Melissa McCarthy Was Willing to Get Dirty for 'SNL' Debut (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 3rd 2011 1:00AM
Say what you will about the writing quality or caliber of sketches on 'Saturday Night Live' (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC), but there is no denying that Melissa McCarthy gave as committed a performance as we've ever seen.In some cases, she carried the laughs almost entirely by herself. She tackled physical comedy, like throwing herself down a flight of stairs multiple times, and wasn't afraid to get dirty, like in her explosive performance in the Hidden Valley Ranch sketch.
Her character was so eager to be the best taste-tester, that at one point she exploded an entire bottle of the dressing all over her face and chest, and just kept eating it and going on. To their credit, no one broke character during this hilarious moment, which was easily a highlight of the night.
Steve Martin Crashes Alec Baldwin's Record-Setting 'SNL' Hosting Stint (VIDEO)

When it was realized that Alec Baldwin hosting this season premiere of 'Saturday Night Live' (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC) would give him the all-time hosting record over Steve Martin, we all assumed that Martin would make an appearance. The question was how and when.Well, he showed up right away, during Baldwin's monologue touting his 16th time hosting. Martin was surprisingly gracious, and only wanted to make sure Baldwin wasn't using any performance enhancing drugs.
So they staged a fake drug test, with Martin analyzing Baldwin's urine by swishing it in his mouth -- he only detected Cialis. It was a fun bit, but much tamer than perhaps we would have expected. No jealousy or bitterness from Martin? We did, however, love when he asked surprise guest Seth Rogen if his being there counted as hosting. It doesn't.
Alec Baldwin Breaks 'SNL' Record by Hosting Season 37 Premiere
by Catherine Lawson, posted Aug 3rd 2011 5:00AM
His Schweddy Balls are already the stuff of legend, and now 'Saturday Night Live' frequent flyer Alec Baldwin is set to break the long-running show's hosting record.Baldwin is currently tied with Steve Martin for the 'SNL' record after he hosted the show for the 15th time last year. However, executive producer Lorne Michaels told reporters that Baldwin is now set to break Martin's record by hosting the Season 37 premiere in the fall.
'Mike & Molly' star Melissa McCarthy is lined up to host the second episode of the new season.
Baldwin pulls double duty as the star of Michaels' other NBC show, '30 Rock,' which is, of course, a fictionalized version of 'SNL.'
