Harry Smith Moves from CBS to NBC, USA Fans Can Vote for 'White Collar' Credits and More TV News
by Jean Bentley, posted Jul 8th 2011 1:00PM
After 24 years at CBS News, Harry Smith is saying goodbye to the network.According to TV Guide, Smith is heading to rival broadcaster NBC to launch a new primetime newsmagazine with 'NBC Nightly News' anchor Brian Williams.
Smith began working at CBS in 1987, and most recently co-anchored 'The Early Show' and 'CBS This Morning.' He has also contributed to 'CBS Evening News' as a senior correspondent and substitute anchor.
In December, after CBS announced the changes to 'The Early Show' lineup, executive producer David Friedman said 'Early Show' newsreader Smith would "shift his focus to hard news with an expanded role as primary substitute anchor on 'The Evening News with Katie Couric,' 'Face the Nation' and 'Sunday Morning' while continuing to report major stories for all CBS News broadcasts."
Friedman said he decided to make such sweeping changes to the morning program after he "looked at many different aspects of the show and tried to figure out what needed to be changed," adding that "obviously if things were, quote unquote, working, we wouldn't make changes."

Scotty Tells Jackie People Don't Like Working With Her on 'Platinum Hit' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 21st 2011 2:27AM
Jackie Tohn had a tough week on 'Platinum Hit' (Mon., 10PM ET on Bravo), and it wasn't even from the competition. Rather, it was from Scotty Granger deciding to step up -- on behalf of everyone else -- and tell her that she's difficult to work with.He backtracked personally saying, "Scotty didn't say s*** about you. You should honor it that I am telling you what people are saying about you behind your back, whether they say it that they're saying it right now or not."
What a great way to stir up drama. Scotty could have been making that up, but he did it in such a way that Jackie immediately became convinced at least some of her fellow contestants don't like her, and the rest are looking at each other warily.

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 14th 2011 9:43AM
'Platinum Hit' (Mon., 10PM ET on Bravo) is not a dating show. It's actually a talent competition show for songwriters, but parts of last night's episode felt like 'The Bachelorette'.Jes Hudak is developing a major crush on fellow competitor Johnny Marnell: "He's really smart. He's really funny. And he's really cuuuuuute." But, Jes is also in this thing to win it, so feels like maybe she should try to ignore her feelings.
So will romance blossom when she goes over to his place? The beer and wine's flowing and Jes is in a flirty mood. She tries to explain why she's glad they're not writing together in this challenge when he hits the nail on the head: "You find it hard to concentrate around me."
Poor Jes is just so embarrassed and conflicted. "I'm really trying to ignore the feelings that I'm having for Johnny because I really just want to do this competition and I really just want to win, but ... maybe this is good ... I'm used to writing about my feelings."

It was 'Dance Floor Royalty' Week on 'Platinum Hit' (Mon., 10PM ET on Bravo) and so the legendary Donna Summer stopped by as guest judge. Some of the contestants were nervous about tackling songs with a dance hook, but 23 year-old telemarketer Nick Nittoli was real confident he would win the challenge.
When it came time for Donna to announce the results, she said she'd chosen the winning song because it stood out from the rest.
She told the nervous songwriters that she'd wanted to hear something new and original: "I've been in the business a long time ... [and] maybe you haven't, but I've heard it all before."
!!!SPOILER ALERT!!! As Donna said, "And the winner is ... " Nick was just sure she'd say his name.
'Platinum Hit' Songwriters Get Inspired by Los Angeles in Series Premiere (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted May 31st 2011 6:22AM
Kara DioGuardi and Jewel Kilcher kicked off their new songwriting series 'Platinum Hit' (Mon., 10PM ET on Bravo) by showing us how to make songwriting interesting. You do it by putting the contestants into groups and having them collaborate on new songs around a singular theme, in this case Los Angeles. This gave us four new songs to hear, and while they were all rough in places, you could definitely gain an appreciation for how difficult songwriting can be. Especially in a collaborative environment featuring people with such varied backgrounds and preferred genres.
In the end, Nick, Jes and Karen pulled out a victory with their song 'My City.' It was a little cheesy at times, but we enjoyed their story of someone linking the city with dreams of stardom. Its innocence was a lot of its charm.
