Colbert: Michele Bachmann Is One Randy Travis Petting Zoo From the White House (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 16th 2011 5:10AM
'The Colbert Report'After winning the Iowa Straw Poll, Stephen Colbert has confidence that Michele Bachmann may just have the winning formula to become the next President of the United States of America. On 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central), he said he was impressed that she reportedly handed out 6,000 voting tickets and got 4,823 votes.

"Bachmann got a commanding 80% of the votes she paid for," he said.

Furthermore, her combination of air conditioning, chairs, Randy Travis and a petting zoo in her tent proved to be a winning combination to the Iowans who came by, as was the food.

"I say this proves she could win the general election," Colbert said. "Assuming she can get 50 million voters into a field, pack them with barbecue, and let their children pet Randy Travis."

Randy Travis and Josh Turner Compete in 'Bass-Off' on 'Today' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 6th 2011 1:50PM
Josh Turner and Randy Travis on 'Today'Randy Travis has been a country music radio staple for 25 years, about five times longer than Josh Turner. What the pair have in common is that each possesses a muscular and dexterous baritone, which they displayed this morning on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC) for Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. They called it a "Bass-Off."

Turner is on Travis's new retrospective album 'Anniversary Celebration,' which also features collaborations with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Kristin Chenoweth, George Jones, Carrie Underwood, Don Henley, and the Zac Brown Band, among others. Gifford said she thought that after 25 years, Travis still had one of the best heads of hair in country music. "And I remember when you didn't have a grey one in there," she said.

Travis and Turner sang 'T.I.M.E.' from the album, providing woofer-shaking bass that would make Spinal Tap proud.

American Idol: Top 11 Elimination Results

american idol top 11

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned before that it's been a couple of years since I've seriously watched American Idol. I've caught episodes here and there, but haven't sat down with a full season in a while. I bring this up because I'm not sure if it's just that I've been away from it a while or if this year's group of finalists is especially good. We're still not even to the Top 10, and no one's performance was a complete disaster. Sure, I had my favorites, but nobody embarrassed themselves, which seems new to me.

What I love/hate about the results show is how, even if the contestants manage to get through the performance show embarrassment-free, that inevitably comes to an end the next night. Between the Ford commercial and the group sing, I have never watched a results show without spending a good portion cringing.

Speaking of cringing, tonight's result is kind of surprising, and I think it's going to polarize a lot of people. Someone who I thought would make it pretty far in the competition got the lowest number of votes. But does that mean he or she is going home?

Singers sign on for new FOX reality show

by Anna Johns, posted Jul 24th 2006 7:28PM
michael boltonThe list of singers agreeing to appear on FOX's Duets, a contest that pairs regular celebrities with singing celebrities, is a mixture of has-beens, legends, and Michael Bolton. The singers are: Cyndi Lauper, Smokey Robinson, Chaka Khan, Clint Black, Dionne Warwick, Patti LaBelle, Brian McKnight, Macy Gray, Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx, Randy Travis, and Aaron Neville. That's actually a pretty impressive list. I think many of those singers have done guest appearances on American Idol.

Now... who would make an interesting pair? I wouldn't be surprised to see Nicollette Sheridan coupled with her fiance, Michael Bolton. How about Punky Brewster with Cyndi Lauper? And Johnny Fairplay with Macy Gray?

The series debuts August 29th. The celebrity pairs will be eliminated each week by judges and viewer votes.
