Magic Johnson Sells "Black Power Cookies" at His Version of Starbucks (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 30th 2010 3:10AM
Earvin "Magic" Johnson is a retired NBA player, and one of the greatest point guards of all time. But since leaving the world of basketball, he's become quite the entrepreneur. Magic has his own chain of businesses and is worth around $700 million. On 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 11PM ET on CBS), Johnson discussed one of his latest enterprises -- opening up an "urban" version of a Starbucks coffeehouse.Apparently, until Magic came around, no one thought that a Starbucks would work in the inner city. In fact, he said that opening an urban Starbucks was initially a "tough sell." " ... [People thought] we didn't wanna pay three dollars for a cup of coffee," he told host George Lopez.
But that wasn't the problem. The problem was the uniquely "white bread" food that was sold at the Starbucks chain. "We [don't quite] know what 'scones' are," Magic said. So Johnson came up with a few unique wrinkles all his own -- including, yes, a "Black Power" cookie.
What You Missed Last Night: 'Lost' Secrets, Dunking Ninjas, Horse Singers & Starbucks
by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 31st 2010 4:04PM
Jimmy Kimmel does one of the best late night monologues. Where Letterman just has a handful of jokes to get him through to the rest of the show and Leno bombards us with 37,000 jokes (and both are fine), Kimmel does it differently. His monologue is almost like a blog, filled with clips from other TV shows, sketches, YouTube finds, etc. Last night's was a good example, as Kimmel covered everything from last night's episode of 'Lost' to guns being allowed at Starbucks to Shannen Doherty's refusal to do his show last night after getting booted off 'Dancing with the Stars.'

Flipping Out: Sell Out (season premiere)
by Allison Waldman, posted Jun 18th 2008 12:03PM
(S02E01) I watched the first season of Flipping Out on Bravo last summer based on a teaser I saw during Top Chef 3. The show is about a real estate "flipper" who buys properties, fixes them up and then resells them for a profit. You might say, "Yawn, that's just like a bunch of other shows on TLC, Discovery, et al." Well, yes, that's true. But Flipping Out isn't really about the flipping, it's about the flipper -- Jeff Lewis. This guy Lewis is not normal. I mean it, he's not. He says he's not. He's obsessive compulsive and it comes out in everything he does. It makes him a better flipper, because of his attention to detail, but it also makes him really hard to take if you're his employee, partner or contractor. But, boy, is it fun to watch Jeff Lewis's life! That's what Flipping Out is really all about and it's back.

American Idol: The Auditions Begin!
by Lacy Hall, posted Jan 17th 2006 11:28PM
It's about freaking time! Say what you want about the quality of television, but the American
Idol auditions are the greatest two weeks known to man. I sincerely think that this is what Ben Franklin had
in mind when he invented electricity. And Chicago was given the honor of being this season's first city to be
ripped to shreds by Simon. What surprises me about Chicago isn't its lack of talent (yes, I know they air the worst
auditions), but that I spotted at least two Mike Ditka impersonators. Mike Ditka? It's been 20 years since the Bears
won the Super Bowl. It's time to let 1985 go, Chicago.
