Michael Trevino on 'The Vampire Diaries' Power Couple Caroline and Tyler: Their Relationship Is Genuine

by Jean Bentley, posted Oct 20th 2011 9:00AM
The Vampire DiariesLast week on 'The Vampire Diaries' brought us one of the biggest game-changers of the season thus far: Tyler, who was previously only burdened with the curse of turning into a werewolf every full moon, became the first successful (read: alive) member of Klaus' half-werewolf, half-vampire hybrid army.

When AOL TV caught up with star Michael Trevino on the Atlanta-area set of 'The Vampire Diaries,' he somehow very skillfully avoided spilling any of those secrets about his character, despite the fact that we watched him film a scene where he used his new vampire powers and didn't think anything of it.

While some of our chat is old news by now, read on for the still-relevant parts, including Trevino's thoughts on kissing scenes with Candice Accola, filming those intense werewolf transformations and Season 1 Tyler being a d-bag. And don't forget to check out our behind-the-scenes video from the set!

by Maureen Ryan, posted Oct 9th 2011 11:20PM
['Breaking Bad' - 'Face Off']

Before I get into my review of the fourth-season finale of 'Breaking Bad,' I'd like to point you to some additional coverage of the AMC drama.

Click here for an interview with the show's creator, Vince Gilligan, and go here for an interview with Giancarlo Esposito, a.k.a. Gus Fring.

Ryan McGee and I have also recorded a special 'Breaking Bad' podcast with Time TV critic James Poniewozik; you can find that right now here or on iTunes.

As for the finale itself, well, it gave us a few things to talk about, didn't it?

Spoilers ahead for 'Face Off.' Don't read on unless you've seen the final episode of 'Breaking Bad's' fourth season.

['Sons of Anarchy' - 'Brick']

The secrets and lies just keep piling up in the Sons of Anarchy clubhouse. When will the show's web site give us a scorecard that'll help us keep track of who knows what and who has told which lies to which people?

Because we may just need a scorecard before this season is out.

Consider Yourself Warned: Five Ways 'American Horror Story' Will Be a Train Wreck

by Maureen Ryan, posted Oct 4th 2011 2:00PM
You've probably heard some buzz about 'American Horror Story' (10PM ET Wednesday, FX), the new drama from 'Glee's' Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. That's not surprising; if there's one thing Murphy is good at, it's creating shocking moments that the media likes to gab about.

The thing is, that may be the only things he's good at anymore. It's not that 'American Horror Story' is 100 percent awful, though at times it veers dangerously close to that. But longtime Murphy watchers know that it's only a matter of time before the few promising elements are clobbered to death by the dumb moves his shows inevitably pull.

If you do get pulled in by the show's wildly uneven premiere, trust me, in time, you are bound to be disappointed. Let me count the ways:

EXCLUSIVE 'Up All Night' Sneak Peek: Check Out Reagan and Chris' 'New Car' (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Oct 3rd 2011 1:00PM
'Up All Night''Up All Night' (Wednesdays, 8PM ET on NBC) has a lot of hallmarks of a successful sitcom -- relatable leads (Christina Applegate and Will Arnett), a cute baby, funny job stuff and a crazy boss (Maya Rudolph).

What it's missing? Sure a sassy butler or talking pet is always high on our list, but this isn't that kind of show.

Our exclusive clip from this week's new episode proves that the writers know exactly what the show needs to take it to the next level: A sweet ride.

EXCLUSIVE: 'Desperate Housewives' Alum Stopping by 'Castle'

by Maggie Furlong, posted Oct 3rd 2011 10:00AM
Richard Burgi'Castle' fans are still waiting to find out who will get to play the title character's absentee father, but in the meantime, the show continues to draw great guest stars each episode (Mondays, 10PM ET on ABC).

AOL TV has just learned exclusively that a certain 'Desperate Housewives' alumnus will soon be stopping by.

Richard Burgi -- whom Wisteria Lane fans remember as Susan's (Teri Hatcher) ex Karl, the one who was engaged to Edie (Nicolette Sheridan) and then had an affair with Bree (Marcia Cross) before dying in a plane crash -- will be popping up on 'Castle' for an episode this November.

They're shooting the episode this week, but we've got early details on the episode and Burgi's role.

'End Times' Arrive in an Intense Episode of 'Breaking Bad' (VIDEO)

by Maureen Ryan, posted Oct 2nd 2011 11:00PM
'Breaking Bad' has done a spectacular job of making Walter White's journey from high school chemistry teacher to underworld player believable. Walt has done so very many bad things (though of course, in his mind, he's always had his reasons).

Redeeming or making up for the bad choices he's made isn't an option at this point, and hasn't been for a long time. But once in a while, Walt draws a line that makes you think he may not be truly evil. In doing his utmost to protect his family from the wrath of Gus Fring, Walt did the right thing.

Of course, it was really his only play, but when Walt said, "I alone should suffer the consequences of those choices," what could our reaction be but "Damn right you should!"

Review: 'How to Make It in America' Brings a Scruffy Energy to Season 2

by Maureen Ryan, posted Sep 30th 2011 1:30PM
Given how many new and returning shows are coming down the pike right now, I'm not sure why HBO, in its apparently finite wisdom, decided that now would be a good time to bring back 'How to Make It in America' (10:30PM ET Sunday, HBO).

It would be a shame if the scruffy saga of two would-be streetwear magnates got lost in the fall shuffle, but then, HBO seems to be content these days to let its generally low-key half-hour programs find their own audiences and perk along under their own steam.

Having said that, 'Bored to Death,' which also has a nicely detailed and lived-in New York atmosphere, would be a better 'HTMIIA' companion than the dour 'Hung.' Certainly the best thing about 'HTMIIA' -- aside from its terrific opening credits -- is the authentic feel of the lives of strivers who wouldn't dream of living anywhere else.

'Sons of Anarchy' Season 4, Episode 4 Recap

by Maureen Ryan, posted Sep 27th 2011 11:00PM
['Sons of Anarchy' - 'Una Venta']

We hear the word "patch" a lot on 'Sons of Anarchy,' and it's interesting to think about how its various meanings are applicable to the current state of the club.

Of course, to wear the SAMCRO patch means that you're a fully vested member of the club. But there are deep divisions within the club, as well as differences of opinion and temporary alliances with various non-member too.

'Una Venta' did a good job of showing us how those problems have been patched over, but underneath that temporary fix, things are really starting to fester.

Felicity Huffman Says Farewell to 'Desperate Housewives'

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 25th 2011 12:00PM
Felicity HuffmanSunday nights aren't going to be the same without Lynette, Gaby, Bree and Susan, but fans have one more season of craziness on 'Desperate Housewives' (Season 8 premieres Sun., Sept. 25, 9PM ET on ABC).

In last season's cliffhanger, the women of Wisteria Lane had entered another conspiracy together, covering up the murder of Gaby's evil stepfather. But there's an even greater challenge facing the entire cast: How are they going to process the fact that this guilty pleasure will be going off the air at the end of this season?

AOL TV spoke to Felicity Huffman -- who won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy after the show's first season -- regarding her feelings about the show ending and how she'd like to see things end up for Tom and Lynette.

Her answers may surprise you! Keep reason for more thoughts on what's sure to be a memorable final season.

'Supernatural' Season Premiere Recap

['Supernatural' - 'Meet the New Boss']

It's so good to have 'Supernatural' back. But it's just as delightful to have 'Supernatural' fans back. I look forward to hearing what you all have to say about the season 7 opener.

So, what if God was one of us? Except he's not really one of us, he's a mutated angel stuffed with millions of souls from purgatory plus lots of scary beasties from Ye Olden Days?

That wouldn't go so well. But it would make for a good hour of television.

Review: In Season 2, 'Boardwalk Empire' Proves to Be an Expensive, Expansive Misfire

by Maureen Ryan, posted Sep 22nd 2011 3:30PM
'Boardwalk Empire' (9PM ET Sunday, HBO) appears to have all the trappings of a quality cable drama.

It has a gifted cast and a conflicted central character. It has outstanding production values, a high-class pedigree and it spins out multiple narratives depicting people involved in questionable, if not nefarious, activities. It's an expensive period drama that airs on HBO, for goodness' sake.

And it should be to 'Boardwalk Empire's' credit that it does its utmost to lay out a meticulous panorama of Atlantic City in the '20s. We critics are always complaining about shows that drop plots, lose focus or go down blind alleys, but 'Boardwalk Empire' has a certain relentlessness when it comes to building the world of bootlegger and politician Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi).

But there's a problem here. Despite all the attention to detail, or maybe because of it, 'Boardwalk Empire' is a slog. For long periods of time, it's boring, glum, bloodless slog.

'Community' Season 3 Preview: New Teachers, Romance & Something Called Torg

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 22nd 2011 12:00PM
'Community' Season 3 starts off with a hallucination, some epic TV references and a quick and fun musical number (Thurs., Sept. 22, 8PM ET on NBC) -- and that's just in the first episode.

I visited the set to find out more about the season premiere, titled 'Biology 101,' and what else is coming up for our favorite Greendale Human Beings.

We know Annie gets a new nemesis in "Asian Annie," Chang is now a security guard and Troy and Abed are roommates (with Annie moving in with them soon, too), but what's changed for the rest of the study group?

Review: A Terrific Cast Brings 'A Gifted Man' to Life

by Maureen Ryan, posted Sep 22nd 2011 10:30AM
The best thing about the very good drama 'A Gifted Man' (8PM ET Friday, CBS) might be the fact that it's every bit as skeptical about ghosts as you are.

Well, maybe you're not skeptical about visitors from beyond the grave. Whether you are or not, 'A Gifted Man' should still work for you, because it treats the ghost, the person she appears to and the whole concept of working things out after death with an intelligent mixture of curiosity, confusion and compassion. There's no contempt, but neither is there any cliched, sentimental blather.

What I'm trying to say is, even though this show airs on Friday night on CBS, at no point will you be reminded of 'The Ghost Whisperer.'
