SomethingPitchy: What It's Like to Audition for 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by Gabrielle Dunn, posted Aug 6th 2010 2:00PM
American Idol AuditionsNew Jersey has become a breeding ground for reality show hopefuls recently, but this week's 'American Idol' auditions brought out people with talents other than bench pressing and fist pumping.

'Idol' wannabes swarmed the Izod Center in East Rutherford hoping to sing for the producers of the show, different from past years when the auditions held the chance of meeting TV judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and some other musical chairs cast of characters.

Rejected singers told SomethingPitchy that mostly tweens were making it to the next round due in large part to 'Idol' lowering its age minimum to 15 this season. Season 10 just might end up being made up entirely of Bieber-a-likes. (Dear god, no.)

by Gabrielle Dunn, posted Jul 30th 2010 2:30PM
CrystalyzeWe weren't exactly the biggest Lee DeWyze fans during this past season of 'American Idol,' but we'll admit that after we interviewed him last week, we're ready to call him our new BFF.

As you'll see after the jump, the interview turned out to be, as Lee might put it, amazing. (Though, as he told us, he's ready to pick a new favorite word.)

In this special SomethingPitchy interview, watch as the season 9 champ dishes on getting new tattoos, what it's like to be the star of the 'American Idol' tour and what his new album is going to sound like. (Get ready for lots of polka!)

Then, stick around for SP's favorite girl Crystal Bowersox, who told Gaby about her son's cute mispronunciations, her budding romance with TV host Jimmy Kimmel (not!) and her thoughts on the new Janis Joplin biopic. (How was she not cast, Hollywood?!)

Don't forget to follow us on Twitter @somethingpitchy (or @gabydunn and @aolandy) for more 'Idol' coverage.

Then, Gaby sat down with Big Mike to talk about his hilarious tour video series, Late Night Sandwich, Aaron Kelly on Redbull and, yes, Tim Urban's pecs. (We had to sneak that in there somehow.)
