'Glee' News: Sue Sylvester Does David Bowie
by Catherine Lawson, posted Mar 31st 2011 8:35AM
In episodes past on 'Glee' we've seen Sue Sylvester channeling Madonna and Olivia Newton-John, and now comes news that she's tapping into her inner Major Tom by taking on David Bowie.Jane Lynch, who plays the scheming cheerleading coach, told 'Access Hollywood' that "I'm dressing up as David Bowie today. ... Sue Sylvester is going incognito as David Bowie. I mean, come on. Who gets this kind of stuff?"
However, Lynch stopped short of revealing any details about Sue's Bowie look. With the singer's myriad of alter egos to choose from, it's hard to say just which one will appear on screen, though we're pretty sure the outfit will be sweatpants-free.
Dave Grohl Burns Ryan Murphy: Dude, Maybe Not Everyone Loves 'Glee'
by Chris Harnick, posted Mar 18th 2011 2:00PM
Dave Grohl really doesn't want Foo Fighters songs on 'Glee' -- he said so using some very harsh words directed toward the show's creator, Ryan Murphy. The Foo Fighters frontman told the Hollywood Reporter at SXSW that his songs won't be getting 'Glee' cast versions anytime soon. Grohl admitted to having seen approximately 10 minutes of the show before determining that it wasn't his "thing."
"It's every band's right, you shouldn't have to do f---ing 'Glee.' And then the guy who created 'Glee' is so offended that we're not, like, begging to be on his f---ing show ... f--- that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do 'Glee.'"

Three Ways 'Glee' Could Be Helped By Ryan Murphy's New FX Show
by Joel Keller, posted Feb 21st 2011 5:30PM
When word came down from the folks at FX that 'Glee' impresarios Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy (pictured at right) were going to return to the cable net with a new drama entitled 'American Horror Story,' I'm sure many fans of the FOX musical mega-hit were wondering what that would mean for their favorite show. It's not a misguided thought; Murphy's fingerprints are all over 'Glee,' which would make sense because the writing staff consists of Murphy, Falchuk and Ian Brennan. The theme of how it feels to be a high school outcast has been, by his admission, very near and dear to him; it's not a stretch to say, for instance, that the breakout character of Kurt is a thinly-veiled version of Murphy as a teenager. With Murphy and Falchuk splitting time between the two shows, will it lose what makes it 'Glee?'
I don't think it will. In fact, Murphy and Falchuk splitting their time between the two shows might be the best thing that's ever happened to the show, for three pretty good reasons.
FX Orders Pilot From 'Glee' Creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk
by Jean Bentley, posted Feb 17th 2011 4:45PM
Apparently 'Glee''s production schedule isn't crazy enough for co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, because FX just announced it has ordered a pilot of the duo's new drama project, 'American Horror Story.'According to Deadline, the horror show's plot is being kept under wraps for now. Here's what we do know: The pilot will be shot in April, the episodes will be an hour long, casting has already begun, and ... yeah, that's about it.
In a press release, Murphy said he and Falchuk had been working on the project "for a while. [FX president and general manager] John Landgraf and I have maintained a wonderful relationship since 'Nip/Tuck' ended its run, and he gave me an open invitation to develop a new show for the network."
Gwyneth Paltrow Resolves 'Glee' / Kings of Leon Feud, January Jones Talks 'Mad Men' and More
by Jean Bentley, posted Feb 17th 2011 1:10PM
The Kings of Leon and Ryan Murphy have resolved their feud in the form of an unlikely peacemaker: Gwyneth Paltrow. The actress, who starred in Murphy's 2006 film 'Running With Scissors,' took it upon herself to patch things up between the feuding parties -- via text message, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
After the band said they wouldn't license their music to 'Glee,' Murphy, uh, quoted the lyrics to the non-censored version of Cee Lo's 'Forget You.' The band insisted it often turns down such requests and it wasn't meant as an insult to the show, but drummer Nathan Followill got into a war of words with Murphy on Twitter.
According to THR's source, though, after Paltrow's intervention "it's all good now."

Timothy Olyphant Met 'Glee' Creator Ryan Murphy And Wasn't Asked If He Could Sing (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Feb 9th 2011 4:04AM
Timothy Olyphant had something to get off his chest, and 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' (Weeknights, 12:35AM ET on NBC) was his chosen forum. Apparently, the 'Justified' actor met 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy at the Super Bowl and was none too pleased with the reception he received."He was super nice, and I remember saying nice things to him and not once did he ask me if I knew how to sing," Olyphant said. He went on a rant about how Murphy should have asked him. After all, Olyphant said he liked 'Glee.'
He thinks he should have been asked, even if Murphy was insincere about it. "I was faking it," he admitted. "I haven't even seen the show."
'Glee' vs. Kings of Leon: Who Wins?
by Stephanie Earp, posted Jan 31st 2011 5:00PM

Last week Egypt erupted into revolution, and indie band Kings of Leon and 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy had a media fight. As much as I'd like to tell you how I feel about current events in Egypt, I am a pop culture and television writer, so instead we're gonna be talking about a bunch of overpaid, self-congratulatory boobs -- which I swear would be my description of anyone who resorts to fighting on Twitter.
But if you sense more than the usual amount of venom in my turns of phrase, I can't deny it and feel I should warn you: I am not a fan of either of these two entities, and if you don't think you can handle someone crowing about how stupid they are without resorting to death threats, you should click elsewhere.
And now, to recap -- let's look at how this developed:

Them's fightin' words: 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy and Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill got into a war of words today after Murphy made like Cee Lo and said "Forget you" (the unedited version) to the band for not allowing 'Glee' to use their music on the show."Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra," tweeted the drummer, according to Vulture.
Murphy responded via statement to Perez Hilton, saying "Wow. That's a homophobe badly in need of some education." Followill later apologized.

Will 'Glee' Really Do a Bieber Episode? Plus: Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristin Chenoweth Return
by Jean Bentley, posted Jan 10th 2011 10:45AM
Someone in the 'Glee' cast has contracted a very serious case of Bieber Fever -- at least we think that's what happened.Over the weekend, conflicting reports came out about whether or not the Fox show would dedicate an entire episode to Justin Bieber. While TVLine originally wrote that the boy with the bangs would be the latest recipient of a themed episode, creator Ryan Murphy told Perez Hilton that it would only be one song. Now, Deadline is reporting that it'll be three songs. So, which is it?
Here's what we know for sure: Sam is definitely singing at least one Bieber song in an upcoming episode, but it's unclear if there will be more.
"We are doing an episode where Sam sings a JB song to win Quinn back ... and copies his hairstyle, etc. But it's a small part of a big episode that has a LOT of other things going on," Murphy told Perez Hilton.
'Glee' Characters to Graduate in 2012
by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 1st 2010 1:00PM
It was bound to happen eventually, Gleeks. 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy has announced the graduation date for some of the high school characters on the Fox hit. In 2012, prepare to say goodbye to some beloved members of New Directions.
We can see it now: the cast swaying on stage, belting out Vitamin C's quintessential hit 'Graduation (Friends Forever),' tears running down faces -- both theirs and ours.
"Every year we're going to populate a new group," Murphy told News.Com.Au. "There's nothing more depressing than a high schooler with a bald spot."
'Glee' Coach Dot-Marie Jones Talks Pro Arm-Wrestling Days and Beating Leno (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted Oct 5th 2010 4:30AM
Dot-Marie Jones owes her role in 'Glee' to a shopping trip to Whole Foods. Seriously. McKinley High's new football coach ran into 'Glee' co-creator Brad Falchuk at the grocery store. The two had worked together before, and he told her about his latest venture."I love that show! ... I wanta be on there -- tell Ryan [Murphy], you guys write me somethin'!" she told Falchuk. "I wasn't kidding, I had him in a choke-hold," she joked on 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC). A few months later, she got the call.
But before Jones started acting, she was a professional arm wrestler. Seriously. After winning her 15th world title in 1997, she appeared on 'Tonight' and soundly beat the late-night host in her trade. Jay Leno had the proof.
News Roundup: Ryan Murphy Confirms Chord Overstreet Will Not Play Kurt's Boyfriend, Paris Hilton Gets a New Show and More
by Jean Bentley, posted Sep 30th 2010 6:00PM
Ryan Murphy finally put an end to the speculation about Kurt's new boyfriend on 'Glee' -- well, sort of.We finally know once and for all that new cast member Chord Overstreet will NOT be the lucky guy. Show creator Ryan Murphy told E! Online that "It's definitely not Chord." But it could be the just-cast character that actor Darren Criss will play. Or not. "The new character is certainly an option. I'm not sure how soon I want to [reveal] that information because it's such a big storyline of the year -- I want there to be some surprises."
However, judging from Murphy's description of the character, we're guessing the odds of him being the one are high. "Darren has a major, major arc," he said. "He sort of becomes Kurt's mentor and then maybe love-he had to leave his own school because of bullying and goes to an all-boys academy and finds acceptance because that school has a no-bullying, zero-tolerance policy. So Kurt really admires him and respects him. He plays someone who's one year older than Chris' character, so he's the old pro."
