Veronica Mars theme remix - VIDEO
It's something that happens fairly often, and I never understand the reasoning behind it. A show is motoring right along and then a new season starts and someone has decided to redo the theme song. I remember it happening on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and That 70's Show, and I'm sure many others. Now, with season three, Veronica Mars has joined the club. For those scoring at home, season three was also when they made the change for Buffy. The Dandy Warhols song, "We Used To Be Friends", is still the theme song, but now it's been remixed into a stripped down, more ethereal track. It's not bad, but it's not better either. Personally, I prefer the original. Watch the new open after the jump and let us know what you think.

David Bowie is hilarious on Extras -- VIDEO
The celebrity cameos are getting ridiculously funny on Extras, which is airing season two right now in Britain (HBO hasn't announced an air date for season two in the U.S.). Last week, it was Orlando Bloom trying to convince 'Maggie' that he's more famous than Johnny Depp. This week, it's David Bowie in a restaurant, singing a song about Andy and his pug nose face. It's completely over the top and, in true Ricky Gervais style, it's uncomfortably hilarious.Video is after the jump.
Star Trek/Simpsons musical mash-up -- VIDEO
I found this on YouTube several days ago and thought y'all would get a kick out of it. A very talented young man has created a musical masterpiece that combines the Star Trek theme with the Simpsons theme. These kind of mash-ups have been all over the Web since Danger Mouse mixed Jay-Z's Black Album with the Beatles' White Album and called it The Grey Album. I think this one trumps them all, however, because you also get to see some weirdo dancing around his room while the music plays. I think the peeps over at The Simpsons should get in touch with this guy and use his song on one of their episodes. Check it out after the jump:Sneak peek at new season of Grey's Anatomy tonight
Footage from season three of Grey's Anatomy will premiere tonight in the form of a music video. The song is called How to Save a Life by The Fray (I've been hearing it on radio stations all summer long) and it has scenes from this coming season. The music video premieres after Grey's Anatomy tonight at about 10 pm and then a four minute, extended version of the video will accompany the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy on September 21.Music has been huge for the Grey's crowd, with The Fray striking a chord at the end of last season with their song. Good for The Fray for recognizing an opportunity. That season premiere is going to be huge.
The Simpsons: Two Dozen and One Greyhounds
(S06E20) This episode opens with Santa's Little Helper destroying the house. Everyone naturally assumes it's Bart, but as Bart points out, none of the destruction has his usual social commentary. They finally figure out it's the dog, but they can't figure out why it's behaving so crazy, so they take it to a pet store where the clerk performs a canine/human mind meld, a power only he and three other clerks possess. Really, he's just using this as a way to get the family to buy a lot of unnecessary doo-dads for Santa's Little Helper. On the drive home, the dog escapes out the car window and heads for the racetrack where Bart and Homer first found him. It's there that he finds love.
Santa's Little Helper's girlfriend moves into the house, and there's a funny montage in which the two animals go out for a romantic day in Springfield. The butcher shop gives them a steak, and for some reason the video store happens to have steak, too, as does an old woman who carries the meat in her purse. There's the obligatory Lady and the Tramp spaghetti scene, but the two dogs actually fight over the spaghetti, just like real dogs. One of my favorite things about the pets on The Simpsons is how much they behave like real animals.
NBC turns to Pink for football anthem
NBC made the interesting choice of pop star Pink to create the network's anthem for Sunday night football. The song is called Waiting All Day for Sunday Night and it's described as "a re-worked version of Joan Jett's I Hate Myself for Loving You. It premieres before NFL football debuts on NBC on Sept. 10.NBC released a statement explaining why it chose Pink, "because she is a tremendous talent with a crossover appeal that makes her relevant to all segments of our audience." As for Pink? She's just a big fan of football.
Ask TV Squad: What was the theme to Dr. Vegas?
Reader Shannon sent us an e-mail asking:
Please help! I couldn't find anywhere to ask this. Does anyone know the theme song to the short running show Mr. Vegas with Rob Lowe?
Why yes, Shannon, we do. First of all, it was Dr. Vegas, not Mr. Vegas, but no worries, we knew what you meant. The song you're wondering about is a rollicking and infectious ditty by Stereo MCs called "Connected" off the album of the same name. I can't blame you for wondering about it, that song is going to be stuck in my head like taffy for the rest of the day. Here's the music video for the song, courtesy of YouTube. The theme was actually hand-picked by star Rob Lowe, who figured the catchy song would entice people to stay tuned in for the show. His plan worked, and people did stay tuned ... for about five episodes.
Electric Company adverb fun - VIDEO
Tom Lehrer was a satirical songwriter whose songs were a staple on the Dr. Demento program and a heavy influence on Weird Al Yankovic. You might not know the name, but you may have heard some of his tunes, such as "The Masochism Tango," "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park," and "The Elements." Lehrer also wrote a few tunes for The Electric Company, and you can watch one of them, a little ditty dedicated to the suffix "ly" after the jump. Lehrer himself sings the song, and if you ever find yourself encountering a tiger or winning an eating contest, this song can be very helpful. Enjoy it joyfully:

Adam misses TV
No, not me, this is a different Adam. Jeff Nemon sent us this link to a song by comedian Adam Ray called "I Miss TV." The song is pretty amusing, and also pretty NSFW. If you grew up with shows like Growing Pains, The Wonder Years, and Muppet Babies, it's a nice little trip down memory lane. The song also expresses a sentiment I've felt for a very long time, which is that "reality television" is possibly the worst thing to ever happen to the medium. Of course, it's funnier when Adam sings about it, so you should go check it out. If the song doesn't automatically start playing, use the pulldown menu at the top of the screen. As I said, the song is NSFW, and the same probably goes for the rest of the site.Milonakis' phat rhymes
The Andy Milonakis Show is currently in its second season on MTV2, but
a lot of us knew about Andy before he was on television, when he used to create little skits on his Web cam and ad
lib his own rap songs over on the Angry Naked Pat site. When I spoke to Andy a
few years ago he said he was interested in making an album of comedy rap songs, and it looks
like the first song has been "leaked" (but not really) and you can hear it by clicking here. It's called "Me No Like Hollywood
Douche Bags," and Andy uses the song to state with great clarity his dislike of douche bags from
Hollywood. I assume douche bags from Sacramento are okay, though. The song is mildly amusing
until he seems to run out of ideas and just starts saying "suck my ***k" a lot. I think this could be
turned into a funny video, but as an audio file only it's a bit of a let down, even if I do agree with the
sentiment. Nicole picks a Dandelion
"I thought he was a flower, but I found out he's a weed."
Damn girl, that's deep. Wait, no it isn't. That's a line from Nicole Richie's new single, "Dandelion" yet another attempt by someone who isn't famous for any reason to break into the music biz. Hell, Paris and K-Fed did it, so why shouldn't Nicole get her chance to sing through her nose to pre-recorded audio tracks? Actually, the production values on the song are pretty good, and like most pop songs there's enough filtering and vocal modulation to make it sound decent, or at the very least it blends nicely into the ignorable white noise that is mainstream pop music.
Gilligan's stairway to heaven
I found this song via my Web chum Brad. Mixing Led Zeppelin's
Stairway to Heaven with the theme to Gilligan's Island makes the show seem EPIC, you know? Now that
I've heard this new (improved?) version of the theme I no longer think of it as a quirky show about a group of zany
castaways. Now I think of it as an epic struggle raging in one man's soul as he battles demons on an island unstuck
from the fabric of space and time. Also, it's too bad they couldn't stretch the theme to match Stairway's
eight minute-plus runtime. That would give you plenty of time to grab a snack before the show started.
David Cross and the Pornographers
If
you haven't seen the video for The New Pornographers' song "Use It," then you're probably in the majority.
I'm not sure why bands even make videos anymore, since they're rarely seen by a mass audience, and those that do see
them probably catch them at like 3 a.m. on MTV2. At any rate, I'm linking to the video because it features none other than
Arrested Development's own David Cross, playing what appears to be a very pivotal role. Also featured in
the video is some Candian guy I've never heard of named Nardwuar the Human Serviette. The album came out
in August and I don't think the video is much newer than that, but I figure your chances of catching it on television
are slim. That's why I'm here, to look out for you.
