Tommy Chong to Huckabee: Weed Lies Like Yours Put Me in Jail (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 4th 2010 8:50PM
Tommy Chong Does His Best to Defend Weed on 'Huckabee'Things got a little feisty on 'The Huckabee Show' (weekdays, syndicated). Actor and comedian Tommy Chong was invited on the show to discuss marijuana legalization. Chong is best known for his pothead-based performances in the 'Up in Smoke' series of movies. So, it was understandable that he'd have a different point of view about "legalizing it," as compared to the conservative Mike Huckabee. But then, Chong started to get annoyed -- and that's when the anger, the interrupting, and the use of a curse word happened.

Tommy repeatedly accused Huckabee and fellow guest David Evans of lying about the effects of pot use. Eventually, Chong just got mad and started directly fighting with Huckabee.

"You're getting paid to say what you're sayin'," Chong said to Huckabee. " ... You get paid to recite all the lies."

Huckabee admitted to getting paid for his show, but denied that he was being paid to promote any particular point of view. Which was about the point at which Tommy Chong cursed at Mike. He called Huckabee a "mushroom farmer." "... You know what a mushroom farmer is? ... You keep em' in the dark, and you throw *BLEEPED* on them."

Danny DeVito Likes Drinking, Basketball ... and Pot (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jun 17th 2010 11:00PM
Danny DeVito Likes Drinking, Basketball ... and PotWhat do guys like? Well, according to actor Danny DeVito, they enjoy "basketball," "gore," they like to "drink a lot" -- and then they enjoy marijuana. Yeah. That sounds about right, more or less.

On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night' (Thu., 8PM ET on ABC), DeVito discusses these burning issues. He points out that in November, the state of California may end up legalizing "something." (Hint: it's pot.) And DeVito seems pretty excited by the possibility of this.

But host Jimmy Kimmel chooses to believe that Danny is excited by the possibility of legalizing gay marriage. So he gets down on one knee and proposes to DeVito. ... Oh, Jimmy. You and Danny DeVito -- it's just never going to happen. You're just going to have to deal with that fact and move on.

CNN: the most trusted name in news about weed

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 10th 2009 6:00PM
Here's a rather amusing clip from CNN. They were doing a story about Congressman Barney Frank's partner being arrested for having pot plants in his home a couple of years ago, and this leads to Wolf Blitzer saying he knows what marijuana smells like but not what it looks like. Lou Dobbs? He knows both.

Doug Benson on Super High Me and his battles with Ant

by Joel Keller, posted Apr 20th 2009 12:28PM
Doug BensonIf you tell Doug Benson that you loved him on VH1's I Love the XX's shows, he'll gladly accept the compliment, even though he's never appeared on any of them.

"When people say to me on the street, 'I Love the 90's!', I go, 'I do too!' I don't give them a lecture about how no, I'm on Best Week Ever," he told me a few weeks ago., "because it does all blend together. And as long as they're remembering me, and they have a positive attitude about it, you know, there's no reason for me to be a dick."

Benson's not just the "VH1 guy," though. The veteran stand-up reached the finals of season six of Last Comic Standing, after some notoriously unsuccessful attempts. He also made a documentary, Super High Me, which makes its TV debut today (4/20... get it?) on G4 at 10 PM ET. In the movie, Benson makes like Morgan Spurlock, but he substitutes pot for Quarter Pounders.

We talked about the movie, if the whole 420 thing is over, and his run-in with Ant on season five of Last Comic Standing.

MTV has second thoughts about weed joke - VIDEO

by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 2nd 2008 1:41PM

MTV logoThere's one thing to do a stupid joke that you shouldn't have done, and then it's another to not even have the balls to follow through on the joke.

Case in point: last night's MTV Movie Awards. Seth Rogan and James Franco presented the award for Best Summer Movie of the Year So Far, and while doing it, they did a little plug for their new movie Pineapple Express. They pulled out a bag of fake (?) weed and smoked (?) it onstage, explaining more than once that it was fake and that kids shouldn't smoke it. But take a look at the video after the jump below. As the joke starts, MTV's cameras pull away to a shot that seems to be taken from across the street. You can't even tell what Rogan and Franco are doing on stage, you can only hear them inhaling and introducing the nominees in the category.

David Faustino: Arrested ... with weed

by Bob Sassone, posted May 15th 2007 4:32PM

David FaustinoAl and Peg aren't going to be too happy about this.

David Faustino, aka Bud Bundy on the long-running FOX comedy Married...With Children, was arrested on Saturday night in Florida. Seems the actor was not only arguing with his ex-wife in the middle of an intersection - screaming obscenities, etc - but he was also "intoxicated." Not sure if that means booze or pot or both, but the police did find 20 grams of pot inside his pocket.

The Smoking Gun has the police report, and the mug shot (of course). Faustino looks rather stunned.

Modine joins cast of Weeds

by Adam Finley, posted May 8th 2007 1:20PM

matthew modineMatthew Modine will be joining the cast of the Showtime series Weeds when the program returns for its third season on August 13 (the second season ended last October). Modine will appear in ten episodes of the fifteen-episode season as Sullivan Groff, a land developer for a Christian mega-church.

I've been a fan of Modine since Full Metal Jacket, so it'll be nice to see him as a regular on Weeds. He's appeared on television before, most recently in The Bedford Diaries and in roles on The West Wing and Law & Order: SVU.

Zooey Deschanel and Carrie Fisher will also make cameo appearances in the third season.

Has Top Chef's Padma got the munchies?

by Julia Ward, posted Jan 27th 2007 1:04PM
Padma Lakshmi Salman RushdieMan, Top Chef has gained some serious momentum these past few weeks. The hazing incident, the tight-lipped complaints about Padma, the crappy, producer-driven elimination of Sam in favor of an Ilan vs. Marcel match-up. (Got spoilers? Oh, yeah, but don't click here unless you want to know who gets paprika-ed in the end.) Today's Top Chef bombshell - Padma's a pothead, and I'm not referring to her affinity for Le Creuset cookware. According to our friends over at Best Week Ever, Padma enjoys toking up on the set. Allegedly, this was a fairly regular occurrence.

Nicole Richie arrested for DUI

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 11th 2006 12:45PM

Nicole RichieAre headlines like that even surprising anymore?

The Simple Life's (emphasis on SIMPLE) Nicole Richie was arrested early this morning in Burbank, CA for going the wrong way on the 134 freeway. Witnesses called the police, and when police got to her car, she admitted she had taken Vicodin and smoked pot. But she wasn't drunk on booze, thank heavens, which means she's being responsible.

Two interesting aspects to this story: one, the police have told TMZ.com that they aren't going to release Richie's mug shot, which means it can't be added to the Hall of Fame. And two, the police report lists her height as 5 feet 1 inches and her weight as 85 pounds. Which basically means she weights nothing, and when she turns sideways she vanishes completely. She should join Heroes!

Update: the TMZ.com story has been updated with Richie's booking photo.

Iraq just experienced its bloodiest week since the beginning of the war. Matt Lauer says it's okay to call it a civil war now. We've been in Iraq longer than we fought in World War II. John Oliver is still awesome. That is all.

Reno 911!: The Investigation Continues (season finale)

by Adam Finley, posted Aug 28th 2006 10:24AM

reno 911(S04E07) After taking a week off for the William Shatner Roast, Reno 911! returns for the season finale, and we finally get to find out who it was that murdered Sheriff Chechekevitch with peanuts.

While the gang tries to figure out who did it, they also have to attend to the usually police business, which includes confronting a man at a carnival with a stage built into the front of his pants that hides what he refers to as an albino snake that "grows rigid in your grasp." Jones and Garcia can't see nor touch it though, because it's very sensitive to light and it's really more for women. The officers also answer a call from a pot dealer who's complaining about people trying to buy pot on a Sunday when he's closed. The officers threaten to arrest him for selling pot and the dealer threatens to arrest them for trespassing. When Garcia points out he can see the marijuana through the window, the dealer insists that's only ditch weed, and the good stuff is in the back with the cocaine.

Attention, stoners! The pot's not real -- VIDEO

by Anna Johns, posted Aug 22nd 2006 12:37PM
weeds; new zealand; security camera
The billboard advertisements for Showtime's Weeds are driving stoners crazy in New Zealand. The billboards are three dimensional, with giant bags of pot bulging off of them. New Zealanders keep stealing the "pot" from the billboards, so the advertising company set up security cameras to catch the thieves in the act. At least one stoner takes a tumble while trying to score some major weed. It's just the latest in Weeds' creative promotion campaigns that have included brownies, scratch-and-sniff pot fliers, and the tagline, "Putting herbs in the suburbs".

Weeds new ad strategy: scratch n' sniff pot flier

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Aug 12th 2006 12:36PM

WeedsYou smell that? It's called creativity.

In an effort to drum up even more "buzz" for the second season of Weeds (it premieres this Monday night), Showtime placed an ad in the August 24 issue of Rolling Stone. What a great idea. Advertisements! This ad was special though. Similar to the hundreds of fragrance ads offering whiffs of Paris Hilton's latest vomit inducing stench, the Weeds ad had a scent strip of it's own.

Guess what it smelled like?

I suppose all we have to do now is wait for the news to report on the idiot teenager who got a hold of four or five of the ads, rolled them up into a big fattie, and got sick from inhaling all the ink fumes. Oh and if you want to see what the ad looks like, I placed it after the jump. Just don't bother scratching your computer screen. I tried already.

Greg Brady, pot smoker - VIDEO

by Adam Finley, posted Aug 7th 2006 5:25PM

greg bradySome activities aren't hindered too much by a little pot smoking, such as performing dental surgery or piloting commercial aircraft. Trying to act on a popular sitcom when you're stoned, however? Well, that's just plain dangerous. Barry Williams, in his autobiography I Was a Teenage Greg, recalls a scene he did for the Brady Bunch during which he was extremely high. It's subtle, and if I didn't actually know he was high I don't know if I would have noticed anything that odd about his performance, but Destiny-land has some excerpts from Williams' book where he writes about making up dialogue, doing some of his own improvisations, and developing some kind of Zen connection with his bicycle. He does seem a little out of it, and watch how he trips over his bike pump as he walks over to the car. The video is after the jump:
