Phillip Lomax, 'The X Factor'After getting bumped back a day thanks to a rain-delayed ALCS game, 'The X Factor' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX) kicked off the 'Judges' Houses' round of the competition, featuring the final 32 competitors. And to whet our appetites for what's to come, we're being treated to full performances from each of them as they sing for their spots in the Top 16.

L.A. Reid, who's mentoring the Boys category, brought in Rihanna to help him make the tough decision of which four boys to send home. But he made the challenge even harder for Phillip Lomax by tasking him to sing a Rihanna song in front of the woman herself.

Susie Essman and Jeff Lewis Play 'Guess the Hairy Armpit' on 'Watch What Happens Live' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 15th 2011 6:20PM
Susie Essman and Jeff Lewis look at Julia Roberts' armpit on 'Watch What Happens Live'When it comes to gross, time-wasting late-night TV games, 'Watch What Happens Live' (Thursdays and Sundays, 11PM on Bravo) is the clear-cut intergalactic champion. On Thursday's edition, host Andy Cohen and his guests Susie Essman and Jeff Lewis celebrated 'Pit-stille Day' by looking at pictures of a woman's hairy armpit and guessing to whom it belonged.

For the first armpit, Cohen gave them the choice of Beyonce, Rihanna, or NeNe Leakes. "You know, I don't want to say what that looks like," said Essman. Cohen was thinking the same thing. Essman and Lewis both guessed wrong, as it turned out to be Beyonce. For a particularly unattractive patch, they were given the choices of Julia Roberts, Amy Winehouse, or Courtney Love. Surprisingly, it was Roberts.

Essman wound up the champion, and received a $1,000 gift certificate for hair removal as a prize. Lewis was happy he didn't win. "I would never have used that," he said. Cohen said he had heard otherwise. Oh, the dalliances of the Hollywood hirsute.

Rihanna Performs on 'Today' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted May 27th 2011 1:30PM
Rihanna on 'Today'Rihanna stopped by 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC) this morning to perform a couple of songs and speak with Matt Lauer. She sang 'S&M' and 'Only Girl (in the World)' and talked about her appearance with Britney Spears earlier in the week on the Billboard Awards that some found a bit risqué.

Lauer didn't have a problem with it. "Some people thought that performance was a little hot for television," he said of the Billboard number. "I've watched it 11 times, and it didn't bother me at all."

It didn't bother Rihanna, either. "We were fully clothed," she said. "Nothing popped out. We didn't make out."

Maybe that's what people were really objecting to.

Rihanna, 'Chelsea Lately'Rihanna's 23rd birthday was a big bash in Australia. And she invited Chelsea Handler and her sidekick Chuy to join her for the festivities down under. Unfortunately, as we learned on 'Chelsea Lately' (Weeknights, 11PM on E!), things didn't go exactly to plan. Then, apparently things got even more out of hand than reality would allow.

"You came so early in the night," Rihanna said of Handler. "I was still upstairs painting my face on, so I missed you." Apparently, Handler wasn't able to stay long enough to see Rihanna, but she was there long enough to give the New York Post a story.

"It was in the New York Post the next day that I got into a huge fight with my boyfriend at your party," Handler said. "I wasn't even with a boyfriend." But when has reality ever slowed the Post down?

This is TV Squad. We don't pretend to have a deep understanding of music and the hottest new artists. However, when the music industry decides to fill three hours of television time with their awards show, we feel an obligation to offer our opinion about it.

The performances were mostly great and the presenters were as awkward and cheesy as always. What follows is a recap from TV writer's point of view, someone who finds pleasure in watching huge television events and making snarky comments to an empty living room.

Chris Brown Tries for Redemption at the 'BET Awards 2010'The 'BET Awards 2010' (Sun., 8PM ET on BET) took place tonight. The show featured performances by Alicia Keys, Enimem, and Drake. Among the nominees for awards were Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, as well as many others.

Kanye West also showed up to perform -- in one of his first high-profile events since notoriously interrupting Taylor Swift at the 'MTV Video Music Awards.'

But the highlight of the show was an performance by Chris Brown, who paid tribute to Michael Jackson. Brown famously pled guilty last year for assaulting his girlfriend Rihanna, and ever since then, his sales and reputation have suffered. But he appeared to make a stab at redemption with his emotional rendition of several of Michael Jackson's hit songs -- including 'Billie Jean' and 'Man in the Mirror.' At the close of his performance, Brown broke down into tears. Were they tears of remorse for what he had done to Rihanna?

The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Rihanna reveals her newest tattooToday on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' (weekdays, syndicated), Rihanna revealed her newest tattoo. In fact, the songstress has "approximately" 13 tattoos, and her newest is written across the side of her chest. After a brief scolding to the cameraman for getting too close, she told Ellen what the tattoo says. "Never a failure, always a lesson."

"Basically, it's saying it's ok to make mistakes, just don't make 'em twice," said Rihanna. Not only that, but the tattoo is backwards, so she can read it in the mirror.

All of this prompted Ellen to reveal her own tattoo, which says, "Right side up." "Always reminding me which way to ... whoa, I'm upside down!"
