'America's Got Talent' Backstage Report: Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. Wins!

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 15th 2011 7:00AM
Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.Cliché as it sounds, there were only winners on last night's 'America's Got Talent' Season 6 finale.

Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., as judge Howie Mandel accurately predicted on Tuesday's performance show, won the competition and the show's $1 million prize. "I am the great predictor," Mandel quips.

Dance group Silhouettes came in second. Dance group Team iLuminate was third. Rock band POPLYFE came in fourth, but you'd never know it by the jubilation they were feeling after the show. The band members were still ecstatic over getting to perform with the legendary Stevie Wonder, an experience they'll take with them forever.

"I'll take it with me as well," Wonder told AOL TV on the post show press line. "They are a group that is committed to staying together and not letting anyone break them apart. I feel that's how we should be as a nation. I'm excited that they allowed me to be a part of their group."

'America's Got Talent' Crowns Season 6 Winner (VIDEO)

'America's Got Talent' finaleAfter a two-hour season finale that easily felt like it lasted three or four, 'America's Got Talent' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC) crowned its Season 6 winner.

Would it be another solo singing act, which seems to have dominated the past several seasons, or would one of the unique dance groups rise to the top (sorry, POPLYFE, I've already ruled you out of contention)?

Before we found out, each of the final four acts got to perform a duet. Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. perhaps surprised the most by switching up the style of song completely with a more uptempo jam with Patti LaBelle.

'America's Got Talent' Backstage Report: Is Piers Morgan Really a Big Softie?

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 14th 2011 7:00AM
Piers MorganThere were technical difficulties during the performance finale of 'America's Got Talent.' Some backstage doors wouldn't open, which prevented stage hands from removing PopLyfe's set and setting the stage for the Silhouettes.

Producers filled the air time with a pre-taped video segment featuring past auditions while things were corrected. By the time they were, the video segment showing insight into the Silhouettes had to be cut for time.

Those video segments usually feature touching stories about the acts, endearing them to viewers (and voters) in the process.

Will the Silhouettes lose votes and suffer because their segment wasn't shown?

'America's Got Talent' Performance Finale: Four Acts Battle for Victory (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 14th 2011 1:25AM
Team iLuminate, 'America's Got Talent'This is it! After months of performances, it comes down to four final acts and a battle between dance and voice on 'America's Got Talent' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC).

And yet, neither of the dance acts are what you'd expect. One, Team iLuminate, uses light-up costumes to create mind-blowing visuals on stage, while the other, the Silhouettes, creates illusions using shadow.

Both acts have blown us away in the past, but it was tough picking a favorite in this performance finale. Silhouettes went back to their more traditional shadow play, and created a rather wonderful story about a little girl going into a dreamscape. It was like watching Little Nemo in Slumberland play out on the stage before us.
