Jimmy Kimmel wins post-Oscar slot

by Julia Ward, posted Dec 19th 2006 7:04PM
Jimmy KimmelJimmy Kimmel is getting another boost from ABC - this time with a special edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live to appear immediately following the Academy Awards in February. Kimmel's outing in the same slot last year raised his overall ratings substantially. While late night is still very much a two-man race between Letterman and Leno, ABC is 100% behind Kimmel, who they've also signed to host upcoming game show outing Set for Life.

Maybe Kimmel can jump networks when Conan takes Leno's slot in 2009. He's got a great team of alternative comedy writers that include the very funny Morgan Murphy, and he's stolen Conan's indie credibility in respect to musical guests having snagged artists like MIA and Lily Allen when they were still just gleams in Stereogum's eye. ABC is smart to stick with Kimmel. I think he's underrated, or maybe I'm just saying that because he dates Sarah Silverman.

Jimmy Kimmel to host the American Music Awards again

by Joel Keller, posted Sep 27th 2006 8:29PM
Jimmy KimmelJimmy Kimmel really is the hardest working man in show biz, isn't he? The late-night talk show host and former TV Squad interview subject has been named host of the American Music Awards for the third time.

In the press release announcing the move, Kimmel responds in a sentence that's confident and self-deprecating at once, "I am very happy to have been asked to return as host of the American Music Awards and graciously accept ABCs apology for snubbing me last year."

Remember that Kimmel is also set to host an ABC game show called Set for Life, is a "creative consultant" on buddy Adam Carolla's radio show, and produces shows like Crank Yankers and The Andy Milonakis Show. He makes Ryan Seacrest look like a lazy bastard, doesn't he?

Jimmy Kimmel, game show host

by Adam Finley, posted Aug 22nd 2006 6:01PM
jimmy kimmelJimmy Kimmel, after leaving radio to become Ben Stein's first (and best) sidekick on Win Ben Stein's Money, is getting back into the game show racket for ABC's Set for Life. ABC has issued a press release for the game show, which is slated to air later this season, but they don't actually say what the game show will entail, other than that the winner will receive monthly payouts for the rest of their lives. I think a cool ironic twist would be to secretly poison the contestants so the rest of their life would only be one month. Then Kimmel could cackle wildly while flames shot out of the stage behind him. We'll see if they use my suggestion or not. Oh yeah, and fans of Kimmel's late night talk show needn't worry, he'll still be doing that, too.
