Demi Lovato Won't Return to 'Sonny With a Chance'

by Jean Bentley, posted Apr 19th 2011 4:45PM
Demi Lovato'Sonny With a Chance' is officially not getting its Sonny back.

Demi Lovato
told People today that following her stint in rehab for "physical and emotional issues," she won't return to the hit Disney show about a kids' sketch comedy series.

"I don't think going back to 'Sonny' would be healthy for my recovery," Lovato told People. "Being in front of a camera would make me nervous."

Instead, the 18-year-old will pursue her already successful music career. Lovato has released two albums with Hollywood Records.

"It made sense for me to go ahead and leave the show to focus on my music," Lovato said. "It's kind of sad for me that a chapter of my life has ended but there couldn't be a better time for me to move on."

Family TV Round-Up: 'Sonny With a Chance' Sans Demi Lovato, Thanksgiving Specials and More

by Rich Keller, posted Nov 19th 2010 3:05PM
'Sonny With a Chance' may go 'So Random!' without star Demi Lovato.Welcome to the Family TV Round-Up, a recap of all kid-friendly programming across the television universe. We sum up all of the news related to children's programming, as well as profile the people and shows that your kids, tweens and teens are talking about.

We start off with the dilemma facing the producers of Disney Channel's 'Sonny With a Chance.' With star Demi Lovato on indefinite hiatus due to personal reasons, the idea of focusing the newest season on the other characters of the show doesn't seem right.

Therefore, instead of the behind-the-scenes look at the fictional teen sketch show 'So Random!,' the producers will re-center the series on the sketch/music-variety show itself.

'30 Rock' and 'Real Housewives' Collide, Lizzy Caplan to Guest on 'Mr. Sunshine' and More

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 15th 2010 11:45AM
Tina FeyFirst, Tina Fey and '30 Rock' gave us their take on 'Survivor' with 'MILF Island.' Now, they're taking on the hottest reality franchise on cable right now: 'The Real Housewives.'

According to TV Guide, Angie Jordan (Sherri Shepherd) gets cast in a 'Real Housewives'-esque series that puts cameras on Tracy (Tracy Morgan) 24/7. What's this do to him? "Having the cameras around forces Tracy to act on better behavior,"'30 Rock' executive producer Robert Carlock told TV Guide.

Look for a potential appearance from Bravo's Andy Cohen. "Tina certainly enjoys him and we have joked about having him on," Carlock said. "Maybe we will."

In other TV news ...

It's official, NBC has greenlit its 'Survivor'-meets-'The Bachelor' dating show. 'Love in the Wild' will pair up 20 men and women and force them to compete in emotional and physical challenges. At the end of day, some couples will receive romantic treats and then decide if they want to continue with the partner or switch to a new one. Look for this gem next summer. [Hollywood Reporter]

'Party Down' star Lizzy Caplan will guest star on Matthew Perry's 'Mr. Sunshine.' Look for the effortlessly funny Caplan to have a fling with Perry's character, Ben, and then show up as his boss' new assistant. [Deadline Hollywood]

Disney is creating a plan for 'Sonny With a Chance' in case they must film without Demi Lovato. The network will focus 'Sonny' on the fictional show 'So Random!' when shooting begins in January. [E! Online]

Demi Lovato on 'Camp Rock 2,' Touring with the Jonas Brothers, 'Grey's' & More (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jun 10th 2010 6:00PM
Demi LovatoCan we all please just agree that Demi Lovato is adorable? And possibly taking over the universe? I sat down with the Disney starlet to talk about her latest projects, and we almost couldn't make time for everything she's doing.

The biggest thing coming up is 'Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,' the Disney Channel sequel to her hit movie with three guys you might've heard of, the Jonases. Even though the movie won't premiere for a few months, tweens are already screaming for details -- Demi tells me that her character Mitchie is more confident and a leader this time around. She also spills that Mitchie's relationship with Shane (Joe Jonas, her real-life ex) continues to be crazy.

Then she dishes about her summer tour with the Jonas Brothers, 'Sonny With a Chance,' her awesome episode of 'Grey's Anatomy,' giving back and her "secret passion."

JONAS in iCarly witness relocation while Hannah and Sonny get renewals

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 2nd 2009 6:07PM
Hannah MontanaLooks like the Disney Channel underestimated the power of Nickelodeon's iCarly. Their attempts to squash the possible threat to their Hannah Montana empire were squashed, however, when a special iCarly smashed the second episode of JONAS, the new star vehicle for the Jonas Brothers. So to make themselves feel better, and despite what Miley Cyrus may have been saying, the show will go on. Disney has picked up Hannah Montana for a fourth season, as well as Demi Lovato's Sonny With a Chance for a second.

As for JONAS, it's already been yanked from Saturdays where, despite an impressive debut, it got slammed in its second outing by iCarly. So now, it's joining the Disney Sunday lineup, where it can nestle snugly behind Hannah Montana and Sonny With a Chance. This does create a powerhouse Sunday night for the network, while protecting the two newer shows with the power of Miley Cyrus.
