Stewart Digs Up Footage of Paul Rudd's 'Daily' Visit in 1999 (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Dec 16th 2010 8:55AM
Paul Rudd, Jon Stewart in 1999 'Daily' EpisodePaul Rudd was Jon Stewart's first test guest when Stewart began hosting 'The Daily Show' (weeknights, 11PM ET on COM) back in January 1999. He showed Rudd a brief clip of the exchange they had nearly 12 years ago.

Rudd hadn't shaved; Stewart sported longer, shaggier hair that almost looked teased. And his suit-coat sleeves were way too long. "You look older in that clip. How is that possible?" remarked Stewart. "You look a little bit like Ducky from 'Pretty in Pink.'" said Rudd.

Stewart divulged that the suit belonged to Craig Kilborn, his 'Daily' predecessor. "It was incentive for me -- like, 'He'll get bigger if we put him in this.'"

Actor Jon Cryer Discusses Being a Straight 'Gay Icon''Two and a Half Men' star Jon Cryer appeared on 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 11PM ET on TBS), and talked about one of his most iconic roles, Duckie in 'Pretty in Pink.'

Just in time for the 25th anniversary of the classic 1980s film, Cryer tackled the issue of Duckie's sexuality.

Many viewers assumed Duckie was homosexual -- even co-star Molly Ringwald felt the same way about the character. However, Cryer set the record straight: he's not gay, and he never thought Duckie was.

Right now on Cinematical

The folks at our sister site Cinematical are working hard to give you news and reviews of the best -- and worst -- the silver screen has to offer. Here are some of their musings on the latest blockbusters, indies, and everything in between:

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates Pretty in Pink's ending. Cinematical discusses why it sucks so much and tries to right a wrong.
  • Have you been as confused about those "Clean Coal" commercials as I have? Apparently the Coen Brothers have, because they've directed a commercial for Clean Coal Air Freshener. It's as good of an idea as it sounds.
  • Does it seem quieter than usual today? It's because all of the tweens are at the movies checking out Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience. Is it any good? Does it really matter? Check out the review here.
  • Joss Whedon takes the time to discuss why DC Comics movies won't work. I wonder if he drops any insight into why Dollhouse isnt working either.
  • I had absolutely no idea that David Fincher directed music videos before he broke into movies. Cinematical Seven takes a look at other directors who followed the same path.

Emilio Estevez to visit bro Charlie on Two and a Half Men

by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 8th 2008 12:08PM
SheensWhen family members appear on each other's TV shows -- if they're a show biz family, of course -- sometimes the results are great. And sometimes they're not. Jerry Van Dyke appeared twice on The Dick Van Dyke Show as Rob's brother Stacey, and he was terrific. (Much better than he was on My Mother The Car).

Tyne Daly popped up on Wings, playing scenes with her brother Tim, and again, it worked out great. On the other hand, when Martin Sheen guested on Two and a Half Men in 2005, it was a dud. I don't know, maybe comedy really isn't Martin Sheen's forte.

Fortunately, Charlie Sheen isn't above trying again. Charlie's brother Emilio Estevez is going to do a guest turn on Two and a Half Men in an upcoming episode. They won't be playing brothers, but Emilio will be one of Charlie's best buddies from times gone by.

Psych: Murder? ...Anyone? ...Anyone? ...Bueller?

by Allison Waldman, posted Jul 26th 2008 10:02AM
Bueller Psych(S03E02) From the title, it was clear tonight's show was going to relate to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. In fact, in true Shawn and Gus fashion, the entire John Hughes' oeuvre was mined for comic gold, as Gus was hosting the 13th high school reunion -- that's right. Not 10, but 13 years. Ironically, in 1995 there was no John Hughes movie. Never mind, the references were more '80s than '90s anyway, including Milo and Otis, Karla DeVito, and all those Hughes movies.

Overall, there was something lacking tonight. The setting came first, Gus and Shawn's class reunion, then the case. It was like Murder She Wrote, where Jessica Fletcher just happens to stumble onto a murder wherever she is.

It seemed an awkward arrangement. The show is better when Shawn and Gus horn in on a Santa Barbara PD case.
