Flight of the Conchords revisit original radio show

Back in the day, before Flight of the Conchords' Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie became America's favorite Kiwi musician-comedians, they did a six-episode radio series for BBC Radio 2. The audio has been floating around YouTube for a while, pleasing the fans desperate to get as much folkin' action as possible. To make things a little more legit and extra-fun (thanks to bonus materials), BBC Audio is about to re-release a bigger CD set of the Flight of the Conchords radio show.
Dan Patrick brings radio to TV

If you like sports talk in the afternoon and get bored with the countless reruns of breaking news on ESPN's myriad channels, here's some good news. Dan Patrick is back on the air. In daytime, that is, and not on the worldwide leader in sports. Dan Patrick's radio show began simulcasting on DirecTV this week, bringing the entire DP team and their studio into view.
Broadcasting a radio show on TV is not new, of course. Don Imus did it for years on MSNBC until he put his foot so far in his mouth that he was kicked off the network. And Mike Francesca has a daily radio talk show airing on the Yes network. The idea of watching someone with a microphone in his face and earphones on is not radical.

It's the first Ultra Fantaboulous & Sexy TV Squad Talk Extravaganza & Happy (Half) Hour!
Once upon a time, Joel Keller and I attempted to do a weekly podcast called "TV Squad All Points Bulletin". It eventually faded away, mostly because neither of us had the time to do the editing and encoding anymore. This time we're going to try something a bit different, cutting out the editing phase altogether and allowing the listeners to participate.Tonight, for 30 minutes starting at 10PM Eastern, we'll be doing our first of what we hope to be a weekly, live "radio" show we're calling the Ultra Fantaboulous & Sexy TV Squad Talk Extravaganza & Happy Hour! (the exclamation point is necessary; the sexy, notsomuch) We'll have a post here at 9:45PM with the call-in number and an online player to listen in on the show. Plus, the show will be available as a downloadable podcast automatically when it's over.
Remember, check back on TV Squad at 9:45 for the show call-in number!
Comedy Central orders up Out of Bounds
Another State member makes good. Like Michael Ian Black, David Wain, Thomas Lennon and Michael Showalter before him, former sketch comedy troupe member Ken Marino has signed a pilot deal with Comedy Central.Marino, who has been guesting on Reno 911 and Veronica Mars as of late, has signed to create Out of Bounds, a behind-the-scenes workplace comedy. The setting - a Long Island sports radio show. Marino will portray one of the hosts of "Ball Talk" - a small market show with big time aspirations. The funny comes from the hosts' extreme publicity stunts and interviews between an in-character Marino and the not-in-character star athlete guests.
Adam Carolla vs Ann Coulter
Did any of our readers happen to catch this exchange (link to an MP3 file) between Adam Carolla and Ann Coulter on Carolla's radio show the other day? If we thought Ann Coulter was vicious, she may have met her match with Adam Carolla, who started their conversation by gently razing her for calling in an hour and a half late, and then hanging up on her after she tells him she's tight on time. He then tells his crew and the listening audience he "doesn't have time for bitches." Therein lies the difference between Adam Carolla and myself, because I always have time for bitches. According to The Great Society, Carolla offered an apology to Coulter the next day that really wasn't much of an apology. I don't have an audio link for that one, though.
Radio host fired over comments about Penn and Teller's Penn
I recently started listening to the podcast of Penn
Jillette's radio show. Jillette is the loud, boisterous half of comedy/magic team "Penn and
Teller," whose show Penn and Teller: Bullshit! is currently in its fourth season on
Showtime. At one point, Jillette suddenly went on a hilarious rant about one director's alleged
desire to have Paris Hilton play the
role of Mother Theresa in an upcoming movie. Ever the contrarian, Penn's rant was not against Hilton, it was
against Mother Theresa, whom he claimed did not actually help people get well, but merely set up places where people
came to die due to what Penn claimed was some kind of sick perversion on her part.
I almost blogged about this when I heard it, but I think I was distracted by a shiny object or something, because I forgot about it. However, the AP reports that another radio host didn't cotton to Penn's rant, and sarcastically offered to pay a listener $5,000 to kill Jillette. The host, John London, was fired for his comments, along with the show's producer, Denis Cruz, and Chris Townsend, a sports reporter.
