On the Set of 'Big Lake,' Comedy Central's New Show

by Chris Jordan, posted Aug 16th 2010 3:00PM
Big LakeThe bespectacled Chris Gethard is a ubiquitous presence on he set at Comedy Central's new comedy, 'Big Lake,' at Silvercup Studios in Queens, New York.

The star of the upcoming series, which debuts Tue., Aug. 17 at 10PM ET, has a tendency to wander around on dark sets or by the backstage lunch table, oblivious to everything except the script he's holding in his hands. He can be so focused on re-reading lines for upcoming scenes that you get the feeling he might walk into something.

"I'm just getting my lines down,'' said Gethard, a veteran of the city's Upright Citizens Brigade comedy troupe. "I have to memorize 90 pages a week and it really is overwhelming. It's not uncommon to see me wandering around mumbling to myself.''

It's OK as long as he's not mumbling on screen. It's been whirlwind for Gethard since he took over the main role on the Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy–produced comedy this spring for the suddenly departed Jon Heder. Noted comic writer Lew Morton ('Saturday Night Live,' 'Futurama') created 'Big Lake' and is writing, and 'Saturday Night Live' alums Horatio Sanz and Chris Parnell co-star.

The season will conclude on Sept. 15 with a two-hour finale immediately following the debut of 'Survivor: Nicaragua.' 'Party Down' - 'Jackal Onassis Backstage Party' Recap (Season Premiere)

(S2E01) Lydia: "Me and Escapade left him back in Wapato." Casey: "Escapade? That's your ... car?" Lydia: "My daughter, the future star."

It's hard watching 'Party Down' knowing that this show will likely not be back for a third season. But, set aside all the casting news -- virtually all of the cast is committed to new pilots and series star Adam Scott is going to 'Parks and Recreation' -- and 'Party Down' is just as enjoyable as it was last season. The writing remains sharp and quick, while the sardonic wit that makes this show so special continues to flourish.

The season 2 premiere finds the caterers backstage at a concert of the fictional rocker Jackal Onassis (Jimmi Simpson). Henry (Adam Scott) has been promoted to team leader and Ron (Ken Marino) is no longer with the team, but runs into them at the concert. Kyle (Ryan Hansen) and Roman (Martin Starr) are still there, not finding much success in their careers yet.

'Justified' Rocks Ratings with Premiere Episode

by Danny Gallagher, posted Mar 18th 2010 8:30PM
Timothy Olyphant of FX's The premiere episode of FX's 'Justified' was a lot of fun to watch and apparently, I wasn't the only one who thought so.

Tuesday's episode, titled "Fire in the Hole" after the Elmore Leonard novella upon which the series is based, scored 4.2 million sets of eyeballs, the network's second highest rating since the premiere of 'The Shield.'

Naturally, the show scored more older than younger viewers, but my gut tells me that could change once word spreads about the type of show it is and the quality it can produce. Sure it's a pseudo-western, but it has a very updated and edgy feel. It's fun for the whole family, if your family is one of those weird groups that lets their kids watch anything whether it's an edgy Western drama or late night Cinemax.
