Emmys Comedy Actress Beauty Pageant Was Amy Poehler's Idea (VIDEO)

by Jean Bentley, posted Sep 21st 2011 4:55PM
Parks and Rec Good Day LAAfter such a long summer, it's hard to believe that it's almost time to return to Pawnee, Ind. and catch up with the 'Parks and Recreation' gang.

Stars Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, otherwise known as Leslie Knope and Ron Effing Swanson, appeared on 'Good Day LA' (weekdays, 9AM PT on Fox) ostensibly to preview Season 4 of the NBC show (premieres Thu., Sept. 22, 8:30PM ET), but they mostly talked about Poehler's hilarious bit at the Emmys on Sunday where the entire Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy category was turned into a beauty pageant.

Unsurprisingly, the entire thing was Poehler's idea (with an assist from fellow nominee Martha Plimpton). And although presenter Rob Lowe planned for it (he had a bouquet and a tiara ready for winner Melissa McCarthy), Poehler shared a fun fact about the actor (and 'Parks and Rec' costar) that you might not know: he carries that tiara everywhere. "To be fair, he does always carry a tiara in his pocket," Poehler joked.

TV Star Fights With Octomom, Oscar Producers Downplay Oprah's Involvement & More TV News

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jul 10th 2011 4:00PM
Kristen Johnston, Nadya SulemanWhen Octomom became a household word, people everywhere dreamed of what they'd say to Nadya Suleman, the outrageous single mom of multiples who was grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons.

According to MSNBC, Kristen Johnston -- best known for her role on '3rd Rock From the Sun' -- got the chance on a recent flight from NYC to L.A.

Apparently Octomom was having trouble keeping her 12 children quiet, even before the flight took off, and the outspoken Johnston was not gonna put up with it for the entire cross-country trip.

Suleman's rep told E!: "Nadya and her children were in business class ... apparantly Kristen became upset and came from 1st class to tell her to keep her kids quiet. They had an altercation and Kristen got off the plane and never returned. While Nadya had help from her friend and two older children, it's not easy to travel with one two-year-old let alone eight two-year-olds on a plane. She did the best anyone could."

Rob Lowe Blew His Knee Out Trying for the Lead in 'Footloose' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 10th 2011 4:46AM
Rob Lowe, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'Thanks to the movie 'Footloose,' Rob Lowe may never dance again. But, Rob Lowe was never in 'Footloose,' you say? As he stated on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC), he didn't even need to be in the movie for it to end his dance career.

Granted, he also said he was a terrible dancer, which begs the question of why he was so determined to try to do it for this film. Maybe move on and stick to what you're good at.

"I actually blew my meniscus in my knee out on the 'Footloose' auditions," Lowe said. He went on to relate how that story isn't nearly as impressive when trying to use it as a young actor to pick up girls, but Jimmy Kimmel wasn't having any of it.

Rob Lowe Discusses His 1989 Sex Tape Scandal on 'Oprah' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 28th 2011 6:30PM
Rob Lowe on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show'Rob Lowe's sex tape scandal the night before the Democratic National Convention in 1989 was huge, career-threatening news at the time. Now? Not so much. But, as Oprah Winfrey pointed out on today's 'Oprah Winfrey Show' (weekdays, syndicated), Lowe was one of the first celebrities to have a sex tape scandal. And that's something of which he's not terribly proud.

"Sometimes being a trailblazer is highly overrated," he said. Lowe was caught on tape with two women, one of whom turned out to be only 16 years old. Lowe said he had been hassled about producing his own ID at the door of the club where he met the women, so assumed they couldn't have been underage. So, when did he find out one of them was 16? "Ha! A little too late," he said.

Lowe said the scandal almost seems quaint now, with people releasing sex tapes to boost their careers. But he also notes it was the best thing that ever happened to him because it helped push him toward sobriety. Nothing, it seems, could have prevented 'Dr. Vegas,' though, which pushed many others toward sobriety.

PaleyFest 2011: The 'Parks and Recreation' Cast Talk Romance, Charlie Sheen and the Return of Tammy

by Laura Prudom, posted Mar 10th 2011 12:00PM
Amy PoehlerRumors of Rob Lowe's career suicide have been greatly exaggerated, according to 'Parks and Recreation' executive producer Michael Schur.

Joined by every P&R star except Lowe (who was visiting colleges with his kids and thus couldn't make it to the panel, conspiracy theorists!), Schur used the forum of PaleyFest 2011 to dispel the histrionic online rumor that one of his series regulars would be abandoning ship to replace Charlie Sheen in 'Two and a Half Men'.

"He's a full-time cast member of the show, he has a very long multi-year contract. This is just a case of someone tossing a name up in the air, and then the Internet lit a match and set itself on fire," Schur reassured the full house of 'Parks and Rec' fans gathered to celebrate the NBC comedy, now entering its third season. TV Squad was on hand at the panel and the press line, so join us after the jump for interviews with the cast and details of what's to come for our favorite nutty government employees. 'Californication' Season 4, Episode 6 Recap

by Dr. Ryan Vaughan, PhD (no, seriously), posted Feb 14th 2011 5:30AM
'Californication' S04/E06['Californication' - 'Lawyers, Guns and Money']

The title of this episode of 'Californication' hints at something decidedly not Hank Moody. He despises lawyers and their soulless profession. The thought of Hank brandishing a weapon is absurd to almost comic degrees, and while he should have money shooting out of his fingertips at will, he doesn't.

He holds the kind of elitist cool principles that make all three of those things cripplingly lame. Now his actions and decisions have transformed them into necessary evils for Hank to survive: The lawyer to keep him out of his own way, out of prison, and presumably into her bed; the money to pay for the lawyer, to buy his daughter's guitar and love, and to fund his various binges; and the guns to challenge Ben, the new threat to Karen's love, to a duel at high noon.

Rob Lowe Goes Nuts On 'Parks & Recreation' Cast (VIDEO)

by Ryan McKee, posted Jan 18th 2011 4:30PM
No former '80s teen movie star/hearthrob has embraced television as enthusiastically as Rob Lowe.

After the film industry proved to be fickle, Lowe relaunched his career as Sam Seaborn on 'The West Wing' and then as Senator Robert McCallister on 'Brothers & Sisters.' He also did a turn as the hilariously bad yet charismatic politician Chris Traeger on 'Parks and Recreation' last season, and guest starred on the new season of 'Californication' as a unbalanced movie star.

So, Lowe seems to really love being on TV. And the cast of 'Parks and Recreation' found out just how much in this Funny or Die exclusive where they tell Lowe the show debuts its third season on Jan. 20 after a prolonged break.

'Californication' Season 4, Episode 2 Recap

by Dr. Ryan Vaughan, PhD (no, seriously), posted Jan 17th 2011 6:30AM
David Duchovny in 'Californication'['Californication' - 'Suicide Solution']

Hank Moody is a lot like another cad that I have written extensively about: The same sense of the world owing them something, the same blatant disregard for candor and social contracts, the same penchant for the lady-folk, and the same flair for the shockingly vulgar as Kenny Powers ... only with a firm grasp -- one might say "a stranglehold" -- on the English language.

Hank knows how to use his words to get what he wants, and to manipulate those less acquainted with the ways of the pen, while Kenny banged away at his words with a utilitarian bent that approached grunting. Yes, it's words that separate Hank Moody from the sea of cads of his ilk, and it's time to see if they can save him from himself.

Rob Lowe Goes to Washington in New Reality Series

Rob Lowe is teaming up with production house 44 Blue for a new Washington D.C. based reality series. All those years of portraying government officials on shows like 'The West Wing' and 'Brothers & Sisters' seem to have grown on Rob Lowe -- so much so that he has decided to base a new series on real-life up-and-comers in the nation's capital.

According to the Washington Post, Lowe has teamed up with production company 44 Blue to launch a new reality series titled 'Potomac Fever.' The show would focus on a group of young Washingtonians as they try to make headway in the politically-charged District of Columbia.

According to Lowe, his affinity for the adventures of young Washingtonians is the reason he decided to help create the series. "They live and love at the center of world power," he said. "I can't wait to tell their stories."
