Sex and the City, the movie: on again?

by Brett Love, posted Nov 7th 2006 4:11PM
sarah jessica parkerThe ongoing saga of the Sex and the City film reminds me of the Carrie and Mr. Big relationship. Yes. No. Yes. No. Just make a decision already. Last June, Kat reported that it just wasn't happening. But wait, things change. The latest up in the roller coaster production ride comes from a rumor over at OK magazine. They have a story up that says, "...substantial negotiations have opened with each of the star's teams..."

That's a long way from actually making the movie, but a step in the right direction. The thing I don't get... is there really a market out there for the Sex and the City movie? I quit watching around the time that Miranda got pregnant because I just lost interest. Unless the story for the movie is going to be that Carrie and Charlotte have given up on men and now spend their days frolicking naked in Charlotte's apartment, I can think of dozens of TV shows I would rather see jump to the big screen. Is it just me? Would you go see the Sex and the City movie?

BREAKING RUMOR: NBC Entertainment head Kevin Reilly to be fired

by Joel Keller, posted Oct 18th 2006 6:35PM
Kevin ReillyJust got a tip into TV Squad HQ; there is scuttlebutt that NBC Entertainment president Kevin Reilly is going to be fired sometime later this afternoon. Apparently, Reilly's failure to create a hit for NBC during his tenure is going to cost him his job.

If you recall, Reilly programmed a number of expensive, lavishly-done pilots for this fall season, like Kidnapped, Friday Night Lights, and Studio 60, all of which are tanking in the ratings. That along with a history of tentative decision-making was his undoing. The announcement will be made this afternoon; expect to see it in the trades tomorrow.

(Update 11:49 ET: No announcement tonight, as our tipster told us would happen. We contacted NBC for a response to this rumor and they didn't confirm or deny it. Guess we'll just keep waiting.)

(Update 10/19 8:23 PM: Well, folks, looks like the rumor -- as with all the past rumors of Reilly's firing -- didn't pan out, since he spoke at a panel of network heads earlier today. Our tipster has been thrown into TVS HQ's moat. Let's hope said tipster can avoid the crocs and piranha...)

Diana Ross won't appear on Desperate Housewives

by Adam Finley, posted Oct 18th 2006 2:10PM
diana rossDespite so-called rumors, singer Diana Ross will not be doing a cameo role on ABC's Desperate Housewives, nor was she ever approached by anyone involved with the show about doing such a cameo. I've done some exhaustive research to find out just why the creators of Desperate Housewives never approached Ross about appearing on the series, and after speaking with experts, going over large amounts of data, and meditating naked inside a cave, I came to the conclusion that no one cares about Diana Ross anymore. Although, if she wanted to keep at least one toe in the spotlight she should just make up rumors about being on other shows, too. Next she could try denying she was ever asked to appear on Meet the Press to discuss exit strategies in Iraq. If she were on Meet the Press I'm sure advice to president Bush would be to stop the conflict (in the name of love). Lame joke, I know, but it's not like I had much to work with.

Tom Selleck to be new chief of NRA?

by Joel Keller, posted Sep 20th 2006 3:02PM
Tom SelleckU.S. News and World Report, which is right up there with Page Six as far as entertainment rumors are concerned, has an item in their "Washington Whispers" column this week that says Tom Selleck's name is being bandied about as Charlton Heston's successor as president of the NRA. Heston's been president for five terms, but will no longer be able to do the job due to the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

The reason why Selleck's name has come up is because he has been a member on-and-off for years and he currently is on the gun lobby association's board. But he may not make the cut because his "leading man" status will keep him from devoting the time needed to stump for the organization. I was going to say something snide here, but looking at Tom's IMDb profile, it looks like he's still the lead in a lot of projects (last year's Eisenhower biopic and the Jesse Stone TV movies being two examples). I'd like to see him take the job just so he can go on The View and mix it up with Rosie again. Not sure who would win in that fight.

Latest rumor: Futurama coming back to Fox?

by Joel Keller, posted May 8th 2006 1:36PM
FuturamaOK, here's the latest of the thirteen kajillionth rumor we've heard about Futurama in the last six months: According to this CNN article that goes through a bunch of rumors about the 2006-07 season, the speculation ahead of Fox' upfront presentation is that they are going to begin airing new episodes of the Matt Groening cult classic. Conisdering we've been hearing things about movies and new episodes for some time, this isn't much of a surprise. But, at the very least, CNN is reporting it instead of some site like futuramaisthebestcartoonever.com, so maybe this is getting very close to reality.

(Look at the 2nd paragraph for info on Futurama.)

Jack Osbourne is dating Kate Moss?

by Anna Johns, posted Jan 20th 2006 10:53AM
I bet even Jack Osbourne never thought he'd get to date supermodel Kate Moss someday. But now he's hot and she's clean, so apparently they make a good match. The unlikely couple were reportedly doing some dirty dancing at a party after the Golden Globes awards in Los Angeles earlier this week. Tabloids have them on a bunch of other dates, too.

Kate Moss has just been through a heck of a time. She was caught by British tabloids doing cocaine, lost half her modeling contracts, dumped her druggie boyfriend, and ran off to rehab in the United States. Maybe that's where she and Jack have a connection. He also did a stint in rehab for a drug and alcohol addiction. Jack, by the way, is 20 years old. Kate is 32.
