' is the biggest news to me. With Jane Lynch also off 'Party Down,' that show has suffered two big blows.

Paul Schneider Leaving 'Parks and Recreation'

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 13th 2010 2:44PM
Paul SchneiderThis is not going to sit well with a lot of 'Parks and Recreation' fans, but here goes: Paul Schneider is leaving the show.

Co-creator Mike Schur confirms to the LA Times that Schneider is indeed leaving the show. Seems it's a combination of things. The fact that Schneider's character wasn't supposed to be on the show in the same position (he was supposed to be a character that came and went, switching between various government and private sector jobs) and the fact that Schneider's film career is taking off. He's going to be missed. He was always sort of the Jim Halpert of the group.

There is a bit of good news in this bad news. Both Rob Lowe and Adam Scott are joining the show. That could make things interesting and even make the cast a little meatier. Of course, there's a bit of a bad-news-inside-this-good-news-inside-this-bad news: Adam Scott is also on 'Party Down,' a really good show on STARZ. I hope he can do both.

Review: 'Parks and Recreation'- 'Sweetums'

by Kona Gallagher, posted Feb 5th 2010 12:16AM
aubrey plaza(S02E15) I have no idea why, out of all the controversies in the world right now, that the folks at 'Parks and Recreation' decided to tackle corn syrup, but I loved it. This was actually a well-done episode about something that many people consider to be a problem: companies taking over vending machines in places like schools and other public places. Even though it actually had a bit of a message, it still managed to be hilarious.

Leslie is kind of everybody's mom: whether it's not letting Ron drink and drive (drinking and harp assembly is another matter entirely), or helping Anne educate Pawnee about the dangers of kids becoming fat, happy and docile by shoving high-fructose corn syrup bars into their gaping maws. She's just trying to make her little part of the world a better place, and it's endearing.

Sneak Peek: the season premiere of Parks and Recreation

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 8th 2009 11:33AM
I'll have to check some past episodes, but I think this is one of the first times if not the first time I've laughed out loud at something from Parks and Recreation. It features Amy Poehler turning something her boss says into a reason to sing an entire rap song.

I love how it goes on a little longer than you expect and gets a bit surreal. Making the coffee in the middle of it is a nice touch.

Parks & Recreation: Rock Show (season finale)

Parks and Recreation
Ah, so that's how they're going to do it. While the pit was still the underlying thrust of the episode, the stories were more about the characters and relationships. And realizing even more what a big dumb sap Mark is. It's really more a testament of Leslie's own insecurities and issues that she's so hung up on him because he is even more lame than Tom. At least Tom is charismatic and charming, in his own creepy way. Mark is just creepy, a lot older than he seems to think and kind of a doofus.

Parks & Recreation: The Banquet

Aziz Ansari of Parks and Recreation(S01E05) Man, Leslie Knope is a dope. But Tom is the bomb! Okay, I'm sorry. There's no excuse for that kind of crap. Still, though, Tom was hilarious in his speech to Leslie's mother, who will always be Jericho's Gail Green to me, at the banquet. Certainly it was smoother than Leslie's. But then Ron's speech of facts was better than Leslie's painful attempt at name-dropping.

It's amazing that Leslie and her mother are related, considering how vastly different they are. Her mother is shrewd and calculating, and clearly willing to muck around in the dirt to further her own agenda (i.e. a politician), while Leslie is an optimistic do-gooder who's more heart than smart ... oh crap, I did it again, didn't I?

Parks and Recreation: Boys' Club

Parks and Recreation(S01E04) Just when you start to think that virtually everyone around Leslie and Ann are depraved jackasses, you learn new things. We continued to expand our explorations of the cast this week. There appears to be more to Ron than he would have us believe. Sure, he wants to come across as this anti-government, gruff hardass, but there's a heart in there. And Ann's boyfriend Andy? Well, he absolutely blew me away this week.

There was a certain perception of Andy that had been developed over the past three weeks, and as a guy it was all too familiar. But tonight he showed another side of himself, and it was sweet to see that there's more to him than making a mess and making Ann do everything for him. He genuinely cares for her. And he really went out of his way to try and prove that.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's the return of Subtle Subtitles! If you haven't seen our game before, we give you a picture from a recent episode of a TV series, and you provide the funny caption! Our first photo is from last night's episode of Parks and Recreation. I haven't laughed at this show too much yet (sorry), so I'm sure you can come up with something even funnier than the episode for this picture of Leslie Knope pointing. We'll have a new one every Friday and announce the winner (and the new contest) the following Friday.
