Actors in Limbo: Second Position Pilot Role Breakdown

by Chris Harnick, posted Mar 5th 2011 11:00AM
Becki Newton, Martin HendersonWhat do Martin Henderson, Becki Newton, Ryan Hansen and Rachelle Lefevre have in common? Well, they're all actors with pilot roles in second position to their current series gigs.

It's not strange for an actor to a take a pilot role in second position to a ratings-challenged series. However, what's pretty strange is both Lefevre and Henderson currently star in 'Off the Map' and have both been tapped for NBC's 'The Crossing.'

According to Deadline, the post-Civil War drama will see Henderson as Jason, a soldier who treks across the country and winds up in a town that welcomes him as a savior. Lefevre will play a war widow in the Missouri town Henderson's character settles in.

Does NBC know something we don't? Are they just not that into 'The Crossing' or do they just really love 'Off the Map'? We may never know.

Jimmy SmitsOn the heels of 'Law & Order's' cancellation, NBC announced today that it has picked up four new series for next season -- three dramas and one comedy -- and will be parting ways with newbie medical dramas 'Mercy' and 'Trauma.'

Among the dramas headed to the Peacock net is 'The Cape,' starring 'ER's' David Lyons as a policeman who is framed for a series of murders and is forced to go into hiding. 'Party Down' - 'Jackal Onassis Backstage Party' Recap (Season Premiere)

by Chris Harnick, posted Apr 23rd 2010 10:30PM

(S2E01) Lydia: "Me and Escapade left him back in Wapato." Casey: "Escapade? That's your ... car?" Lydia: "My daughter, the future star."

It's hard watching 'Party Down' knowing that this show will likely not be back for a third season. But, set aside all the casting news -- virtually all of the cast is committed to new pilots and series star Adam Scott is going to 'Parks and Recreation' -- and 'Party Down' is just as enjoyable as it was last season. The writing remains sharp and quick, while the sardonic wit that makes this show so special continues to flourish.

The season 2 premiere finds the caterers backstage at a concert of the fictional rocker Jackal Onassis (Jimmi Simpson). Henry (Adam Scott) has been promoted to team leader and Ron (Ken Marino) is no longer with the team, but runs into them at the concert. Kyle (Ryan Hansen) and Roman (Martin Starr) are still there, not finding much success in their careers yet.

Mullally is replacing Jane Lynch, whose role as Sue Sylvester on Glee has been bumped up from recurring character to series regular. She plays "Lydia Dunfree, who leaves her small town and her failed marriage to help her 13-year-old daughter Escapade achieve her dream of becoming an actress. In addition to working as a cater-waiter for Party Down, Lydia is looking for Mr. Right."
