Dana Gould, one of my favorite stand-up comedians, is creating a series about zombies for Comedy Central?

I am so there.

The series, which has the working title of The Last Larry, focuses on a world destroyed by zombies, and the humans leftover who are trying to get on with their lives. Gould describes the series as a traditional sitcom that just happens to take place in the aftermath of a zombie holocaust, saying it's really about how people get on with their lives after something terrible happens.

Rumors are abound that former Miss USA Tara Conner may be hosting an updated version of Singled Out, the popular match-making game that aired on MTV in the '90s and was hosted by Jenny McCarthy and Chris Hardwick (Carmen Electra later took McCarthy's place on the series). The original series had a group of fifty men and fifty women who were slowly whittled down to one person based on the preferences of the contestant, who could not see the other players.

All we know right now is that Conner has been chosen for a new project at MTV. Whether or not it's an updated version of Singled Out is unknown.

Starting in 1913 and ending in 1967, Time Inc provided a series of newsreels to theaters called "The March of Time." The series chronicled significant world events using photos, filmed elements and dramatic reenactments. When theaters stopped showing newsreels in the early fifties, Time Inc continued to make new documentaries and news stories for television. In the end, "The March of Time" covered more than 70 million feet of film.

Thought Equity Motion and the HBO Archival Collection recently teamed up to make all of the footage from "The March of Time" series available online. Unfortunately, it's only available to media professionals, but you can see a "trailer" of sorts here. It's nice to see this footage maintained, rather than simply fading away in a vault somewhere, plus it's a reminder of a time not terribly long ago when going to the movies or watching TV was more of an event than it is today.

As a change of pace, I asked TV know-it-all Paul Goebel to write a rebuttal to today's review. Goebel is an actor and comedian who appeared as the "TV Geek" on the short-lived Comedy Central quiz show Beat the Geeks and has appeared on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Ally McBeal, Will and Grace and other shows. He currently hosts a show at the UCB Theater in Los Angeles, and does a weekly podcast with his pal Jim Bruce called "The Paul Goebel Show." If you like TV, you should check it out. Ever since Linda Lavin helmed the CBS Schoolbreak Special "Flour Babies" in 1990, the idea of students being assigned fake babies has been spoofed numerous times. The winner for best spoof goes to the Strangers with Candy episode "A Burden's Burden" in which Jerri and her classmates are assigned actually babies. There's also the South Park episode "Follow That Egg" that manages to tackle both gay marriage and child custody battles when the kids are given eggs and told to treat them like real babies.
