More NBC Cancellations: 'Outsourced,' 'Perfect Couples,' 'Chase' & More

by Maggie Furlong, posted May 13th 2011 4:45PM
Outsourced is cancelledThe networks are cleaning house in preparation for next week's Upfronts presentations of new shows, cancelling existing shows faster than anyone can keep up.

The latest shows to get shut down? NBC has axed freshman Thursday night comedies 'Outsourced' and 'Perfect Couples,' as well as drama 'Chase' and reality series 'School Pride' and 'America's Next Great Restaurant.'

While rapid-fire press releases and rumor confirmations have been the norm for getting the news out the past few days, 'Outsourced' star Rizwan Manji actually took to Twitter before news of their cancellation broke:

@Riz_Manji: "Before it hits the trades-Outsourced isnt coming back.Sad to see it go-hopeful that this opportunity was a step towards others! Thanx all!"

Amy's Exes Make For Strange Best Friends on 'Perfect Couples' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 1st 2011 3:10AM
'Perfect Couples' - 'Perfect Exes''Perfect Couples' (Thu., 9:30PM ET on NBC) serves up the second of two final episodes before it's replaced by 'The Paul Reiser Show' on NBC's Thursday line-up. That will leave 'Couples' with two unaired episodes.

While the network has yet to officially say it's cancelling 'Couples,' this show of no-faith would seem to indicate the writing is on the wall. The ratings for this episode may tell the tale, though, as last week saw the series post its highest ratings since its second episode.

This week, Amy and Leigh concocted a ploy to help Vance get over his jealousy of Amy's ex-boyfriends by tricking all of them into going on a golf outing together. Via video, Leigh insists that they bond to defuse any tension among them.

'Perfect Couples': There Is Such a Thing as Too Much Sharing and Togetherness (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 18th 2011 12:00AM
'Perfect Couples' - 'Perfect Job'Marriage is a beautiful thing between two people. You learn to share your lives in almost every way. But almost is the key word, as exemplified by this week's episode of 'Perfect Couples' (Thu., 8:30PM ET on NBC).

As we saw in the opening sequence, which was basically a video short titled 'Something Just for Me,' there are boundaries that should be respected.

One boundary involves food sharing. We've all been there. One spouse decides to sample just a bite of the other spouse's dessert and the next thing you know it's gone.

Olivia Munn Gets Drunk Co-Hosting 'Today' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Mar 17th 2011 12:30PM
Olivia Munn Gets Drunk While Co-Hosting 'Today'What better place to honor St. Patrick's Day than the typically alcohol-drenched fourth hour of 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC)? Olivia Munn of 'Perfect Couples' celebrated the holiday with gusto as she co-hosted the morning program and drank nearly everything within reach.

Festivities apparently began early for Munn, who was filling in for Kathie Lee Gifford. The actress tweeted that she was "already feelin tipsy" before the show even began, and once the broadcast started, she continued to imbibe with wild abandon.

Dave Didn't Realize Julia was Drunk on Their Wedding Day on 'Perfect Couples' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jan 28th 2011 4:59AM
'Perfect Couples' - 'Perfect Proposal'Ah, your wedding day. One of the most stressful, crazy and memorable days of your entire life. Right? Well, maybe your recollection of that day is a bit tinted with those big old love-colored glasses you were wearing. Dave's apparently were on 'Perfect Couples' (Thu., 8:30PM on NBC).

In fact, it took Julia admitting that she was drunk throughout the entire day for him to take off the glasses and remember the day for what it truly was.

"You said you were stumbling with joy," he said.

"That's not a thing," she replied.

Olivia Munn Talks 'Perfect Couples' and Dishes Out Relationship Advice

by Kelly Woo, posted Jan 27th 2011 12:10PM
Olivia MunnOlivia Munn knows the secret to a blissful relationship:

"Money," she quipped. "Money makes the perfect couple."

The funny star stopped by our office to talk about the new NBC comedy 'Perfect Couples' (Thursdays, 8:30PM ET), in which she stars as Leigh, a perky, game-night lover who's in the "perfect relationship" with Rex (Hayes MacArthur).

Munn herself, though, is definitely not a "relationship expert" like Leigh. She cracked wise about her romantic life (or lack thereof), raved about her castmates and revealed whether she'll be staying on 'The Daily Show.' Watch the interview!

NBC Comedy Lineup Logs Solid Debut

by Jean Bentley, posted Jan 21st 2011 2:15PM
Parks and Recreation, NBC, comedyNBC aired its first Thursday night three-hour comedy block yesterday, but were viewers ready to laugh for that long?

Kinda, yeah. While nothing could slay the mighty beast that is 'American Idol' -- not even the ever-popular 'Big Bang Theory,' which was down a miniscule 5 percent -- NBC's newly rearranged schedule performed a-ok on its first night.

According to Entertainment Weekly, both 'Community' and 'The Office' scored season highs, and the third season premiere of 'Parks and Recreation' hit a series high. The debut of new sitcom 'Perfect Couples' scored 62 percent higher than its sneak peek last month.

Game Night Gets a Little Too Hot to Handle as Makeout Sessions Erupt on 'Perfect Couples' (VIDEO)

'Perfect Couples' - 'Pilot'While we don't think tonight's official premiere of 'Perfect Couples' (Thu., 8:30PM on NBC) is going to be featured on the next commercials for Hasbro's Family Game Night, it was an exercise in awkward couples' moments. When the three couples came together for a game night of their own, things quickly unraveled into chaos.

Vance got Amy to come to the festivities under false pretenses; he told her they were going to dances. But the couple they represent is the one that's hot and cold, and they quickly went from anger to passion.

"Let's get our grabby time on," Vance said before the pair started aggressively making out.

Comedy the Old-Fashioned Way: 'Hot in Cleveland,' 'Retired at 35' and 'Perfect Couples'

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jan 19th 2011 2:20PM
Sometimes it's hard to understand why a particular show is successful. That's not true in the case of 'Hot in Cleveland' (10PM ET Wednesday, TV Land).

There isn't anything edgy or innovative about 'Hot,' which exists to give the people what they want, which is Betty White saying naughty things and the rest of the cast delivering mainstream comedy aimed directly at Middle America.

And you know what? It works. I'm from Middle America and I laughed more than once at 'Hot in Cleveland.' The comedy is not what you'd call inspired, but it's less brassy and brittle than it was when it first arrived, and the show's cast knows exactly how to play this kind of cheerfully one-dimensional material.

Meet The Cast Of 'Perfect Couples' (VIDEOS)

by Ryan McKee, posted Jan 13th 2011 7:00PM

On Jan. 20, NBC is revamping its heralded "Must-See TV" Thursday nights with a new three-hour comedy block. Joining 'Community,' 'The Office,' '30 Rock' and 'Outsourced' will be the return of 'Parks and Recreation' and the brand-new show 'Perfect Couples.'

So far the new sitcom appears to be NBC's answer to their rival ABC's runaway success, 'Modern Family.' Both shows feature three different families of normal, yet surprisingly quirky, upper-middle-class characters; 'Perfect Couples' is simply the younger version. Whether the show is in reaction to the other or not, the three separate, interconnecting story lines do allow for a lot of quick jokes.

While 'Modern Family' introduced us to a number of new actors, the cast of six should be familiar to TV fans. David Walton, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Christine Woods, Kyle Bornheimer, Hayes MacArthur and Olivia Munn all have had their fair share of small screen time.

Discovering How Much Work It Takes to Be Perfect 10s on 'Perfect Couples' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 21st 2010 6:02AM
Christine Woods & Kyle Bornheimer, 'Perfect Couples'There comes a time in any relationship when both parties get comfortable. In the early days, she spends a lot of time on hair and makeup and picking out her cutest oufit, while he's bothering to shave and even making sure his shirts are free of wrinkles. But being perfect 10s is exhausting, and once you've scored true love, most of us don't really bother much with it any more.

On NBC's sneak preview of their forthcoming new Thursday night sitcom 'Perfect Couples' (Mon., 10PM on NBC), one of the three spotlighted couples realized their 10s potential, but also discovered it has its limits.

"It is really hard being a ten," Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) admits.

"I'll race you to a four," Julia (Christine Woods) countered.

NBC Extends 'The Sing-Off' Finale by a Half Hour: UPDATE

by Catherine Lawson, posted Dec 17th 2010 4:40AM
UPDATED 12/17/10: NBC has tweaked its scheduling plans for Monday. 'The Sing-Off' finale will now remain two-hours long, the 'Perfect Couples' preview episode will air at 10 PM ET, followed by a repeat of 'The Office.'

Capitalizing on the newfound success of 'The Sing-Off' executives at NBC have decided to add a half hour to the season finale next week and use the show as a launching pad for new comedy 'Perfect Couples'.

According to Variety, the mammoth two-and-a-half hour Season 2 finale will lead into a preview episode of 'Perfect Couples.' Instead of airing the pilot, NBC will instead show an episode that execs felt is one of its strongest.

'Perfect Couples' will then premiere in January as planned. NBC successfully used this teaser strategy back in the fall to launch new drama 'Outlaw.'

By extending the finale and pairing it with 'Perfect Couples,' NBC has canned a repeat of 'Chuck' that was due to air at 10PM ET. 'Chuck' reruns scheduled for Dec. 27 have also been preempted, this time by a repeat of 'A Walk in My Shoes.'
