Andy Richter Nearing Deal to Host 'Pyramid' Reboot

by Allison Waldman, posted May 28th 2010 8:30AM
andy_richter_nbc_late_showAccording to the LA Times, funnyman Andy Richter is finalizing a deal to host an updated version of the classic game show 'Pyramid.' CBS is expected to slot the reboot in daytime, possibly in October after 'As the World Turns' ends its run.

This is the latest attempt by CBS to resurrect the long-running series. Two pilots were previously shot -- one with Dean McCain and another with Tim Vincent -- but failed to capture the spirit of the original series.

CBS also tried in vain to entice 'Deal or No Deal's' Howie Mandel, as well as Emmy-winning actor Brad Garrett.

CBS Replacing 'As the World Turns' With 'Pyramid'?

by Kim Potts, posted Apr 12th 2010 9:30AM
The Wayne Brady-hosted 'Let's Make a Deal' revival that replaced 'Guiding Light' has been a hit for CBS, and now, the network is cooking up another classic game show remake to replace another departing soap opera.

'As the World Turns' leaves the CBS daytime line-up in September after 54 years, and the network has ordered a pilot for a remake of 'Pyramid' as a possible replacement. 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' producer Michael Davies will produce the remake, based on the Dick Clark-hosted game show that first hit airwaves in 1973.

10 Greatest Game Show Hosts in History

by Leonard Jacobs, posted Dec 23rd 2009 10:00AM
Hosting a game show is something of an art. You've got to be amiable but authoritative, and you've got to make it look easy. You've got to look happy when a contestant walks away with thousands of dollars (or even millions, at this point) and you've got to look contrite when a contestant loses -- especially if due to a bad answer. You've got to project warmth, seem approachable and always appear ready for fun, even when enforcing the rules.

Since the first quiz shows of the late 1940s, through the infamous scandals of the 1950s, up until the present day of huge cash prizes, game-show hosting has been an amazing long-term gig for the people -- almost always men -- who get the job. Who, then, are the 10 greatest game-show hosts in history? Check out our after the jump.

Game show news: Pyramid, Let's Make A Deal, and ... GSN Radio?

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 31st 2009 3:30PM
Let's Make A DealI've been a strong believer in bringing game shows back to daytime television. If soap operas continue to die, I certainly want to see game shows in there instead of another daytime talk show about nuns who cheat on their transvestite cousins.

When it was announced that Guiding Light wouldn't be coming back, it was rumored that game shows might be taking its place on the CBS lineup. Now it looks like that's true.

Are more game shows headed to daytime? I hope so

by Danny Gallagher, posted Apr 7th 2009 12:02PM
Dick Clark, host of The $100,000 PyramidNow that Guiding Light is destined to become another sad memory of lonely housewives nationwide, CBS is hoping an old daytime tradition will pull them away from their housework.

And for those of you now engulfed in hate flame who've found the fuel to write some snide comment about my Mad Men-ish view of soap opera viewers and women, please calm the #*$& down. One, I realize this is not the 1950s and women don't all strive to stay at home barefoot and pregnant. And two, who the hell else watches soap operas? Only male hair salon stylists and hospital patients who don't have the physical ability or cognitive capacity to operate a bed remote.

I hope this means more game shows are on the way.

The Osmonds might reunite for TV special

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 24th 2007 10:33AM

Donny OsmondI don't think my older sister reads this blog, so I think I'm safe in announcing this to the entire world: she had crushes on several Osmonds in the 70s. And now, though she's happily married with children, she might get a chance to relive those days. "And they call it, puppy looooooo-oooove."

Donny Osmond has announced that five of the Osmond brothers - himself, Wayne, Jay, Merrill, and Jimmy - might reunite for a one-time only TV special. They haven't performed together in 25 years, though all of them, including sister Marie, still perform. Alan was diagnosed with MS several years ago.
