Shaun White Jokes That He Got Serious Air in a Rally Car Stunt (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 27th 2011 3:36AM
Shaun White is pretty excited about this partnership he has underway with BF Goodrich. They're teaching him how to be a race car driver. But White will always be a board guy, which means tricks. So he told Jay Leno on 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC) about one he performed recently in a rally car.He talked about some of the stunts he'd done, including getting some air once. When Leno asked him how much air we're talking about, White responded, "It felt pretty big. I went pretty far. I mean, I was flooring it."
Sounds impressive, right? Well, Leno had the footage, and obviously the experience inside the car was a little different to what the camera saw from the outside. We particularly enjoyed the "slo-mo" take, so we wouldn't miss a second of his aerial maneuvers!
D'oh! Shaun White on His Father's TV-Inspired Nickname (VIDEO)
by Donald Deane, posted Feb 25th 2010 3:30PM
Olympic gold medalist Shaun White reportedly disliked his nickname "The Flying Tomato" so much that he dubbed himself "The Animal" instead. And now, he's had a chance to turn the tables by nicknaming his father after a well-known 'Simpsons' character, he said on 'The Rachael Ray Show' (weekdays, syndicated). "He's like every other dad. He didn't really like his job too much and he was always at home on the couch having a couple of beers after work," White said. "We started calling him 'Homer' because he reminds us of 'The Simpsons.'"

Snowboarder Shaun White Reveals the Secret to His Success (VIDEO)
by Donald Deane, posted Feb 23rd 2010 4:00PM
Olympic gold medal champion Shaun White has been snowboarding for so long that it's practically second nature, he said on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC). But, mastering an extreme sport doesn't make him an expert at something like the simple act of walking. "My parents and family laugh because I'll do some crazy stuff on a skateboard and then trip running up the stairs," White said. "Being in that stance ... it's what I do. It just feels comfortable to me. I started skiing when I was 4 and then switched to snowboarding at 6."

Shaun White's Theory on Why Figure Skaters Cry (VIDEO)
by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 23rd 2010 2:38AM
It's the question we've all been wondering about, and Stephen Colbert asked it on 'The Colbert Report' (weeknights, 11:30 PM ET on COM). Why do the figure skaters burst into tears after learning they've won a gold medal at the 'XXI Winter Olympics,' and yet the snowboarders like Shaun White are tear-free?
White has a theory on that. "I imagine that they've gotta be sitting there like, 'Man, I wore this outfit and I still didn't even win.'" Yeah, that's what we thought.

Oprah Swipes Shaun White from 'The Early Show'
by Danny Gallagher, posted Feb 22nd 2010 10:00PM
Did it seem weird to anyone else that Oprah Winfrey managed to score the first big interview with Olympic wonderboy Shaun White? That's because her awesome Oprah powers allowed her to scoop the entire mainstream media. Actually, CBS' 'Early Show' had plans to do a remote interview with the snowboarder, but Oprah's people snatched it away from them in the zero hour.
One of the network's news producers wrote on her blog that she had everything from flights to remote broadcasts set up to interview White following his medal ceremony, but "it's tough to compete with Oprah and a private plane."

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 22nd 2010 5:50PM
Jay Leno will be back behind the desk (yes the desk is coming back! and the couch!) on NBC's 'The Tonight Show' when the show returns after the Olympics are over (March 1, next Monday). So who will Jay have as guests his first big week back? Why, Steve Guttenberg and Carrot Top, of course!Well, OK, actually he has some bigger names than that. The guests his first week are Jamie Foxx, Lindsey Vonn, and Brad Paisley (Monday), Sarah Palin and Shaun White (Tuesday), the cast of 'Jersey Shore,' Chelsea Handler, Apollo Ohno, and Avril Lavigne (Wednesday), Matthew McConaughey and Jason Reitman (Thursday), and Morgan Freeman and Meredith Vieira (Friday). Media Decoder also has his second week of guests, and they include 'American Idol's' Simon Cowell and 'Twilight's' Kristen Stewart.
No word yet on who David Letterman will have on his show next week. I know, it would be fun to see Conan but something tells me that's not going to happen yet.
Shaun White and Lindsey Vonn Dish on Gold Medals (VIDEO)
by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 21st 2010 10:25PM
Gold medal winners Shaun White and Lindsey Vonn appeared on 'Oprah Winfrey' (weekdays, syndicated) to talk about their victories at the 'XXI Winter Olympics.' Both brought home gold medals for the U.S., and each went through their own journeys to achieve it.White had the gold locked up even without his signature move, but decided to go for it anyway, even though he'd suffered an injury with it previously. "In my mind, it wasn't really an option ... I don't quit too easily."
For Vonn, the reality is still sinking in. "I can't believe I have a gold medal. It's just surreal to me ... everything that I've worked for my whole life is finally coming true. I've dreamed about that moment since I was a little girl."

Shaun White on Gold Medals, Being Single and Meeting President Obama (VIDEO)
by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 19th 2010 8:10PM
Shaun White has some awesome hair, doesn't he? Every day must be a good hair day. But even more awesome is the gold medal he won for the Men's Halfpipe at the '2010 Winter Olympics' this week. The studio audience at 'Oprah Winfrey' (weekdays, syndicated) went wild as White showed off the medal and talked about his future plans.
What we learned: 1) The medal is cut from one big piece; 2) White is single (like, when would he have time for a relationship?); and 3) He really wants to meet President Obama. We're guessing that will probably happen quite soon.

2010 Winter Olympics Snowboarding Schedule
by Elizabeth Chan, posted Feb 18th 2010 2:00AM

Did you know the first snowboard was called a "snurfer?" Perhaps combining the word snow and surfing, snowboarders rejoice every wintertime as they hit the slopes. For the Vancouver Winter Olympics the worlds best snowboarders have descended upon the Olympic slopes to win on sport's largest stage. For American snowboarder Shaun White, he continues to defend his new gold medal status in a sport that made him the highest paid snowboarder in the world.

Have you got Olympic fever? We do, and there's been plenty of special moments in Vancouver during the '2010 Winter Olympics' (daily, on NBC). Lyndsey Vonn said, "I'm not trying to be Michael Phelps. I just want a medal of any color." The USA skier got her wish after scoring a gold medal for Ladies' Downhill.

The Olympics: Day 4
by Anna Johns, posted Feb 13th 2006 12:05PM
The Russians are well on their way to winning a gold medal
in pairs figure skating tonight. After a flawless
short program, Totmiyanina and Marinin enter tonight's long program almost four full points ahead of the next team.
Also tonight is the women's halfpipe snowboarding competition. The U.S. men already claimed a gold last night, thanks
to an awesome run by Shaun White. Tonight, Americans Gretchen Bleiler, Hannah Teter and 2002 gold medalist Kelly Clark all have a good chance at getting on the
podium. Also tonight, more speed skating as American Casey FitzRandolph races in the 500m, for which he
won gold in Salt Lake City. And the American women and men each take on Norway in curling. Here's tonight's schedule on all of NBC's networks:
The Olympics: Day 3

Some big names in competition today. On the slopes, Americans
Bode Miller and Daron Rahlves hope they can hold back Austrian hot
shot Alpine Skier Hermann Maier, who is on a
mission to win since he missed the Salt Lake City games due to a motorcycle accident. Seattle native Apolo Anton Ohno (and his soul patch) go for the
gold in the same race that caused controversy in SLC when he won after a South Korean speed skater was disqualified for
interfering with Ohno during the race. But, the real spectacle of the night will hopefully be top-rated, red-haired,
American snowboarder Shaun White, a.k.a. The
Flying Tomato, as he goes for the gold on the half-pipe.Here's today's Olympic schedule:
The Five: Olympic sports worth watching
by Anna Johns, posted Feb 10th 2006 8:03AM
The winter Olympics begin
this evening with the opening ceremonies on NBC. That means, for the next two weeks, you'll hear a lot of people
chanting, "USA! USA!"Personally, I love the Olympics. I let myself get caught up in the drama and the action, even though I'm definitely not a sports fan any other time of the year. The most popular sport during the winter Olympics by far is figure skating, specifically women's or pairs skating. Here, I'm listing the other sports that I will definitely be watching:
