The 16 Most Accomplished 'Real' Women on TV Right Now

by Joel Keller, posted Mar 16th 2011 1:30PM
Oprah WinfreyA couple of weeks ago, we gave you the list of the 100 most memorable female characters in TV history. There was lots of talk and conjecture among the readers about who we missed and who shouldn't have been there, which is why we do these lists to begin with.

But there were a fair number of people who asked us "Where's Ellen DeGeneres?" or "Where's Oprah?" among others. Well, since we were talking about TV characters and not real people, those folks had to be left off the list (And, yes, we know Ellen played a pretty important TV character ... more on this later.)

Fear not, loyal TV watchers. We've got a list for those of you who want to celebrate women who put themselves out there, have created a brand, or have made significant contributions to the current TV landscape as themselves and not a fictional character.

The list isn't in any particular order; after the first few obvious names, the rest of the women on this list come so close, it's hard to rank them. So we'll just start with TV's most accomplished woman (hint: her name starts with an O ... and it ain't Omarosa) and go from there.

Jennifer Aniston Didn't Like 'The Rachel' Haircut, But Wants Robin Roberts to Get 'The Dorothy Hamill' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Feb 10th 2011 1:40PM
Jennifer Aniston, Robin Roberts, Good Morning America, Dorothy HamillJennifer Aniston's character Rachel from 'Friends' was so popular that she sparked her own self-titled '90s hairstyle trend. But in a recent Allure cover story, and again today on 'Good Morning America' (Weekdays, 7AM on ABC), Aniston talked about her mixed feelings on "The Rachel."

Looking back on old photos, Aniston said she generally likes the look. But like clockwork, when 'GMA' put an old shot up on the screen, she said "that looks silly." She hopes to gain more perspective on the look as time passes.

"In hindsight," said Aniston, "when I'm much, much, much ... like 100 years old, I'll be able to look back and say, 'Oh, they had a haircut about a character I played.' That's kind of ... like the Dorothy Hamill or something."

Roberts then confessed she always wanted the Dorothy Hamill, but her mother told her that she had a 'fro, so she couldn't get it. Aniston encouraged her to get the cut now, which made Roberts laugh. "I'm going to tell mamma you said that," she said.

Sarah Palin Believes She Can Overcome Bad Poll Numbers With Good Debates in the GOP Primary (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Dec 17th 2010 1:30PM
On a media tour to promote her new book "America by Heart," Sarah Palin stopped by 'Good Morning America' today (Weekdays, 7 AM ET on ABC) for an interview with Robin Roberts. Roberts asked Palin the inevitable question about whether she is considering a run for the presidency in 2012.

"It's a prayerful consideration, but my decision won't be made for some months still," the former Vice-Presidential candidate told Roberts.

Then Roberts brought up a recent Wall Street Journal poll which had Palin trailing Barack Obama by 22 points in a hypothetical 2012 presidential match up.

"A poll number like that, it's like 'yeah, that doesn't look really pretty today,' but a primary is months in the process and there are thankfully many debates," Palin said.

Some have suggested Palin is dangling the possibility of a presidential run because it helps keep her books and TV show in the spotlight, but that she actually has no intention of running. What do you think? Do you expect Palin to run for president in 2012?

Barbra Streisand Would Rather Direct Movies Than Work on Her House (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 16th 2010 10:00AM
Barbra Streisand Would Rather Direct Movies Than Work on Her HouseBarbra Streisand appeared on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC). While on the show, she talked about her dormant film career, and how she would like to make a return to directing movies. Babs said that directing a film is "easier than building a house." In her case, this could easily be true.

Streisand discussed her newest home, located in Malibu, California -- it's one of three houses that she has on the same compound. This most recent addition is called "The Barn" -- Streisand spent five years on the construction, hiring and firing a dozen architects while building it.

Barbra began working on The Barn after a movie project fell through -- as a result, she had "a need for artistic expression." Her design choices were unique -- including a row of life-sized fake shops which she calls "the stores."
