January Jones' Mad Men contract and other news
When we last saw Betty Draper, she was on a plane to Reno with Henry Francis by her side. Was that the end of her story, especially since Don Draper's undoubtedly going to go on without her? Well, Matthew Weiner doesn't like to give away much about the future, but January Jones has renewed her contract with Mad Men. Weiner confirmed it and spoke about some other bits and pieces from the Mad Men finale. He was in a giving mood. It wasn't just the holiday season, either. Mad Men had a great week in award nominations -- Golden Globes, Writers Guild and Screen Actors Guild.
Reno 911 on WGN this fall
I mentioned not too long ago that Reno 911! would be going into syndication, and it looks like Superstation WGN has picked up the series for its late night comedy block this fall that will also include Scrubs, Becker and Corner Gas (a Canadian sitcom). WGN has acquired the first three season of the improved series for a two-year run. The series finishes off its fourth season on Comedy Central starting April 1, and it has been picked up for a fifth season, as well.
I think Reno 911! should translate pretty well to syndication. Naturally, some stuff may be have to be censored or edited completely, but one advantage the show has is that it's shot as if its a legitimate reality show, a la Cops, which means naughty bits and swear words are often censored, anyway. I suppose they'd still have to do that even on Comedy Central, my point is that such censoring just adds to the "reality" of this fake program.
Reno 911!: the movie
Move over Super Troopers, Comedy Central's Reno 911! will be coming to a theater near you. Paramount
and 20th Century FOX are co-producing the flick, which is going to be called Reno 911!: Miami. Oh, that's a
good title! Series co-creators Robert Garant, Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney, who also star in the series, are penning
the script, which is described as being largely improvisational. Kinda like the show. In the movie, the entire Reno
sheriff's department goes to a police convention in Miami during Spring Break (who's manning the station back at home?
who cares!), where a bio-attack is launched on their hotel. I wonder if they'll still bleep out the profanity and blur
the nudity, since it's shot in the style of a cops show. It starts shooting January 23rd in LA and Miami.I love Reno 911! and I think I'll probably buy a ticket to the movie when it comes out. What do you guys think? Can Reno 911! translate to the big screen?
