Is the 'Persons Unknown' Finale the Worst Series Finale Ever? (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 30th 2010 1:15AM
Well, we were promised answers. And we didn't really get them. This was the two-hour season finale of 'Persons Unknown' (Sat., 9PM ET on NBC). Considering that the show has gotten incredibly low ratings, it seems highly doubtful that it will be back next year. Thus, this is essentially our series finale as well. So, were all the loose ends tied up?'Persons Unknown' Series Finale Recap

(Season 1, Episode 13 - 'Shadows in the Cave') Shortly before 'Persons Unknown' ended, I tweeted this:"Oh, for God's sake." #PersonsUnknown
NBC, I think, lied to us a little bit, didn't they? They promised us that "at the end of the summer, all of our questions will be answered," or something like that. But this wasn't a series-ender, it was a season-ender! Nothing really got resolved.
Sure, we got a lot of answers and we know what's going on, but this didn't end the story, it was actually the start of a potentially intriguing second season.
'Persons Unknown' - 'And Then There Was One' Recap

(Season 1, Episode 12) "Then what is the point of staying calm?" - Janet, after Joe told her to stay calm, they were coming to get themOK, there were a few things in this next-to-last episode that I just didn't buy, and I'm not talking about Ulrich's head exploding.
Many plot developments just didn't ring true and seemed a bit rushed. Ulrich saying he was going to go ahead with the experiment but then trying to help the group escape. Blackham getting beaten up near the vault and everyone immediately assuming he was killed even though the security video only showed him getting beaten up.

(Season 1, Episode 11) "The second town in as many weeks but I've exhausted all of my options. The pollution has become too thick to clear." - Madame DirectorIf you haven't heard, NBC isn't showing the next episode of 'Persons Unknown' on television. Instead, this Saturday we'll see the two-hour finale (actually two episodes back-to-back). What NBC has done is put this episode online only, so you get two reviews this week for the price of one.
And I guess the first thought I had while watching 'Seven Sacrifices' (full episode below) is this: why didn't Mark cover the severed thumbs with chocolate? (Now there's a sentence that won't make sense to anyone who doesn't watch this show...)

(Season 1, Episode 10) "There's no success or failure. Only results." - JoeBefore we get to this week's review, let me tell you about the next episode of 'Persons Unknown.'
There isn't going to be one.
Well, let me clarify, there isn't going to be one on television. NBC is doing something interesting -- and by "interesting," I mean stupid -- with the next episode ('Seven Sacrifices') of the show: they're putting it online this coming week and not on TV next Saturday. Why? Well, they want to end the show a week early, so they're putting the next episode online and then the two-hour series finale will air next Saturday.
On 'Persons Unknown,' Joe Dangles Janet Over the Edge (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 8th 2010 11:15PM
What would you do if your lover had his mind erased? And then what would you do if he flew into a murderous rage every time someone touched him? It would kind of mess up a relationship, right? This is the issue on 'Persons Unknown' (Sat., 8PM ET on NBC).
[Spoiler alert.]
During the latest episode, Joe (Jason Wiles) gets his mind "reprogrammed." Unfortunately, this has some serious side effects. Such as erasing his memory. ... And also making him psychotic whenever he comes in contact with another person.
Sadly, this doesn't work out too well for his blooming love affair with Janet (Daisy Betts). When Janet comes close to him, Joe grabs her and is about to toss her over the edge of a building. Not good. See? We told you that this whole thing could be problematic.
'Persons Unknown' - 'Static' Recap

(S01E09) OK, I've been wanting to say something the past week or two and I've been putting it off. I wanted to wait until the eighth or ninth episode to say something, and since this is episode nine, here goes:'Persons Unknown' is one of best shows of the year.
I know, I know, send me nasty comments below if you must. But I think that it's massively entertaining and really something different. I also think that it's a good lesson in how to do a limited, 13 episode series. It has a big plot and big ideas but it's actually a tightly written and produced show. I really like it.
The title of tonight's episode was wrong though.

(S01E08) Well, this was a weird episode. Not to say that the previous episodes of 'Persons Unknown' weren't weird, with their kidnappings and people trapped in a small town and observed by strangers, forced to eat Chinese food every night. But this was a dream episode, and those are always odd.
Of course, it's unclear what exactly was a dream, what was real, and what was Joe actually seeing Tom and walking around in a haze. I mean, look at the picture. The answer could be anything.
'Persons Unknown': "No One Ever Leaves the Program" (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 1st 2010 10:40PM
For weeks now, we've been searching for info about what has happened to our heroes on 'Persons Unknown' (Sat., 8PM ET on NBC). Now, we get another little piece of the puzzle.[Spoiler alert.]
During the episode, Joe Tucker (Jason Wiles) was zapped, tortured, and "reeducated" by "the Program"; the mysterious group who seems to be behind this whole abduction thing. Joe is the only current member of our group of good guys who is a confirmed double-agent -- he has worked for the Program.
On 'Persons Unknown,' the Conspiracy Goes Deeper Than We Thought (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 25th 2010 10:45PM
A group of strangers are held captive is a mysterious town -- a town from which there is no escape. Then, it turns out that one of the so-called "prisoners" is in on the whole deal. That's the story so far on 'Persons Unknown' (Sat., 8PM ET on NBC).[Spoiler alert.]
Joe Tucker (Jason Wiles) is a member of the organization that kidnapped our heroes and brought them to the town. Now, Joe wants out. However, getting out may not be so easy. In the course of the episode, we learn that the organization has existed for fifty years, and has kidnapped thousands of people.
Because of his rebellion, the organization decides to murder Joe. Tom (Reggie Lee) is sent to do the job.
Which is when Janet (Daisy Betts) shows up. Tom is holding Joe at gunpoint inside a restaurant. But Janet splashes a pot of hot fat all over the bad guy. Tom catches fire from the stove, and becomes engulfed in flames. Ouch! Not a good way to go.
'Persons Unknown' - 'Smoke and Steel' Recap
by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 25th 2010 5:35AM
(S01E07) Oooooooooo, now this conspiracy is a lot bigger than we thought. We're talking 'X-Files' territory here.I think we all guessed that it was some sort of secret experiment/test/plan/whatever, but I don't think we could have guessed that it has been going on for 50 years. So our kidnappees aren't just stuck in a small town for ransom, or because they were chosen at random for an experiment, they were chosen because each one of them could have great influence in the world.
Again: Oooooooooooooooooo.
'Persons Unknown' - 'The Truth' Recap
by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 17th 2010 11:00PM
(S01E06) OK, so I missed the first five minutes of tonight's episode (damn move to Saturdays!). Can one of you fine readers explain why the private eye was helping Mark and Kat get to the airport and get on a plane to Italy? Did he have a change of heart? Is there another motive for getting them there? Or am I misreading the scene entirely?Regardless, I can honestly say that this show is one of the short-run shows that I am completely hooked on. Where I got tired of shows like 'Happy Town' and 'Harper's Island,' I'm sticking with this all the way.
'Persons Unknown' - 'Incoming' Recap
by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 6th 2010 6:10AM
(S01E05) I know that 'Persons Unknown' has to answer a lot of questions rather quickly because it's a 13-episode summer series and not something that will last 120 episodes like 'Lost.' But I'm still rather impressed with the pace of the show and what it has revealed/hinted at so far. The characters have learned things, we know that someone is also watching events outside of the town, and we've even found out that at least one of the kidnappees is not what they seem, yet the show is still hiding the BIG who/what/where/why (and not in a frustrating way).
And tonight we found out that the people trapped in Mayberry 2.0 can die. ...
Who Is the New Girl on 'Persons Unknown'? (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 6th 2010 2:55AM
One girl leaves, but a new girl enters. That's what takes place on the new 'Persons Unknown' (Mon., 8PM ET on NBC).[Spoiler alert.]
On the previous episode of the show, spoiled rich girl Tori (Kate Lang Johnson) managed to escape from the inescapable town. But her flight didn't go so well for her -- because now her dead body is found floating in a pool. Not good.
Meanwhile, a new woman shows up in town -- wearing dead Tori's old clothes. Our heroes can only identify "Erika" (Kandyse McClure) by the tattoo on her arm which spells out her name. They can't get any other information out of her for a simple reason; when Erika arrives, she's in a coma. But then, the new girl wakes up -- and promptly starts kicking everyone's ass. Not in a psychological sense: Erika actually literally beats up everyone that she meets.
What is going on? Who is Erika? It might be good if we got some answers soon -- because 'Persons Unknown' is in imminent danger of being canceled.

(S01E04) "He's really a nice man if you don't get to know him." - Victoria, about her dadJoe is supposed to be the cool, fearless one of the 'Persons Unknown' group, but there's a fine line between fearless and stupid. So Janet finds some sort of Italian bee and plays with it in her hand, and when she lets it go Joe crushes it immediately with his boot because one sting and he's dead.
So why stand there and talk to a woman who is playing with a bee if they are literally deadly to you and you don't have a hospital or even an EpiPen on hand? Hell, if I was that allergic to bees I'd be inside the Chinese food place all the time, with a giant phone book next to me in case bees showed up.
