Tim Gunn Reveals Why He's Not Part of 'Project Runway All Stars'

by Crystal Bell, posted Dec 7th 2011 1:30PM
tim gunn project runway all starsWhen the cast of 'Project Runway All Stars' was announced, a few big names were surprisingly missing -- host and judge Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn, and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. Instead, supermodel Angela Lindvall will host the competition and Marie Claire editor-in-chief Joanna Coles will play mentor.

Fans have been wondering how 'Project Runway' can make it work without its big names. But now, we finally have an answer as to why Tim and co. didn't sign on for 'All Stars.'

"'Project Runway All Stars' overlapped with the taping of 'Project Runway' Season 9," Gunn told AOL TV, while promoting his partnership with Weight Watchers. "Someone actually thought that Heidi, Nina, Michael and I could run back-and-forth, from one place to the next, and I said, 'Look, I'm not speaking for Heidi or Michael or Nina because I can't. But I can speak for me. When I'm doing 'Project Runway,' I feel as though I'm overseeing an emergency room and that anything can happen. You want me to oversee two emergency rooms? That would put both shows at risk. That cannot happen."

The Judges Declare the Winner of 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 28th 2011 12:45AM
'Project Runway' finaleIt was down to four designers for the finale of 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime), and they had to impress four actual professionals on the dais, as costume designer L'Wren Scott joined the usual trio. This meant four expert opinions -- as opposed to three plus a token celebrity.

Once again, it looks like Anya is living by the motto: Why do now what you can put off until the last possible minute? And yet, she always manages to have something to show, and her looks usually go over well with the judges.

Heidi Klum Attacks and Mounts Michael Kors on 'After the Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 21st 2011 3:30AM
'After the Runway''After the Runway' (Thu., 10:30PM ET on Lifetime) takes you behind the scenes of the reality series 'Project Runway,' and this week featured the judges getting a little frisky. Well, one judge in particular, as Heidi Klum apparently gets all worked up with extra energy during downtime on the set.

So much so that at one point she chased Michael Kors around, eventually throwing him to the ground and mounting him as if she'd conquered him ... or perhaps had other intentions. For a moment there, we were wondering if we maybe shouldn't turn our heads and give the two of them some privacy.

'Project Runway'People who follow the fashion blogosphere may already know which contestants showed at New York's Fashion Week, but for 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime), this was the big reveal they and the contestants have been waiting for all season.

All four remaining finalists were working from their home environments, with check-ins by the always fashion-forward Tim Gunn, even though he doesn't seem to understand what scorching hot weather is!

Zoe Saldana Seems Right at Home Judging 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 14th 2011 6:00AM
Zoe Saldana, 'Project Runway'Zoe Saldana proved herself more than just a gimmicky celebrity as a guest judge for the final challenge on this week's 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime). She had astute criticisms that were both perfectly explained and completely justified.

If she wasn't doing pretty well with this whole acting thing, she'd certainly fit in quite well as a regular panelist on the show. She pulled no punches in cutting down the fashions she didn't like, helping push Kimberly and Laura into the bottom two.

Disaster as Kimberly Burns a Hole in Her Dress on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 7th 2011 3:15AM
'Project Runway'It was quite possibly one of the worst scenarios imaginable when, in a fit of frustration, Kimberly threw her dress down accidentally on a hot glue gun on 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime). The dress was ruined, leaving her no choice but to buckle down and start again, which she did.

Even more surprisingly, the dress impressed the judges, who not only applauded what she completed in only three hours, but ranked it among the top three styles of the challenge. Perhaps Tim Gunn should walk around with a hot glue gun and randomly destroy designs on a weekly basis to challenge the designers even more.

Heidi Klum Declares 'One of the Worst Outfits I Have Ever Seen' on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 30th 2011 6:00AM
'Project Runway'Josh got a definitive critique from Heidi Klum on 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime) for his '70s-themed look, but it's not the kind of words you want to hear, and he wasn't going to take them silently.

"This outfit is one of the worst outfits I have seen in a long time," she declared. "There are just so many things going on in this look, that it's just really sore to the eyes."

Josh defended the look, saying, "This could be on a runway and be sold right off of her."

Rashida Jones and Craig Ferguson Geek Out About 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

Rashida Jones, 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'Usually when you're watching a talk show interview, it feels like something designed either for our entertainment, or to plug a project. On rare occasions, though, it becomes a chat so intimate, you almost feel like a voyeur listening in. That's what happened with Rashida Jones on 'The Late Late Show' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS).

She and Craig Ferguson started talking about 'Project Runway,' which is clearly a show they both love and follow very closely. They started breaking down the challenge from last week -- too many beards -- and then started getting into it about how cool judge Michael Kors is.

Adam Lambert is the Guest Judge on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Sep 23rd 2011 8:00AM
Adam LambertThe designers faced a team challenge this week on 'Project Runway' (Thurs., 9PM ET on LIFE) and the theme was rock and roll music.

Each team had to design a look for an emerging band to wear on the cover of 'Rolling Stone.' The guest judge this week was 'American Idol' alum Adam Lambert, who knows his rock and his fashion, and who didn't pull any punches.

He slammed Anya's Hiawatha-esque creation: "This tunic is like an eight-grade production of 'Hair the Musical.' It just doesn't feel like fashion."

However, he did like the fit of Joshua's pants and the "sexy" zipper -- "It's like rock and roll. Totally."

Judges Like Color, But Nothing Else About 'Out' Style on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 16th 2011 4:00AM
'Project Runway'If you're a fashion designer, we suspect you wouldn't be too happy to hear a critique that says, "We like the pink color of your dress, but that's all." Nevertheless, that's what the eliminated designer heard this week on 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime).

The remaining contestants were tasked with designing for real women this week, though they were briefly psyched-out when they first saw the male counterparts for their real woman. They thought they were going to have to design for a man.

Joshua Targets Bert With His Drama on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 9th 2011 1:40AM
'Project Runway'Bert was the last one picked for a team on this week's 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime), but it wasn't Bert who created the most drama and shut down progress on a fairly regular basis. That said, he was involved, as Joshua had chosen the older contestant as the latest target of his pointless tirade.

Joshua's point of contention with Bert this week? "I feel people who have dirty mouths," Joshua said, "they're not intelligent." In frustration with the printer, Bert said, "So much for my f****** clocks." Ergo, Bert's an idiot.

Joshua even lashed out at Tim Gunn, and nobody yells at Tim Gunn. He's just far too polished for that.

Olivier Wants to Glue His Dress to the Model on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 2nd 2011 2:30AM
'Project Runway'We're certainly not designers, but even we could have guessed that gluing a dress to your model is never a good idea. Olivier was running out of time and was concerned the top of his dress would fall down, so he came up with this brilliant idea on 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime).

Luckily, Tim Gunn caught wind of it before he had completely slathered the model's chest with glue. He showed up to advise Olivier that this is clearly against the rules. The clothing must stay up of its own accord, which you would think is kind of obvious.

A Quitter, a Diva, and a Design-for-Heidi Challenge on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 26th 2011 2:03AM
'Project Runway' - 'Off the Track'Whatever happened to fun challenges? This week, they designers had to design for Heidi Klum on 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime), or more specifically for tennis shoes that she designed. $300, 24 hours and each team needs to come up with three looks.

We're not sure what running a track has to do with fashion design, but that was how team leaders were decided. Sure, the tennis shoe angle, but really?

Maybe it's because of how frantically you have to run around behind-the-scenes at a fashion show? Or maybe the producers just wanted to see some of these out-of-shape people run. Do you think they're getting bored?

Julie Unleashes a 'Droat' on the Judges of 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 19th 2011 5:34AM
'Project Runway'Designing a day-to-night look for Nina Garcia, fashion director for 'Hell' magazine, was the challenge presented to the contestants on 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime). And Garcia was on hand to give them lots of guidance and tell them that all their ideas were terrible. Should make for a fun episode, right?

In the end, simple was better, and shapely was far better than ... well, whatever it was that Julie came up with. 'Marie Claire' editor-in-chief Joanna Coles dubbed it a droat as it was best described as almost a dress and almost a coat, but not really the best of either. What it wasn't was liked by anyone, except for Julie.
