The It's a Paycheck Award nominees

by Debra McDuffee, posted May 28th 2008 3:24PM
TV Squad Awards logoHere it is, the moment you've all been waiting for ... drumroll, please ... the announcement of The It's a Paycheck Award nominees. The esteemed actors who have been carefully chosen as nominees for this award have shown themselves to be most worthy movie actors slumming it on TV.

Now people, some of the comments on the intro post intimated that you all took this award slightly more seriously than it was intended. Being on TV certainly isn't really slumming it in this era; however, the actors that made the cut showed an interesting, shall we say, transition from movies to TV. Here they are in alphabetical order:

1. Alec Baldwin (30 Rock)
Wait a minute, how could Alec Baldwin get nominated for this award? He's been on TV for years! This is true, but no one does it better than Baldwin. Like most actors seem to, he started in TV, doing soap operas. He became known for serious roles on the big screen, like in Hunt for Red October, Malice, and Glengarry Glen Ross. When the box office career just wasn't as lucrative as it had been, Baldwin reinvented himself as a comedic actor. Since he had been making fun of himself on Saturday Night Live for years, it sure wasn't a stretch. 30 Rock marks a defining comedic role for Baldwin.

The It's a Paycheck Award: Call for considerations

by Debra McDuffee, posted May 21st 2008 11:20AM
TV Squad Awards logoWelcome to another installment of the TV Squad Awards, where you get to learn all about another category in our esteemed competition. The It's A Paycheck Award will go to the best movie actor slumming it on TV.

Sounds simple, right? If you think like I do, this one's got Rob Lowe written all over it. The 1980s had Rob Lowe starring in major box office hits: St. Elmo's Fire, Youngblood, About Last Night. One dirty movie scandal and the career is over until the big TV comeback with West Wing, and he's still slumming it today on Brothers and Sisters.

Speaking of Brothers and Sisters, Sally Field is another potential nominee for this award. Two Oscars and then off to TV Land?

Holly Hunter made the leap with Saving Grace this season, and how about Minnie Driver, whose stint on Will and Grace led to today's The Riches? These few examples only touch the tip of the iceberg of the actors fit for nomination in this category.

The only requirements to qualify as a nominee would be that the actor slummed it on TV during the 2007-2008 season. Who do you think would make a good nominee for The It's a Paycheck Award?
