Fall TV's Biggest and Best Guest Stars

by AOL TV Staff, posted Sep 6th 2011 2:00PM
Ray Romano, Charisma Carpenter, Seth RogenWhile some shows have lured famous movie stars into leading roles, other shows are taking a more temporary approach this fall with big-name guest stars booked for short-term stints on the small screen.

Fall TV will host several major reunions that you definitely won't want to miss. Terry O'Quinn will head back to the island for a stint alongside former 'Lost' costar Daniel Dae Kim on 'Hawaii Five-0,' while Ray and Debra are back together (sort of) when Ray Romano stops by 'The Middle' to visit his former 'Everybody Loves Raymond' costar Patricia Heaton. And let's not forget 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' alums Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters playing a married couple on an episode of 'Supernatural' this season.

Wanna know who else is heading to TV this fall? Check out some more of the biggest and best guest stars, including 'The Wire' alum Michael K. Williams (Omar!), Oscar-nominated actress Patricia Clarkson and crooner Josh Groban in AOL TV's fall guest star gallery.

'Raising Hope' Season 2 Trailer: Baby Hope Is On the Loose (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Aug 28th 2011 10:00AM
'Raising Hope' has a lot going for it -- great cast, hilarious storylines and a seriously adorable baby. But baby Hope is growing up fast, and the Season 2 promo proves that she's now mobile enough to destroy a small city.

Raising Hope Season 2
I visited the 'Raising Hope' set last week to get some scoop on the new season, but was most excited to see how much Hope (a.k.a. twins Rylie and Baylie Cregut) had changed. Showrunner Greg Garcia says they'll be bridging the gap between seasons with some home video footage shot by the twins' parents over the show's summer hiatus. A little montage will run at the beginning of the season opener (premieres Tues., Sept. 20, 9:30PM ET on Fox) to catch us up.

But the show's first promo for Season 2 shows you everything you need to see: Hope is walking, cuter than ever and providing even more entertainment for dad Jimmy, pal Sabrina and the Chance family in a home video shoot of their own, inspired by Godzilla.

Watch the promo and tell us: Are you excited for 'Raising Hope' to return?

Dot-Marie Jones Will Roshambo for the Emmy (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 23rd 2011 4:30PM
Dot-Marie Jones on her 'Glee' Emmy nomination on 'Good Day LA'Dot-Marie Jones's Coach Beiste is perhaps the only person in the 'Glee' universe who could go toe-to-toe with Jane Lynch's Sue Sylvester. For that fortitude and charisma, she was rewarded with an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress.

Tuesday, 'Good Day LA' (weekdays, 9AM PT on FOX) anchor Tony McEwing got a glimpse of how intimidating Jones can be when he mispronounced her character's name (it's pronounced like "beast," but McEwing said "beasty").

McEwing immediately apologized, and asked her to be gentle. "I'm always gentle," she said, "for a minute." He also noticed she had a broken foot. "I broke a bone because somebody wasn't gentle, Tony," said Jones.

Martha Plimpton Details Cloris Leachman's 'Antics' on the 'Raising Hope' Set (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 19th 2011 2:40PM
Martha Plimpton of 'Raising Hope' on 'Access Hollywood Live'We learned a few things about Cloris Leachman from Martha Plimpton's appearance on 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC) Friday. She likes the liquor. She may lick you. And if she doesn't like your hair, she's not afraid to tell you. And Kit Hoover loved every bit of that. "I want to hang with her," said Hoover. "I want to go out for cocktails with her."

Plimpton said cocktails would be a good idea -- Bloody Marys in the morning and something with vodka in it for later in the day. Hoover asked about Leachman's "antics" on the 'Raising Hope' set. "It's just never ending," said Plimpton. "She likes to lick people. She loves to lick our director's head."

Cloris Leachman Talks Emmys, 'Raising Hope' on 'The View' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 22nd 2011 5:30PM
Cloris Leachman talks 'Raising Hope' and Emmys on 'The View'Cloris Leachman is the undisputed queen of the Emmys. She's already won eight prime time Emmys and one daytime Emmy, and her nomination in the "guest star" category for 'Raising Hope' brings the comedienne's career nomination total to 22. If she wins, ten Emmys would give her more than any other performer. The idea agrees with her, she said Friday on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC).

How would winning a tenth Emmy make her feel? "Powerful, I like it," said Leachman, flexing her muscles for the camera. Sherri Shepherd introduced a 1973 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' clip of Leachman playing landlord Phyllis Lindtrom that won her an Emmy in 1973.

In the clip, she detailed the mating habits of bees, where the female is the queen and the male is the slave who dies after mating. "All in all, not a bad system," she said. A little more coherent than Leachman's 'Raising Hope' character, but probably not too far off in philosophy.

Cloris Leachman Gets 'Raising Hope' Promotion

by Chris Harnick, posted Jun 1st 2011 11:30AM
Cloris LeachmanWhen 'Raising Hope' returns this fall, the show will have a brand new series regular: Cloris Leachman.

Yep, the veteran sitcom star has been upped from "special guest star" to series regular after a season.

When the show returns, look for them to have fun with Leachman in the title credits. Instead of a typical credit of "and Cloris Leachman," her credit will read "and introducing Cloris Leachman as Maw Maw."

"I thought it would be funny to make it 'introducing Cloris Leachman,' and she thought it was hilarious," series creator Greg Garcia told TV Guide.

Leachman's schedule kept her as a "special guest star" during the first season, but now everything has fallen into place for season 2.

Jimmy's Awkward Teen Phase Terrified His Parents on 'Raising Hope' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 18th 2011 2:20AM
'Raising Hope' season finale - 'Don't Vote for This Episode'Most teenagers go through phases where they're almost impossible to relate to, but Jimmy took it to a whole new level on the season premiere of 'Raising Hope' (Tue., 9PM ET on FOX). In a flashback to Jimmy's 18th birthday, we discovered that his parents were terrified of him.

For a family as poor as this one has been presented, we're not sure how Jimmy came up with enough money to get his black outlandish clothing and face make-up, but we can't deny how hilarious it was when they finally revealed his face as he shouted to Burt, "GET OUT!"

Greg Garcia on the 'Raising Hope' Season Finale & Cloris Leachman's Freakish Strength

by Joel Keller, posted May 16th 2011 4:00PM
Between seasons of a television show, most showrunners talk about breaking stories for the following season. Some talk about going on a much-needed vacation. Greg Garcia of 'Raising Hope' does something a little different: He runs contests on his Twitter feed.

'Raising Hope' - 'Don't Vote for This Episode'
"I'd done a little bit of the Twittering there once we stopped shooting because I thought well, I'm bored, I'll do it," he told me last week. "I was at a gas station and there was a pay phone, and I thought, well this'll be funny. So I tweeted, 'the first person to call this phone number gets $100.' And immediately, a guy from New Jersey called, and I sent him two fifties in the mail. So I've just been doing it for the last couple weeks. And it's been fun."

It's easy to be relaxed when your show gets an early renewal from your network; of all of FOX's freshman live-action comedies, 'Hope' was the only one to survive to its sophomore year, and will be airing at 9:30PM on Tuesdays starting in the fall. I spoke to Garcia about the season finale (Tues., May 17, 9PM ET on Fox), the challenges of the first season and why it's not wise to run away from Cloris Leachman.

Fox Announces 2011-2012 Schedule

by Jean Bentley, posted May 16th 2011 9:30AM
The X FactorIn advance of this afternoons Upfront presentation in New York, Fox announced its fall 2011 TV schedule this morning. There aren't any big surprises, aside from the 'Bones' spinoff 'Finder' getting its debut at midseason instead of this fall as a contingency plan for Emily Deschanel's pregnancy like many predicted.

The long-delayed 'Terra Nova' finally gets its official debut this fall, with the Steven Spielberg-produced dinosaur show airing Monday nights at 8PM before 'House.' 'The X Factor' takes over 'American Idol''s time slot, and will help launch a new comedy on Wednesday nights.

Another interesting tidbit to note: 'America's Most Wanted' has been discontinued as a regular TV series; after 23 years Fox has decided to bring back the show in the form of occasional specials.

Check out the full lineup after the jump.

Flirting Wars and an 'Office' Shout-Out on 'Raising Hope' (VIDEO)

'Raising Hope' - 'Everybody Flirts ... Sometimes'After it's revealed that Burt's been flirting as part of his lawn care service to get perks for the family on 'Raising Hope' (Tue., 9PM ET on FOX), Virginia and Jimmy decide to get in on some of that action as well.

Jimmy takes it to Sabrina at work, who'd been flirting with the boss already to get out of doing undesirable work like preparing the fish. So Jimmy ups his game and gets his flirt on, making a connection with Barney that starts to pay off right away.

Instead of having to clean out dead bugs from the lights, he got to experience Barney's workout regimen in his office. It turned out to be little more than holding Shake Weights.

Virginia, Burt Fight on 'Raising Hope'On 'Raising Hope' (Tue., 9PM ET on FOX), Burt and Virginia argue about what they'd do if/when their significant other dies. "It's crazy to call it cheating if the other person's dead," Burt contends.

Virginia is scandalized. "Is that your plan? Are you even gonna wait until my body's cold, or just hook up with some sexy paramedic while she's trying to jump-start my heart?!"

She then gives him an example -- Jennifer from the dry cleaners -- of a possible woman for him to be with after she's gone. He closes his eyes and starts imagining their first date. Virginia watches him and listens intently to see how this goes...

His fantasy starts out well, but Burt eventually freaks out and feels violated. "I can't [be with somebody else]. You're it for me forever!"

Virginia replies, "You're it for me forever too." Awww.

Reelz Fudged 'Kennedys' Ratings, Snooki Quits Wrestling and More TV News

by Jean Bentley, posted Apr 5th 2011 6:15PM
The KennedysTurns out, the first two hours of 'The Kennedys' miniseries wasn't the record-breaking success Reelz Channel wanted us to think it was.

Although the network reported an audience of 1.9 million, actual Nielsen numbers put the total at 1.3 million. That's 30 percent lower, Vulture points out.

So, what does Reelz have to say about the conflicting reports? A rep told Vulture, "The numbers we reported yesterday were fast national of average viewers per minute when we add our two showings (8PM East and 8PM West) together, which is the gross audience for an average minute."

Who Is Sane Enough to Be Hope's Guardians on 'Raising Hope' if the Family Dies?

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 16th 2011 2:28AM
'Raising Hope' - 'Mongooses'When they had to consider who could be Hope's guardians should anything happen to them, we got a fun trip down memory lane of some of the colorful characters we've met so far in this first season of 'Rasing Hope' (Tue., 8:30PM ET on FOX).

One of the signatures of Greg Garcia's prior series, 'My Name Is Earl,' was the cornucopia of recurring crazy people he populated the town with, and it looks like we're well on our way to creating another batch of them.

In the end, Jimmy settled on Sabrina. Not just because she's a main cast member and he's madly in love with her, but because she is about the sanest person on the show. And that includes Jimmy and his family.
