Patrick Swayze succumbs to pancreatic cancer at 57

Patrick SwayzeSome more sad news from Tinseltown. Movie star and recent television star Patrick Swayze has lost his 20 month battle with pancreatic cancer at his ranch in Los Angeles. He was 57 years old.

Barbara Walters will air the actor's final television interview in a one hour special titled Last Dance tonight at 10 PM eastern/9 PM central on ABC.

He's probably best known for his work on the big screen in movies like Ghost, Dirty Dancing and (of course) the timeless Road House, a movie that became a cult sensation for all the wrong reasons and helped birth the sense of humor of MST3K and Rifftrax's Michael J. Nelson. But like all Hollywood actors, he made his presence known on the small screen, and his reach goes much further than his recent venture into cable drama glory with A&E's The Beast.

Supernatural: Hunted

Katharine Isabelle(S02E10) Finally! After waiting all summer, and ten episodes into the new season, Supernatural fans get the answer they have all been waiting for. It's not quite a complete answer, but it's enough for now. That five week break between "Croatoan" and "Hunted" was a rough one given the cliff-hanger ending. The writers had one more surprise for us though, as it turns out Dean didn't really have the secret.

When Dean revealed that John had told him he had to save Sam, and that if he couldn't he'd have to kill him, I was left thinking, "And...." There had to be more to it than that. Apparently Dean didn't get the full story, but luckily for us, and I guess for Dean and Sam too, Scott Carey (Richard de Klerk) got the full scoop straight from the demon. As he tells his therapist, "There's a war coming, and people like me, we're gonna be the soldiers."

Supernatural: Simon Said

Alona Tal - Supernatural(S02E05) What did John whisper to Dean in the hospital? That's the big question. This week they teased us by showing that clip again in the opening, hinting that maybe we'd get the answer. In the end, we still don't know, but the Winchester boys did get some more information on the children. Despite leaving viewers wanting in that regard, this was another good episode.

A crazy opening with the murder/suicide vision. He was so matter of fact. It's all ok. It's all ok. I was happy to see that it led Sam and Dean back to the ROADHOUSE. It did strike me as a little odd that Dean didn't want to go there. Worrying about a few other hunters and what they might think doesn't sound like the Dean we know. It's the beginning of an odd role-reversal for Sam and Dean this week.

Mike Nelson starts RiffTrax commentaries for iPods

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 21st 2006 11:51AM

Mike NelsonWhat a very cool, very clever idea: commentary tracks you can download to your iPod (or other mp3 player) and listen to while you watch a movie in your own home!

RiffTrax is from the brain of Mike Nelson, host and head writer of Mystery Science Theater 3000. He'll do wiseass commentary tracks, a la MST3K, and you listen to them while you watch the movie he's talking about on your DVD player or on your computer. The first movie is Roadhouse, the (as Mike puts it ) "best movie ever made about a world-famous bouncer and his epic struggle with the evil owner of the local J.C. Penney." The site is in beta mode right now, so I'm not sure if the $1.99 price is permanent. He might have guests join him in future commentaries. Make sure you vote on which movie you'd like to hear a commentary for next (right now, The Matrix is in the lead, but I'd love to see it be Cocktail.)
