Paula Abdul: 'You're no Sanjaya!'

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Apr 19th 2007 2:34PM
Paula AbdulOn American Idol, Paula is the "sweet one." However, she wasn't so "sweet" on a recent Southwest Airlines flight from San Jose to Burbank, California. "She pulled a major diva trip," according to someone on the plane.

Paula annoyed her fellow passengers by demanding first-class treatment on a sold-out flight that didn't even have a first-class section. She tried to get special boarding treatment (reserved for those flying with young children, people with disabilities, and the elderly), declaring, "I'm famous! I need to go on first!"

Laughter erupted from fellow passengers after one of them shouted at her: "You're no Sanjaya! You have to board like everyone else."

After she finally boarded the plane, Paula reportedly kept her head down, and appeared to be "twitchy."

Martina McBride mentors Top 7 Idol contestants during country week

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Apr 16th 2007 6:04PM
Martina McBrideThis week, Martina McBride will be coaching the remaining seven Idol finalists with their country music selections. McBride, considered the "Celine Dion of country music," will also perform her Top-5 single "Anyway" during Wednesday's live results show (April 18) on FOX.

Oh boy, this is going to be a rough week for me. I'm not much of a country music fan, so the songs aren't going to be familiar (unless they all perform Shania Twain or Faith Hill). The contestants already butchered Latin-themed music last week, under the guidance of Jennifer Lopez. But, I have a feeling that this week could be worse.

American Idol: Live Results Show #8

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Apr 11th 2007 11:23PM
Jennifer Lopez performs on American Idol(S06E29) They certainly did cram in a lot of stuff in tonight's episode, didn't they? Wow, my head is still spinning. As much as I complain about the hour-long results show giving us way too much unnecessary filler, I felt they did their best tonight to at least keep the show entertaining. And I appreciate that, even though it may have been a bit too much.

Besides, don't they know all we really want is the RESULTS. Enough with the tease. Let us have it! How many of you skipped the festivities, TiVo'd the thing, and then fast forwarded to the very end?

Me, I watched the whole thing. Of course, I had to. It's my job. But whether you watched it all, or zipped to the end, the results were the same. Someone went home tonight -- and it wasn't Sanjaya.

American Idol: Top 8 Finalists

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Apr 10th 2007 10:44PM
Melinda Doolittle(S06E28) So who exactly thought a Latin-themed night was a good idea for American Idol? I fully expected tonight's performances to be painful. However, I really didn't expect Sanjaya to sing in Spanish and give one of the better performances of the night. Unbelievable. Just when you think Idol has no more surprises left, you witness something truly shocking.

Jennifer Lopez, looking rather svelte, took time out from her busy schedule to mentor the finalists and help them find the passion in the Latin-themed music. Unfortunately, not many of them truly found their inner Latin beat. J.Lo excitedly gushed that she watches American Idol at home, and she does have her favorites. Yeah, so we've heard.

Gina wasn't prepared to leave Idol

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Apr 9th 2007 12:15PM
Gina GlocksenIn her exit interview, Idol's resident rocker, Gina Glocksen, claims she had no idea she would be going home last Wednesday night.

Gina says, "I thought that I had a really good performance on Tuesday, and I was really proud of the song that I chose and the way that I chose to present it."

Until last week, Gina's fans had kept her safely above the bottomfeeders . Gina says, "I didn't even have a chance to be in the bottom three ever, and the one time that I was, I'm going home. So it was pretty hard."

American Idol: Live Results Show #7

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Apr 4th 2007 10:33PM
Gina Glocksen says farewell(S06E27) We are slowly inching our way closer to the grand finale, which means that another finalist has to go home tonight. I know, it's sad, but this is the only way we'll get closer to crowning a new American Idol.

Tonight, the finalists are separated into three different groups of three on stage. One group is the Best Three, one is the Middle Three, and one is the Bottom Three. And looking at the breakdown, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess which group is which.

How much Idol is too much Idol?

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Mar 28th 2007 3:23PM
The Idol judgesWell, Yippee. Just when I thought we were half way through the season, and my job would be getting slightly easier (Yay for half hour results shows!) the Idol producers decide to see just how much they can push their baby, by adding even more one-hour shows to the schedule.

The producers claim that they are making the switch to one-hour results shows a month earlier than expected because there hasn't even been enough time for the booted singers to perform their farewell songs on air during the crammed 30-minute editions.

When faux-hawks frustrate the 'Idol' system

by Jon Peter Lewis, posted Mar 28th 2007 1:19PM

Jon Peter LewisIt's amazing what a great set of songs will do for the show. I use the word "great" loosely since most of the songs sung on Idol were chart-toppers at one point or another. I suppose The Police, The Pretenders and The Cure are more the kind of thing that I'd go pay money to see in concert. So, for me, tonight was a good one. Thanks Gwen for having great taste in music.

Musical taste can't save some, though. Just when I thought what's-his-name was finally going away, once again he's found a way to set office break rooms a buzz with his faux-hawk worthy of the West Village on Halloween night --not that there's anything wrong with it. There's a future in freakiness -- just not in singing. Not for him anyway.

American Idol: Live Results Show #5

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Mar 21st 2007 10:30PM
Stephanie Edwards and Chris Richardson(S06E23) So, 30 million votes were cast last night. And here's what we're told:
  • Phil, Melinda, and Blake ARE NOT the bottom three.
  • Chris S, LaKisha, Jordin ARE also NOT in the bottom three.
  • Sanjaya, Haley, Gina? Nope, NOT the bottom three.
Which only means one thing:
  • Chris R and Stephanie ARE the bottom two.
It also means that Sanjaya IS in the Top 10 and will join the Idols on tour. Is this a victory for Vote for the Worst and Howard Stern? Or is it really a victory for the Idol producers who can now count on Sanjaya's teenybopper fans shelling out loads of cash to see him live and in concert?

Prediction: Haley and Sanjaya won't make Idol Top 12

by Geoff Bennett, posted Mar 8th 2007 5:40PM
Haley ScarnatoSo it turns out we were half right last week. Though Sanjaya and Antonella inexplicably stayed on for another round, we totally called AJ and Alaina getting booted off the show.

As for this week ... drumroll, please ... Antonella and Haley are the two getting cut tonight, according to AOL users who took the American Idol Top 24 Ranking Poll. As one would imagine, Melinda is in the lead among the girls.

Now for the guys: Sanjaya is definitely getting the axe, according to poll results. And it's too close to call between Phil and Jared, but one of them will not be making the Top 12. Blake and Chris Sligh should breathe easy -- those two are leading the pack.

It's not too late to throw your support behind your favorite contestant. Rank you favorite guy or girl and tune in tonight for the results.
