According to 'USA Today,' Lauren and Scotty will each perform one song chosen for them by their personal musical hero. Specific details haven't been released yet, but we do know that Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood chose one for Lauren, and that the legendary George Strait picked out Scotty's.

'American Idol' Reveals Its Top 2: Who Went Home? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 20th 2011 12:08AM
Top Three, 'American Idol'It's been a long season, and in the end it's come down to two teenage country singers and one bluesy girl with a rocker heart on 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX). All three of them got to visit their hometowns and sing their hearts out on three songs last night.

FOX was so excited about the record number of votes they recorded for this stage of the competition that they put out a press release touting it Thursday morning, which stole a little thunder from Ryan Seacrest's announcement that 'Idol' pulled in 95 million votes.

Of course, with the addition of online voting this season, shouldn't they be expected to reach new records each week in the voting? But it's not how many votes they racked up that mattered. It's who got the most votes. Which two move on to next week's finalists?

'American Idol' airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8PM ET on FOX.

Josh Turner Surprised Scotty McCreery During His 'American Idol' Home Visit (VIDEO)

Josh Turner & Scotty McCreery, 'American Idol'Every season, one of the most heartwarming episodes on 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX) is when the top finalists get to go home for that amazingly warm welcome from their hometown communities. With such young finalists this season, it was overwhelming for the likes of 17-year old Scotty McCreery.

At one point, he simply broke down in the limousine from the constant stream of love and support he was getting. Later, he about lost it completely when country star Josh Turner surprised him on stage with the song 'Your Man.' Scotty turned the opening lines of that song into his signature phrase early in the competition.

"I've only lived about 17 years so far, but this might just be the best day of my life," Of course, he hadn't received the results of the Top 3 voting yet. If he made the finals and got a chance to sing for the title of 'American Idol,' there's another day that might vie for best.

Scotty McCreery Makes His Father Proud on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 19th 2011 1:17AM
Scotty McCreery, 'American Idol'With a special two-hour episode tonight, 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX) took a little extra time to talk to some of the finalist's families out in the audience. Particular attention was paid to the youngest contestants and their parents.

After Scotty McCreery got rave reviews for tackling Kenny Rogers' 'She Believes in Me,' Ryan Seacrest threw it out to his dad in the audience to get a handle on what it's like as the father of a teenage boy to see your son competing at this level.

"Words really can't describe how proud we all are of him," his father said in a low voice much like his famous son's.

'American Idol' Top Three Revealed: Who Was Eliminated? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 13th 2011 12:31AM
Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson, 'American Idol'Top Four has been an odd time in 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX) history. As Ryan Seacrest pointed out at the close of the performance episode, it was at this point in the competition that Chris Daughtry was eliminated back in Season 5.

Other fourth-place finishers include Tamyra Gray, Josh Gracin, LaToya London, Jason Castro and Allison Iraheta, so it doesn't mean the end of the road. Sure, only Daughtry came out of it with a monster career so far, but many of these people have been able to go on and make music their career in some way.

Girls were the first five eliminated, but since then Lauren and Haley have outlasted four guys in a row. Could they continue their streak and send Scotty or James home, or would the boys make a comeback. It's such a tight field this season, it was difficult to predict what might happen.

Lady Gaga Proves a Bit Too Much for Scotty McCreery on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 11th 2011 11:40PM
Lady Gaga & Scotty McCreery, 'American Idol'Jimmy Iovine summed it up best on 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX) when he said, "Scotty McCreery. Lady Gaga. I couldn't think of a better fit."

The two are coming from such opposite ends of the spectrum, it was bound to be uncomfortable when they collided during Gaga's mentor stint this week. McCreery did a lot of awkward laughing, smiling and doing the best he could to look anywhere but directly at Gaga. Apparently, that's just too much for him to handle.

Gaga lost him with her advice as well, telling him to think of the microphone as his girlfriend. "Keep your mouth on that microphone like your life depends on it or that b**** gonna leave you."

'American Idol' Top Five Results: Which Contestant Was Eliminated? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 6th 2011 12:40AM
Top Five Elimination, 'American Idol'It's down to the wire now on 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX). With only five contestants left, each of them had two solo performances last night. For most of them, this proved to be a blessing as they were able to nail at least one of their songs.

Haley Reinhart had a shaky start, according to the judges, with an unreleased Lady Gaga song. But she closed the show with an amazing take on 'The House of the Rising Sun.' Scotty opened strong with 'Gone,' but wasn't as strong on his second number.

James lost himself in the emotions a bit in his second song, which could have hurt or helped him with viewers. Lauren held back a bit on 'Unchained Melody,' while Jacob floundered a lot on 'No Air.' With so many hits and misses, it was anyone's week to lose.

Who Was Voted Off 'American Idol'? (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 29th 2011 5:00AM
Casey and Scotty on 'American Idol'And then there were five. Thursday night's 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on Fox) was an elimination night, and it came down to Casey Abrams and Scott McCreery in the bottom two. McCreery had chosen to sing 'You've Got a Friend' by James Taylor, and Abrams a more obscure tune, 'Hi-De-Ho' by Blood, Sweat, & Tears, in the elimination round.

Song choice could have made the difference, as Abrams, ever the fuzzy individualist, was sent packing. But he went out in style, singing 'I Put a Spell on You,' a song originally written and performed by the highly theatrical Screamin' Jay Hawkins.

Abrams hugged the judges, played to the audience, and directed some of the song to Haley Reinhart, which should only serve to feed the rumors that the two are romantically linked. Hopefully Abrams will now find a record deal that will allow him to grow in his left-of-the-mainstream tastes and impressive musical talent.

'American Idol': Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery Take It 'Up on the Roof' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 28th 2011 12:30AM
Lauren Alaina & Scotty McCreery, 'American Idol'To help pad their 90-minute running time, the producers of 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX) added duets to this week's performance episode.

While Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart got to add fuel to the speculation that they're dating, and Jacob Lusk and James Durbin proved that two big voices don't always come together smoothly, the young country crooners were a natural fit.

Scotty McCreery took second voice, according to Jennifer Lopez, behind Lauren Alaina on 'Up on the Roof.' After being encouraged to push herself vocally, Lauren did just that this week and we were impressed with her power and control in the upper register.

'American Idol's' Scotty McCreery Gets His Elvis On! (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 7th 2011 12:42AM
Scotty McCreary, 'American Idol'Scotty McCreery reached a little deeper into his repertoire, without heading into alien territory for the country crooner on 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX). With the theme based around the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, McCreery went with a song that became Elvis Presley's first single, 'That's Alright, Mama.'

First recorded by blues singer Arthur Crudup, the song was a natural fit for McCreery's vocal style, and he even added a little blues swagger to his vocal presentation. Or was that a little bit of something else?

"Do you watch rap, or hip-hop, or anything like that," Jennifer Lopez asked him. "Because I feel a little bit of flavor in there!"
