If you've ever wondered what 'Castle' star Nathan Fillion does on his days off, wonder no more. He apparently makes movies in secret with his erstwhile 'Firefly' boss, Joss Whedon.

According to 'The Wrap,' Whedon adapted, cast and filmed a new indie version of William Shakespeare's 'Much Ado About Nothing' this summer without anyone finding out until after it was finished.

A website went up Sunday night announcing that principal photography has been completed on the guerrilla filmmaking project, which is lightheartedly described as "A Film by Joss Whedon Based on a Play."

The cast is a veritable smorgasbord of Whedon faves: As well as Fillion there's Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof from 'Angel' and 'Dollhouse,' and Sean Maher ('Firefly'). Although it could all be an elaborate hoax, we're already loving the idea of Acker and Denisof re-teaming to tackle the roles of reluctant lovers Beatrice and Benedick.

Sean Maher, currently appearing in NBC's 'The Playboy Club,' is opening up about his sexuality. The actor broke his silence to Entertainment Weekly, discussing his sexuality for the first time.

A father of two with his partner of nine years, Maher said he wanted to use his role as a closeted gay on 'The Playboy Club' to come out of the closet himself.

"I was working on other stuff, and then this role came up, which was like a light bulb going off," Maher said. "I was like, This is perfect. I want to do this, and I want to use it as a platform to come out."

No runaway trains or upside down planes this week. Instead, Chance crashed the Russian Embassy and teamed up with a sexy FBI agent to catch his friend's killer.

This was a great episode. It had all the elements of a taut big screen thriller, plus some excellent action and a few welcome quirky character moments. I've only seen three episodes, but I'm already hooked on Human Target. I'm ready to follow Chance to the end of the season and beyond. Here's hoping that Fox (killer of all things that make me happy) has similar plans.

It looks like Human Target is set on delivering plenty of stand-alone episodes with only hints at a greater story arc. I'm a big fan of shows that offer complicated arcs that stretch out over several seasons, but that's clearly not what's happening here.

OK, so The Mentalist is starting to hit some of the formula plots that all shows eventually get to. This one was the "someone is making a documentary about CBI and each person is interviewed and we learn more about them" episode. I could have done without it. I'd rather they concentrate on the main mystery rather than mix in this subplot. Or maybe the reason they had this documentary being filmed was because without it the mystery wouldn't have been as interesting.

The good news? It was better than The Office clip show we had tonight. The bad news? It didn't quite work.

When I first started exploring this project, there were a few shows that I knew were going to be important to hit. This is the first of those. Firefly was Joss Whedon's sci-fi western series. The show mustered disappointing ratings in its short eleven-episode run on FOX.

Since then it's gone on to near mythic cult status. There was such an outcry of support from its loyalists, the Browncoats, over its cancellation that the producers made a feature film sequel. That movie, Serenity, answered a lot of questions about the future fate of the cast. Unfortunately, like the television series, it couldn't find quite enough people to show up and tune in to warrant a sequel. Nevertheless, the few morsels of Firefly we did get are enough to prove that this is one of the most innovative and enjoyable series ever to hit the airwaves.

I'm almost to the end of Firefly, my Jane After Dark readers' choice for this week. I really love this series, from the quirky characters to the general theme of a band of renegades burgling their way through the universe.

But even though it's set 500 years in the future, Firefly isn't your typical sci-fi space series that includes all manner of aliens and weird creatures. They're on a spaceship, and yet they rob trains. How cool is that?! It's like Alias Smith and Jones meets Babylon 5.

As with the other Whedon shows I've watched – Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel – the stories are fun and deep and fanciful (yes, I said fanciful), but it's the characters and their interactions that make the shows.

Do you ever get the feeling that someone is trying to squeeze every penny out of Firefly fans? Yeah, me too.

Titan Books, which published a companion book to Serenity, is preparing a companion book to the Firefly television series. Creator Joss Whedon wrote the introduction to the Serenity companion, which features the original script to the movie, storyboards, production notes and behind-the-scenes stuff. No word on whether Joss will endorse the new book. Firefly: The Official Companion is scheduled for release this summer.

The news service over at Sci Fi channel has an interview with Loni Peristere, visual-effects supervisor for Serenity, who reveals how to find the easter egg on the DVD. Here's how:

If I were fellow blogger Keith, I would be writing this article from a totally different angle. I would probably be doing cartwheels at the thought of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, written and directed by Joss Whedon. Alas, I missed the boat when it came to Buffy, so today's news breaks my heart. An article in the latest Entertainment Weekly with Joss Whedon says he has come to terms with the fact that there won't be any more Firefly movies.  Serenity only made $25 million in the United States and it's not yet clear how well the DVD will do (it went on sale this week). But, that amount of money isn't enough for Universal to launch a franchise of films. Sigh.
