Rifftrax: The TV Squad Interview
The Rifftrax crew is about to embark on a massive effort to perform a live show in more than 400 theaters across the country. And, they'll do it all in one night.Mystery Science Theater 3000 alumni Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett have joined forces with Fathom Events to present Rifftrax Live: Plan 9 from Outer Space. On Aug. 20, Rifftrax will present an evening of live riffing, originating from Nashville, Tenn. and beaming into movie theaters nationwide at 8 PM ET, 7 PM CT, 6 PM MT, and a tape delayed 8 PM PT.
The trio will take on what some say is the worst film of all time, Plan 9. Of course, only people who haven't seen Manos: The Hands of Fate or anything directed by Coleman Francis would give Ed Wood's anti-classic that honor. But, Plan 9 offers the Rifftrax guys more than enough ammunition.
This is a great week to watch Turner Classic Movies

Of course, every week is a great week to watch Turner Classic Movies. If you're not a regular viewer of TCM, you're really missing out.
But looking over their schedule for tomorrow, I noticed several movies are playing that you really must see, especially if you haven't seen them before. In fact, two of the movies are ones I haven't seen before myself, though I've always wanted to. Many of these movies aren't shown on TV that often, and when they are it's only on TCM, another reason to watch the channel regularly.
Vampira dead at 86
A veteran horror star famous for playing the undead has passed on herself: Vampira (real name Maila Nurmi) died of natural causes yesterday. She was 86.
While Nurmi appeared in several movies, including The Beat Generation and The Big Operator, she is probably best known for the character of Vampira she created in the 1950s. She was the Elvira of her day, hosting a local show on KABC in Los Angeles where she introduced horror movies. She caught the eye of director Ed Wood, who cast her in the cult classic Plan 9 From Outer Space. She was played by Lisa Marie in the Tim Burton film Ed Wood in 1994.
I was just watching Plan 9 recently and on the DVD there's a great documentary that features an extensive interview with Nurmi and other stars from the movie.
