Nanny Gives Salty Defense of Bethenny's 'Skating With the Stars' Effort (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Apr 19th 2011 4:00AM
Bethenny, Jason on 'Bethenny Ever After'After Bethenny Frankel's first performance on 'Skating With the Stars' last December, the judges -- and everyone else in America -- lambasted her effort. On 'Bethenny Ever After' (Mon., 10PM ET on BRAVO), she and Jason are shocked by the other contestants' scores and the many rude comments Bethenny received.

"Why are you so mad at me?" Bethenny wonders of the judges. "I came here to ice skate, make a fool of myself. Why can't you just say, 'Oh, nice outfit, nice ass, nice anything'?" She also contests that Vince Neil scored better, though he fell down and she didn't.

At least their baby's nanny is on her side. She leaves a voicemail message saying, "You looked beautiful. You danced beautiful, a wonderful job. But you know what I'd like to do? I'd like to..." and a stream of expletives pours forth. However she'd like to get back at the judges for their critique, it's so bad that the entire thing is bleeped out -- and it's a lengthy sound.

by Aimee Deeken, posted Dec 28th 2010 5:20PM

Reality TV -- with all its challenges, critiques, eliminations and votes -- is bound to create friction between judges and contestants. And after looking back at the year that was, it's clear that Simon Cowell wasn't the only snippy judge in the land of reality-TV competitions. We've found several other examples of testy critics, and their victims aren't always quietly stoic, either. Check out our video playlist of berating judges and cocky competitors. Which judge or contestant do you think was the most out-of-line?

'Skating With the Stars' Finale Bombs in the Ratings ... Thank You, America

by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 22nd 2010 4:00PM
Skating With the Stars winnerIf a celebrity-driven reality show crowns a winner and only 3.4 million viewers watch, does the champion's career still benefit? Soap star and recent 'Skating With the Stars' winner Rebecca Budig is about to find out.

According to the Live Feed, the finale of 'Skating With the Stars' was seen by only 3.4 million viewers and grabbed a meager 0.8 in the 18-49 demographic. Ouch. Very low numbers, but not surprising.

Several aspects doomed 'Skating With the Stars' from the beginning. Not that I'm complaining -- the last thing American TV needs is another reality competition that cycles through the same "stars."

'Skating With the Stars' Finale Recap: Season 1 Winner Is Crowned

by Sharon Knolle, posted Dec 22nd 2010 11:00AM
'Skating With the Stars'The first-ever 'Skating With the Stars' champ was named tonight and awarded a pair of golden skates.

Judge Johnny Weir opened up the show with a "fabulous" (to quote host Vernon Kay) caged bird routine choregraphed by fellow judge Laurie Ann Gibson.

Among the returning skaters, third place Jonny Moseley seemed to have entirely lost his mojo, stumbling several times during his routine, but finishing with a smile.

So, who took home the golden skates -- soap star Rebecca Budig or reality queen Bethenny Frankel?

And the 'Skating With the Stars' Winner Is... (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 22nd 2010 1:10AM
And the 'Skating With the Stars' Winner Is... Ever since its premiere, 'Skating With the Stars' (Tue., 8PM ET on ABC) has been like an awkward cousin to the more popular 'Dancing With the Stars.' From the beginning, the show has seemed cursed: there have been pratfalls, a bloody accident, and a star who had to quit the show due to illness.

Last night, the show even had a mini-'DWTS'-style crisis. In a repeat of the Bristol Palin/Brandy fiasco, voters picked the celebrity with the lowest scores to advance to the finals. Reality star Bethenny Frankel beat Olympic skier Jonny Moseley, as the crowd booed the decision.

This meant that Bethenny faced actress Rebecca Budig on tonight's finale. Their scores would determine the winner. And so, the first-ever winner of 'Skating With the Stars' is ...

'Skating With the Stars' Season 1, Episode 5 Recap: Who Went Home in the Semi-Finals?

by Sharon Knolle, posted Dec 21st 2010 9:00AM
The 'Skating With the Stars' competition narrowed from three to just two celebs tonight. The elimination was definitely a surprise: The star who was sent home had been a favorite not just to continue, but to win.

The show started off with a group skate with some tricky lifts and spins which earned Rebecca Budig and her partner a 9, Jonny Moseley an 8 and Bethenny Frankel a 7.

Keep reading to see who got the boot and who's facing off in tomorrow night's finale.

And, for what it's worth, I've finally figured out who slightly spastic host Vernon Kay reminds me of: He's a cross between two of 'Bones'' quirkiest characters -- gawky Lance Sweets and verbose Brit Mr. Vincent Nigel Murray.

A Shocking Result on 'Skating With the Stars': The Crowd Boos As the Finalists Are Revealed (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 21st 2010 7:31AM
A Shocking Result on 'Skating With the Stars': The Crowd Boos, As the Finalists Are Revealed"Are you shocked?" said host Vernon Kay. But it was a rhetorical question. Everyone was shocked. It was the most controversial 'Skating With the Stars' ever. And it brought back memories of the Bristol Palin vs. Brandy debate on 'DWTS' -- as once again, the contestant with the lowest scores made it to the finals.

On the new episode (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC), three stars -- Bethenny Frankel, Jonny Moseley, and Rebecca Budig -- competed for two spots in the finale. Rebecca had the highest total score, meaning the choice was between Bethenny and Jonny. But it didn't seem like much of a choice. Frankel had the lowest previous scores, the lowest total score, and she got the lowest scores for the night in every single event.

But then, the votes came in: "The couple leaving right now is ... Jonny and Brooke." The audience reacted with boos and groans. Jonny bowed his head in resignation, or annoyance. Even Bethenny looked stunned.

Why is a 'Bachelorette' Contestant Joining 'Skating With the Stars'?

by Jean Bentley, posted Dec 15th 2010 6:00PM
Jonathan NovackPlease explain this to us, TV Squad readers, because we're not sure we understand this bit of breaking news: According to E! Online, former 'Bachelorette' contestant Jonathan "The Weatherman" Novack is joining 'Skating With the Stars' on Monday.

Yes, this Monday, which is supposed to be the last judged performance by the three finalists. E! reports that Novack has been training along with the rest of the contestants as an understudy in case anything happened, and he's been called up after Brandon Mychal Smith's departure due to illness on Monday night.

We're confused -- shouldn't Novack have competed last week, when Smith first got sick? Or at least Monday night, since Smith (and the producers) knew ahead of time that there would be an extra spot?

['Skating With the Stars' - 'Season 1, Episode 4']

The rumors were true: Disney star Brandon Mychal Smith left 'Skating With the Stars' after a nasty bout with food poisoning prevented him from performing last week. Tough judge Johnny Weir thought Smith should have skated despite being taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Last night, Smith officially bowed out, saying he was still too weak to continue.

That leaves ski champ Jonny Moseley, soap star Rebecca Budig and reality princess Bethenny Frankel to skate in next week's finale. This week, they were asked to add some dangerous thrills and throws to the mix. For those of you tuning in only for the wipe-outs, sorry, there weren't any.

'Skating With the Stars': Johnny Weir Feuds With Bethenny Frankel: 'I Don't Care to Watch You' (VIDEO)

'Skating With the Stars': Johnny Weir Feuds With Bethenny Frankel: 'I Don't Care to Watch You'Bethenny Frankel is skating on thin ice on 'Skating With the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC). Previously, the former 'Real Housewife' feuded with the judges, and was nearly eliminated several times. Her response to this? Frankel said that she's simply having a good time on the show: "I don't care if they give me zeros."

But on tonight's episode, judge Johnny Weir got into an argument with Bethenny after her routine. The reality starlet gave a stiff performance, skating awkwardly to 'Superstition' by Stevie Wonder. When she was done, Weir said that he didn't want to see her skate again.

"To me it's very clear. You don't care what we think; and I don't care to watch you perform anymore," the judge said.

Are the 'Skating With the Stars' Judges Too Harsh on Bethenny Frankel?

by Ronnie Koenig, posted Dec 13th 2010 7:00PM
Bethenny Frankel, Skating With the StarsAfter watching Jennifer Grey's sublime performance and subsequent win on season 11 of 'Dancing with the Stars,' many people got sucked into watching 'Skating With the Stars,' which is essentially the same show, but on ice.

'Skating With the Stars' definitely has let's-gawk-at-the-traffic-accident appeal. Celebrities stumbling during a dance is one thing, but the image of the lead singer of Motley Crue falling on his butt on cold, hard ice -- that's just reality TV gold. But while we, the viewers, might laugh at these Ice Capade fails, the judges haven't been amused. At all.

For the most part, the judges on 'Dancing with the Stars' take into consideration that the celebrity contestants aren't professionals; they usually look for growth and improvement. But in week two, the 'Skating With the Stars' judges laid the smackdown on reality star Bethenny Frankel, telling her that she was stiff and that they saw her anticipating every lift.

'Skating With the Stars' Judge Johnny Weir: Sick Celebs Should 'Get Out There and Perform'

by Michael Maloney, posted Dec 7th 2010 5:00PM
Johnny Weir, Skating with the StarsDon't let the smile and flamboyant costumes fool you -- Johnny Weir is no pushover. The 'Skating With the Stars' judge feels that skaters -- even of the aspiring/celebrity kind -- need to perform even when they're injured.

Brandon Mychal Smith ('Sonny With a Chance'), who's competing on the ABC reality competition series, was shown on Monday's episode being taken away on a stretcher in an ambulance. Footage of what appeared to be him vomiting was blurred out. On a doctor's advice, he did not perform. He and partner Keauna McLaughlin were judged on a taped rehearsal.

During the judges' critique, Weir wished Smith a speedy recovery, but also chastised him for not showing up to give it the old college try.

"If you're required to perform, you perform," Weir said.
