Angie Harmon Talks 'Rizzoli & Isles,' Lorraine Bracco and Working Moms

by AOL TV Staff, posted Jul 12th 2010 1:00PM

If you've been waiting for Angie Harmon to return to your TV screen since the cancellation of 'Women's Murder Club,' you'll be happy to know that her new series, 'Rizzoli & Isles,' premieres Mon., July 12, 10PM ET on TNT.

Based on the books by Tess Gerritsen, the story follows Boston detective Jane Rizzoli (Harmon) and medical examiner Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), good friends who together bust some of the city's most notorious bad guys. But they're also complete opposites. Maura wears designer duds and is more comfortable among the dead than the living. Jane is tough and gutsy, a better basketball player than her brother, and tends to dodge her overprotective mom, played by the always fabulous Lorraine Bracco (won't it be great to see her back onscreen, too?!).

Early Look: Harmon and Alexander Charm in 'Rizzoli & Isles'

Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander in 'Rizzoli & Isles' on TNT
The first thing you notice about 'Rizzoli & Isles,' a new cop drama in TNT's cop-drama-heavy schedule, is that you're just dropped into the middle of the title characters' world without much of an introduction. "Show, don't tell" is a maxim that every screenwriter and novelist learns early in their careers; Tess Gerritsen -- on whose books this show is based -- and Janet Tamaro have followed this maxim almost to the point where there's no exposition at all.

And, while the concept behind the show -- a cop and a coroner who are polar opposites but are best friends and a crack crime solving team -- isn't revolutionary by any means, the show's leads, Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander, make it work by so thoroughly inhabiting their characters.

TNT picks up more dramas

by Danny Gallagher, posted Jan 21st 2010 11:33PM
TNT has some new dramatic shows on the horizon and believe it or not, they actually don't involve sexy cops or lawyers. Well, one of them does.

The cable network has picked up a new science fiction series about aliens overtaking humanity starring Noah Wyle, a detective series starring Angie Harmon and (surprise!) a cop drama starring Jason Lee.

The "untitled alien invasion series" (wouldn't it be a big bowl of hilariousness if that were the actual title?) will star Wyle as the leader of a band of human resisters who aspire to take back the Earth from an alien race that has laid waste to humanity. Since this is being produced by Steven Speilberg, how about calling it Close Encounters of the Ass Kicking Kind?
