Daniel Tosh Presents the High Toilet to the 'Shark Tank' on 'Tosh.0' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 25th 2011 3:39AM
The Hight Toilet, 'Tosh.0'While we're pretty sure you won't be seeing Daniel Tosh on 'Shark Tank' any time soon, we couldn't help but laugh at the invention he presented to the judges on a sketch for 'Tosh.0' (Tue., 10PM ET on Comedy Central).

As you'd expect from Tosh, it was toilet humor at its best ... and we actually mean that quite literally. If that kind of thing makes you squeamish, you might want to move on to another article right about now.

Dubbed the High Toilet, Tosh's invention was designed to virtually eliminate the potential splashback from a bowel movement. And yes, he went into rather graphic detail at this point. We loved his bravado at jumping onto the toilet and dropping his pants to demonstrate the product, and were even more grateful that it didn't go quite that far.

Mark Burnett on Donald Trump, 'The Voice' & Why 'Survivor' Survives

by Joel Keller, posted May 20th 2011 2:30PM
Mark BurnettMark Burnett was in a bit of a feisty mood yesterday. It's understandable, given the combination of controversy and great ratings that have been attached to some of the reality shows he produces lately. He's got three currently on the air.

First, there's 'The Celebrity Apprentice,' which is steaming towards its live finale (Sunday, May 22, 9PM ET on NBC), with John Rich and Marlee Matlin facing off for the right to be "hired" by Donald Trump. The show has been renewed for a fifth celebrity season; Trump also recently decided not to run for President, but not without leaving months of new material for late night talk shows in his wake.

Then there's 'The Voice,' which is gaining momentum after a strong start, with the combination of talented singers and red hot judges (Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton) keeping people tuning in.

But when we spoke, we started with his most venerable show, 'Survivor,' which just ended its 22nd season on Sunday. We talked about the decision to bring back 'Redemption Island' for season 23, then moved on to a question that seemed like it would be innocent. His reaction was anything but ...

by Aimee Deeken, posted Mar 21st 2011 5:00AM
James Turns Down 'Shark Tank' DealOn the season premiere of 'Shark Tank' (Sun., 9PM ET on ABC), James has a "grand slam" invention: wine by the glass. Self-proclaimed "eco-preneur" Kevin O'Leary offers him a deal in exchange for a 51 percent stake in the company. James turns it down and counters with a request for $3 million.

"Forget it. Not a chance," Kevin says promptly. Game over. Kevin is shocked but says, "I'll never remember [the deal] again, and I won't care because there's a million opportunities that will come to me tomorrow. This was your moment. When you turn around, it's gone."

After James leaves, Kevin tells his fellow entrepreneurs: "The guy needed me to get focused on what really mattered ... He's a dead man walking. Just another deal."

'Skins' Loses Sixth Sponsor, MTV Orders Dan Savage Show and More

by Jean Bentley, posted Jan 24th 2011 6:00PM
SkinsSurprise, surprise: 'Skins' lost another sponsor.

Schick Hydro announced today that it would pull its ads from the controversial series "because some of this show's content is not aligned with Schick corporate guidelines," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Subway announced earlier today that it would yank its ads, following GM and Wrigley over the weekend and Taco Bell on Friday.

British executive Steve Morrison of All3Media, the company behind 'Skins,' said he stands behind the show. "On 'Skins,' I really have no idea specifically why advertisers are pulling out. But we stand behind what MTV has said and done about the hoopla," Morrison told THR. "The show in our view explores real world issues in a frank, responsible and legal way."

What to Watch: January 11 - 17

by Stephanie Earp, posted Jan 11th 2010 1:11AM

NCIS - Tuesday January 12, 8 pm, Global/CBS

Tonight, the 150th episode of 'NCIS' airs, and it strikes me that it's about time I watched this show. It always seemed like an unlikely hit to me. As a spin-off of 'JAG', it seemed hopelessly old-fashioned, and I was busy watching Grissom on 'CSI'. But Grissom has gone the way of the dodo, and now 'NCIS' is a ratings hit, an award-winner and has a spin-off of its very own in 'NCIS: Los Angeles.' But I do think it's interesting that the big guest star tonight is Robert Wagner, who was born in 1930. Now that's old-fashioned.

NBC cooks up a new food reality show with a big prize

by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 19th 2009 2:30PM
nbc_logo_colorOkay, take the idea of Shark Tank (or Dragon's Den if you're a BBC America fan), mix it with the Top Chef folks, offer a great grand prize and hope for the best. That's the recipe behind NBC's new food competition show, United Plates of America. The network is turning to the Magical Elves from Top Chef -- no, seriously, that's the production company's name -- to succeed in the food field where NBC has flopped in the past. Remember The Chopping Block? Remember Rocco DiSpirito's The Restaurant? NBC has more luck with the dieters on The Biggest Loser.

This go-round is not about a single restaurant. It's about a chain of restaurants. To me, that's a questionable goal. Most successful chains start off with one great restaurant and then take off. This concept is go big or go home. Maybe it's more complicated, but it doesn't sound that way.

What I like about the new season (so far)

by Bob Sassone, posted Oct 10th 2009 3:02PM
FlashForward
There are still a couple of new shows that haven't premiered yet, including two I'm really looking forward to, ABC's new version of V and FOX's new version of The Human Target (I know, I'm actually looking forward to two remakes). But they're not going to premiere until November and January, respectively, so here are my picks for the three new shows that I'm truly enjoying so far this new season. And somehow, they're all on ABC.

FlashForward. I bet a lot of people are going to pick this as the best new show, but I was kinda worried about it. I thought it would be too Lost-ish, but would suffer in comparison because it didn't have the strong cast and "gravitas" that Lost has. But it's a great show beyond any comparisons (and Dominic Monaghan hasn't even shown up yet!).
