It's Official: 'Sex and the City' Prequel Series Heading to The CW

'The Carrie Diaries'Had a hard time coming to terms with life without 'Sex and the City?' Ever wonder what Carrie wore in high school? If so, great news: The prequel series to 'SATC' is on track to hit TV screens in fall 2012.

Rumors have been swirling all summer, but according to 'Entertainment Weekly' it's a go.

Execs over at The CW are reportedly hammering out the final details on a deal to produce a new series based on 'The Carrie Diaries,' Candace Bushnell's young adult novels about the adventures of the pre-New York Carrie Bradshaw.

The new series will be produced by 'Gossip Girl' executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who will exec produce along with former 'Sex and the City' writer/co-producer Amy B. Harris, Bushnell and Len Goldstein. Harris will also write the adaptation.

The Carrie DiariesThe 'Sex and the City' rumors continue to swirl. The latest batch find the rumored prequel series making a home on The CW.

According to Deadline, the previously reported adaptation of Candace Bushnell's 'The Carrie Diaries' is in contention at the teen-oriented network. There are no deals in place and the report indicates talks are in very early stages. Warner Bros. TV would produce the series and 'Gossip Girl' masterminds Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage may come on board to shepherd the series. Amy Harris, a former 'Sex and the City' writer, is currently writing 'Gossip Girl' and may pen 'The Carrie Diaries' adaptation.

"Discussions are underway for 'The Carrie Diaries,' Candace Bushnell's book about Carrie Bradshaw's high school years, to find a home as a potential television series," HBO said in a statement.

Sex and the City castCarrie Bradshaw in high school? Yes, Candace Bushnell has written the books, 'The Carrie Diaries' and 'Summer in the City,' but they may be heading to the small screen.

According to the Los Angeles Times, HBO is contemplating a 'Sex and the City' prequel based on Bushnell's books. 'The Carrie Diaries,' set in the 1980s, follows Carrie Bradshaw during her senior year of high school and her beginnings in New York City. Samantha Jones is the only other 'Sex and the City' character to appear in the novel.

Rumors of a prequel movie based on the hit HBO series starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall began flying in early August with some of Hollywood's famous starlets reportedly filling out the cast.
