'Skating With the Stars' Cast Announced: Bethenny Frankel, Vince Neil to Compete
by Jean Bentley, posted Nov 3rd 2010 9:00AM
ABC announced the cast of its new series, 'Skating With the Stars,' on last night's episode of 'Dancing With the Stars.' The spinoff show will feature six celebrities learning how to figure skate with professionals.Competing for the title are reality star Bethenny Frankel, actresses Sean Young and Rebecca Budig, musician Vince Neil, Olympic skier Jonny Moseley and actor/rapper Brandon Mychal Smith. Their professional partners will be announced soon, and Entertainment Weekly reports that the pros "won't necessarily be household names so don't hold out for, say, a Brian Boitano or a Kristi Yamaguchi."
EW declares the all-time best and worst of reality television
by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 11th 2009 3:00PM
Considering how prevalent reality television is these days, it's got to be a pretty daunting task to try and put together a comprehensive list of the best and worst of all time. But Entertainment Weekly thinks they've done just that. They've compiled the top 20 reality shows of all time, but also the ten worst reality shows of all time. All in all, they did a pretty damned good job. I completely agree with the top six, but they lose me with Jackass at number seven. I have never understood the appeal of filming morons doing stupid things on purpose just to be stupid. But there were some shows missing from the list completely, like Little People Big World, So You Think You Can Dance and Beauty and the Geek. Surely those shows are better than The Hills and The Real Housewives of Sesame Street, or whatever franchise they're spinning now.

Celeb skater arrested for assault
by Anna Johns, posted Jun 17th 2007 7:44PM
Maybe she's just channeling Anna Nicole Smith* or something, but celebrity skater Kristy Swanson is in a bit of trouble with the mounties up in Canada. She has been arrested for allegedly attacking the ex-wife of her baby daddy, professional ice skater Lloyd Eisler. Lloyd and Kristy had a baby together back in February, which is about a year after they originally hooked up while paired up on Fox's short-lived show, Skating with Celebrities. Lloyd Eisler's wife was eight months pregnant at the time that he left her for Kristy.People magazine is reporting that Kristy actually blames Eisler's ex-wife for the altercation, though Kristy is the one who was arrested.
*Kristy's most recent gig was a guest stint on Law & Order where she played a character who was based on Anna Nicole Smith.
**UPDATE Kristy is pressing assault charges against Eisler's ex-wife. Canadian police took photos of bruises and cuts on Kristy's body. It sounds like quite a brawl. And they're fighting over this guy.
Jackson Family gets "American Idol" style talent show
by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Apr 12th 2007 7:30PM
American Idol's ratings may be down, but it is still the number one show on television. And the juggernaut has spawned all kinds of imitators, including, America's Got Talent, Dancing With the Stars, Skating With Celebrities, and Rock Star Supernova. And now, the Jackson Family is developing its own talent contest for CBS, tentatively called Pop Dynasty. Before you ask, NO, neither Janet nor Michael is involved with the show. This is Jermaine, Tito and LaToya's baby. The three Jacksons will serve as the show's judges.
Who does NBC think is going to watch "The One That I Want?"
by Brett Love, posted Dec 26th 2006 12:01PM
NBC has ramped up the promotion for their new reality show, You're The One That I Want. We've mentioned the show a couple times in the past. The short version is that contestants are going to compete for the roles of Danny and Sandy in a new production of the Grease musical. That's all well and good, but I can't help but wonder just who is going to watch that. Musical theater certainly does have a core audience, but I have a feeling that it's not big enough to measure up to the demands of prime-time network TV. I get the idea behind the show, it's got the singing of Idol and the dancing of DWTS, but that doesn't make it Idol or DWTS. We've already seen what happens when people try to clone these shows. The One and Skating with Celebrities come to mind.
Celebrity, skater expecting a baby
by Anna Johns, posted Aug 7th 2006 9:37PM
And I thought it was just a fling. Actress Kristy Swanson and figure skater Lloyd Eisler, winners of FOX's Skating With Celebrities, are expecting a baby. Kristy's due date is Valentine's Day, 2007. It's the first baby for Kristy and the third child for Lloyd Eisler. It became pretty obvious during the competition that the two had hooked up. They went from awkward to smooth in just one week. After their 'turning point' performance, Kristy got caught up in the moment and tried to kiss Lloyd on the lips but he turned and she planted one on his neck.I guess love is what makes a good pair of skaters. Or sex.
Jillian Barberie is married
by Anna Johns, posted Jul 11th 2006 5:47PM
Good Day LA host Jillian Barberie got married to her actor boyfriend over the weekend. She married Grant Reynolds, who doesn't have a photo on his very short IMDB resume so I'm not sure who the guy is. The couple held an intimate wedding ceremony in Barberie's backyard. Even her co-hosts from Good Day LA weren't invited-- she announced her marriage on the air yesterday and they were surprised. Besides her hosting duties on Good Day LA, Barberie is perhaps best known as a sideline reporter for FOX's NFL and recently she was runner-up on Skating with Celebrities. What's on tonight: new Office, Earl, Idol, Survivor, Chris, and CSI

Skating with Celebrities: Part 6 of 7
by Anna Johns, posted Feb 28th 2006 3:12PM
Part 6 of 7? You know what that means... we aren't
going to find out who the winner is until Thursday This episode was really a drag. And when I say "drag", I mean that they really dragged this one out to fill an entire hour without actually announcing the winners. The episode began with a recap of who got voted off when, and then all the skaters returned for encore performances. Todd Bridges is awkward and mechanical on the ice, reminding everybody why he was the first one to be booted off this competition. Kurt Browning is sporting a bald head? In the middle of the show all the teams resurrected previous routines that they skated, an element otherwise known as a time suck.

These two totally hooked up
by Anna Johns, posted Feb 17th 2006 8:04AM
This could explain a lot. Star Magazine and the gals on
The View are reporting that Skating with Celebrities pair Kristy Swanson and Lloyd Eisler are now an
item. On Monday's episode, these two really sizzled. Kristy seemed a lot more comfortable with Lloyd than she had in
the past episodes. She almost kissed him on the lips at the end of their routine, but he turned and she got his neck
instead. I know she's an actress, but she looked totally smitten with him during that whole routine. Whatever it was,
something changed for those two between the fourth and fifth competition. If it is true, it's not all happy. Lloyd's
wife is eight months pregnant with their second child.Skating with Celebrities: Part 5 of 7
by Anna Johns, posted Feb 14th 2006 8:56AM
We're down to three teams: Kristy Swanson and Lloyd
Eisler, Jillian Barberie and John Zimmerman, and Bruce Jenner and Tai Babilonia. I think it's pretty obvious who the
weak skaters are here, but we'll see what happens on the ice.Just a quick recap: last week we bid farewell to the not-very-graceful Dave Coulier and Nancy Kerrigan. Before that, Deborah Gibson and Kurt Browning were out, and the first team eliminated was Todd Bridges and Jenni Meno.
Does Skating with Celebrities hurt Hamilton's Olympic credibility?
by Joel Keller, posted Feb 13th 2006 10:09PM
I accidentally kept my local FOX station on after watching the "I've got hand!"
Seinfeld rerun, and noticed something odd when Skating With Celebrities came on the air: Scott
Hamilton was hosting. Since I've never watched the show, I was kind of surprised by this. I mean, he's been a skating
analyst at the Olympics for years now, and he's currently in Torino as we speak. So, at the same time we see Scott
interviewing Emily Hughes and Sasha Cohen, he'll also be introducing such figure skating luminaries as Dave Coulier and
Todd Bridges.I wonder if viewers are going to think a little less of Scott's analysis now that he's also hosting a cheesy reality show. We know NBC was a little nervous, but they added Hamilton to their Torino team, anyway. Of course, given the recent history of Olympic figure skating, maybe the FOX show is the classier gig, after all.
(Actually, I don't personally care. I just wanted to put up a photo of Hamilton with his Skating co-host, Summer Sanders. Isn't she cute?)
Skating with Celebrities: Part 4 of 7
by Anna Johns, posted Feb 7th 2006 8:06AM
Now that Deborah Gibson and Kurt Browning are gone, the
playing field seems pretty evenly matched. It looks like the remaining teams had a lot of falls during the last few
practices.Did host Scott Hamilton get taller since last week? Summer Sanders doesn't seem to tower over him as much tonight. Or, maybe I'm just used to seeing them together now so the height difference doesn't bother me as much. Well, the "witty" banter still sucks.
Let's get it on...
